College Basketball Random Chatter 2013-2014 Season

LOL... Tweets. Tweets are garbage as far as reliable news. Just because Smart claims a racial slur was used doesn't make it so. I would rather trust video... both the original video and this newer one.

As I pointed out in my first post, that if a racial slur was used, there would have been a reaction from someone most likely. There was a non-white woman behind him who did not react negatively. Smart's own teammate was right there and didn't seem phased. It seems like Smart just let his frustration boil over again (chair incident).

Lol what!? Not answering with "I didn't use a racial slur" when asked if he used a racial slur is drawing more attention to the situation. So this guy is a great guy and just answered it like that so he doesn't draw any more unnecessary attention to the story? Lmao ok.

The Johnnies lead Creighton at the half 40 to 36 in Madison Square Garden. This one has the potential to provide a great finish. Doug McDermott with 14. He's gotta love playing in the Mecca.

Video confirms he said "you piece of crap."

Now, I'll forgive a guy for losing his cool. It happens. Especially when your struggling team just committed a turnover that sealed another loss.

HOWEVER, claiming a racial slur was used and it not being the case, is the much worse offense. By lying about why he reacted, that says a lot more about a guy's character than him shoving someone in the heat of the moment.

If he didn't use a racial slur, why wouldn't he simply respond with "I didn't use a racial slur."?
    From his statement today:

"I would like to take this opportunity to offer my sincere apologies to Marcus Smart, Oklahoma State, Tubby Smith*and the Texas Tech Men's Basketball program. My actions last night were inappropriate and do not reflect myself or Texas Tech - a university I love dearly. I regret calling Mr. Smart a 'piece of crap' but I want to make it known that I did not use a racial slur of any kind. Additionally, I would like to offer my apologies to Texas Tech fans that have been embarrassed by the attention this incident has created."

Also, the only thing I saw after the game was where Gottlieb was tweeting the convo his friend was having with Orr and he said he didn't use the N word there. Not sure if there was something else you saw that I didn't.

The guy isn't a saint obviously, but it doesn't seem like he used a racial slur anywhere unless something more comes out. Definitely not a good look for him though regardless of what he said. I can't imagine calling a player from another school a piece of crap like that unless it is a douche Michigan player like Zak Novak, lol.

That video doesn't come close to confirming that "piece of crap" was all that was said. Not sure how you can watch that and reach that conclusion. There is far too much background noise mudding the audio. The man was within a foot of Smart at the time of the incident, and he easily could have said something much worse under his breath.

Again, no one not there at the time knows for sure.

Piece of shit (not) crap you redneck fuck was said and possibly shit was misinterpreted as ****** on the heat of action.

Thanks. When did that come out?

I tend to side with this position. As I said before, I believe Smart either heard or thought he heard something racially derogatory. With the crowd noise, the emotion of a game slipping away, and the confrontation from a fan all escalating the moment, it's easy to see how Smart temporarily lost his cool in that situation.

About 2 hours ago when Marcus Smarts suspension was announced. Got it from that article.

St. John's hanging tough in MSG, up by three on Creighton late in the second half. The Red Storm had an 18-point lead on the Bluejays in Omaha earlier this season, before relinquishing the lead entirely and ultimately losing.

There's no reason with the talent they have for the Johnnies to be sitting with almost 10 losses already (14-9) and a losing record in the Big East (4-6). That is on Lavin. It was his problem at UCLA also. Great recruiter, average in-game coach.

The true sad story here is a grown man being known as a super fan.
  • reclegend22
Big win for St. John's over #12 Creighton. It's a signature win that the Johnnies desperately needed. At 15-9 and 5-6 in the Big East, with a little run here down the stretch to get to above .500 in league play, the Red Storm can play themselves into the Big Dance.

Whether they do that or not is a much different story.

Thread. I'm not well-versed in lip reading to know what the guy said or didn't say....but there's a black woman behind him, you'd think she'd speak up if he made a racial remark.

Couldn't agree more. Smart was obviously stupid for doing what he did. But when you have a full grown man yelling in a players face as he falls into the stands, I think its sad and pitiful.

Is it OK if he was only half grown?

Ok, maybe not. But I'd forgive a kid pretty quick.

With Providence trailing 15, Bryce Cotton scored 19 points in the final 5 minutes of the first half to give the Friars a 4-point lead over Georgetown at the break. It was an impressive display.

Iowa State currently getting manhandled at West Virginia. Bob Huggins with a decent crew this year after his program had gone on sort of a brief hiatus into obscurity.
  • SportsAndLady
    WVU back on the bubble?

15-10, but 8 of those 10 losses to RPI top 50 teams.

Can't believe they're beating Iowa St by 30, lol.

The Mountaineers have some work still cut out for them, and will probably need a win or two in the conference tournament, but their performance tonight demonstrates just how competitive the Big XII has been top to bottom this year. Certainly the best conference around.
  • se-alum
How good would Dayton be this year if Staten had stayed?
  • Mulva
WVU will definitely have a chance to play their way in. 5 of their last 6 are @ Texas, ISU, and Oklahoma, and home for Kansas and Baylor.

    ISU was rolling to

    Good game here....feels like OT
  • Ironman92

Kansas by a TD in OT
