BCS National Championship: #2 Alabama def. #1 Notre Dame, 42-14

  • lhslep134
I think Notre Dame is going to win. I'm just not sold on the SEC this year. So Alabama barely beat a team that got blown out by South Carolina, who sucks. They have a good win over Florida, whose offense is mediocre at best. Notre Dame's ability to stop the run will keep them in this game. AJ McCarron isn't that good. He played awful today, and was lucky that Georgia couldn't stop the run, because he wasn't beating them by himself. He'll have to do that against ND.

I like Notre Dame in this match up. The SEC is overated.

All things being cyclical, it does appear that they've reached the peak and are beginning to descend the mountain a little.

The SEC is down from past years but still EASILY the best. And South Carolina sucks? Lol.

Also I'd like the SEC is overrated people to name some teams that they think are good. Can't wait!!
  • believer
The SEC has been nothing short of phenomenal the past decade taking 7 of the last 9 national championships. Chances are very good that the SEC will take 8 of the last 10 national championships.

It does appear that the SEC is not as strong this season as it has been. But until the one or more of the "other" BCS conferences step up to dethrone the SEC, it's just intellectually dishonest and absurd to claim "the SEC is overrated."

    Alabama 35
    Notre Dame 17

Compared to their inflated ranking they suck. Compared to the rest of college football this year, they're still a pretty good team, because the whole sport is down this year. They have a revolving quarterback situation which they "finally" resolved, a stud RB out for the year, and their "vaunted" defense gave up 44 points to a mediocre Florida offense.

Sorry I don't buy into the SEC brainwashing that you have been. "EASILY the best?" No.

Lol how about you list YOUR top 10. Hopefully it isn't halfway filled with overrated SEC schools.

Also lol at the SEC brainwashing. Take a look at who's EASILY been the best conference over the last like 7 years. Yea claiming that same conference is still best is clearly me being brainwashed.

Notre Dame's rush defense isn't THAT great. I think Bama will just alternate backs and run all over them.

    ND: 6
    Bama: 41

lhslep says the same thing every year about the SEC. ANd we hear every year that this is a down year for the SEC. This is probably the best year for the sec ever, considering they have 6 top ten teams. And with the top recruiting and top coaching still going on in the SEC, it wont change. The cyclical word has been used since 2007. Its not going to change. And the B10 will remain horrible besides OSU.

I highly doubt Ohio st fans care how their conference does. I can bet you he next 5 years Ohio st and notre dame will be top 3-4 every year.

Possibly, by playing the little sisters of the poor. Wow, ND fans sure get cocky after having one good season. I will retire from this site if OSU and ND place top 4 for 5 years straight.

    Bama 34
    ND 13

ND is one of the least impressive teams to make it to the title game. However, this Bama team isn't an elite team live we've seen in years past. Bama thrives when they can make a team more one dimensional than they'd like to be. I don't think ND's passing game is good enough to keep them somewhat honest. I think ND can slow Bama's rushing attack better than anybody else, but I still expect them to get near 2 bills if not more. I think Bama has the tools and experience to be balanced. Saban will have his team ready and focused; as will Kelly. I just think Bama is 3 td's better than ND.

Why don't you retire from here right now, and if they don't place top 4 for 5 straight years, then you can return...deal?

Nah, we need one knowledgeable person on here. Besides, this site would be boring if it was all OSU, UM, and ND fans. You need a mixture/variety.

Lets just throw some stats out the window....

Florida's Total Yards per game is 338.

Against South Carolina? 183. The average gain per play was 2.8.

Florida scored 6 TD's and on 4 of those drives they started in SC territory(started at the 2, 1, 44, and 11)

South Carolina's offense had 4 Turnovers.....Yup lets blame that South Carolina defense!

This year is not the past 6. This year is this year. They are not clearly the best this year. That is what I'm saying.

If they had 10 teams in the top 10 you still wouldnt think they are clearly the best. Why dont you give us a conference that matches up to the SEC by putting the teams side by side from each conference. Lets see how well you do.

The SEC is absolutely clearly better than any other conference.

ACC and Big East = LOL.
Who is the #2 team in the Big 10? Michigan? Wisconsin? Nebraska (apparently not.)? I would take 6 SEC teams over any of them.
The Big 12? 8 out of 10 teams lost at least 4 CONFERENCE games, not just overall.

Or are you saying UCLA and Oregon State make the Pac-12 legitimately a contender to be better than the SEC? No matter what you bring up, the answer is LOL.

The SEC is clearly still the best conference in the country, no matter how much you want to hate against it. It doesn't necessarily mean Alabama is the best team (even though they are), but the SEC is clearly better than the rest from top to bottom.

    To add to your point.

22 teams with 10 or more wins...6 in the SEC. No other conference had more than 2.

60% of the final top 10 in the BCS were from the SEC.

The top of 8 in the SEC are dominant over the top 8 in any other league. With that said, I'll defend that by saying the SEC also is a conference in major seperation mode. While they had 6 teams in the BCS top 10, they also had two teams go 0-8 in the conference, another went 1-7 (their only win over an 0-8 team), 2 others went 2-6 (Missouri beat UK and UT, combined 1-15; Arkansas beat UK and Auburn, combined 0-16)

Four schools also fired their coach and the fifth, Gary Pinkel, quit.
