Natl Championship Team Will Never Really Know Will They?
-
TiernanCongrats to ND for being only one of two undefeated teams in the country after week 13. If somehow the Irish can win the NC Game in Jan and remain undefeated they legitimately can claim the title but even they will have that tug of doubt in their minds could they have beaten Ohio State?
Any other team that defeats ND in the NC Game will always question themselves as true champions because they simply don't deserve it. We will really never actually know who was the best CFB team of 2012 will we? -
HitsRusI expect huge ratings for ND in the championship game.....but they might have been off the charts if they were matched up with Ohio State. The NCAA really screwed the pooch hammering OSU with a bowl ban from that standpoint....on the other hand , they might have done the BCS a favor, avoiding the controversy of having to choose between an undefeated OSU team, and a 1 loss SEC team.
We'll never know -

sjmvsfscs08Well I think Notre Dame is considerably better than Ohio State, and considerably worse than Alabama, so really all I have to say is that it only makes me hate Terelle Pryor even more to think that he, at the end of the day, could end up costing Notre Dame a national championship.

ThePatriotDoes it bother the '08 Giants that they were 1-1 against the Patriots and pretty much everyone and their mom believes the Patriots win a rubber match? I doubt it.
Does it bother whoever won the NC the year Auburn was unbeaten and left out? Probably not.
Will bother Notre Dame that they will never know how theyd have fared against an unbeaten OSU? Definately not. The guys from my office and I could have fielded a team and gone undefeated playing OSU's sched, lol. Pitiful.
I know one thing, the unknown will bother OSU more than whoever wins the title. -

TiernanThe unknown will bother OSU for sure but whoever the NC champ is will never really really know whether they were the best team or not and that is the deepest cut of all.

krambmanI honestly don't think players or coaches on either team will ever think about it. I think the only people who will ever ask the "what if" question are OSU fans. Fans of whatever school wins it all will truely belueve that they would have handled OSU had they been their opponent.

If I were an ND and won the title, I would never give one thought to whether a team with a bowl ban might have beat us, if they even played in the title game. -

You can say that about any year where there was an undefeated team at the end of the season. The 2006 Boise State team comes to mind. -
Mooney44CardsI doubt the 2006 Florida Gators toss and turn at night wondering if they're really the champions since they didn't play undefeated Boise State.
2004 USC dodged TWO undefeated teams: Auburn and Utah
It happens all the time. Some Ohio State fans will try to make a claim of what would have happened, others will accept a surprising undefeated season. Life goes on. -

I wasn't really responding to you, sorry. Your post wasn't even there when I started mine. I think we're arguing the same point.dlazz;1329412 wrote:Me too, but I was just poking holes in his narrow-minded thinking. -
TiernanOh they will definitely be thinking about it because OSU fans will not let them forget it. The Buckeyes were a young untested team when the season began and they posted some ugly wins as they learned to play together. The Defense particularly is vastly improved and Carlos Hyde has emerged as a legit running force. They allowed scUM to hang around by committing some dumb penalties but that can be cleaned up. Right now this team can play with anybody in the country and whoever wins the NC will never know if they could have beaten OSU and it will stick in their craw for a long time.

RotinajLol nobody on the team who wins will give it any thought. Sorry for ruining your ridiculous fantasy of Bama players needing to seek professional help because they won the chip and OSU was also undefeated.
-
Mooney44CardsFor the record, I don't think that Ohio State would necessarily be a lock for the BCSNCG if they were bowl eligible. The computers pretty much hate them. Another win over Nebraska in the B10CG would help, but I don't think enough to vault them into the top two.
-
HitsRusI have to agree with the thinking that whoever wins the NC won't think twice about OSU. About the only way anybody would even talk about it other than OSU fans would be if OSU ends up #1 in the AP Poll. I don't think that is at all probable.

Yeah because of the anti OSU media backlash that existsHitsRus;1329455 wrote:...would be if OSU ends up #1 in the AP Poll. I don't think that is at all probable. -

How many times in the past, idk, ten years has OSU been the preseason #1 and dubbed the best team in cfb in newspapers and magazines prior to the season? I remember a few times. How many of those times were they actually the top team? Zero.Tiernan;1329468 wrote:Yeah because of the anti OSU media backlash that exists
Thus, if a bias exists, that may be part of it. The media was tired of looking foolish. -
TiernanSean McDonough openly questioning whether AP voters should vote for OSU on Natl TV while the words to Hail to The Victors is displayed on the screen wasn't enuff proof for you there is an OSU media predjudice out there? My god pull your head out of the sand Patriot.

Could look it that both ways. Why is ruining Michigan's moment by talking about OSU while Hail to the Victors is playing? Media must love OSU!Tiernan;1329488 wrote:Sean McDonough openly questioning whether AP voters should vote for OSU on Natl TV while the words to Hail to The Victors is displayed on the screen wasn't enuff proof for you there is an OSU media predjudice out there? Tiernanuh...sorry to burst your bubble Webbie but McDonough's plea to shut OSU out of being AP No. 1 wasn't exactly at the same time the words to "Hail" was being played. I was being metaphorical. I wish Speilman had grabbed the little Irish lover and gave his bald head a good hard dutch rub.
