Thank God thats over. Good win for KU though. Loss mightve dropped them to the 3 seed line.

I showered and came back with a KU timeout down 1. Only saw the Tharpe GW and the OKST miss.

This is the best part of tonights game...

Yeah, it was too obvious that would be up all over the internet within minutes. But I love the "Cant Touch This" addition.

That's a big win for ISU over Baylor. The Bears, despite having top 10 talent, are going to go down as one of the biggest disappointments of the year unless they right the ship, fast.

UNLV with a huge win over Colorado State. Quietly, they are moving up in the standings. New Mexico still has Colorado State, San Diego State and at Air Force.

Gonzaga absolutely murdered Santa Clara. The Broncos aren't a bad squad either, they played the Zags tough 6 weeks ago. 82-45 in Spokane. Next Thursday we do get Gonzaga at BYU, but I'm not sure anyone can stop the Zags from going 19-0 and their first ever #1 seed. This might be the year it's actually deserving.

I still think there is no way Gonzaga will get a one seed based on the horrific nature of the West Coast Conference. The second best team, Saint Mary's, just isn't that good. They are propelled almost entirely by one man.

The Zags have a gaudy record, but I just don't see them getting more than a two seed. I think the Zags had a better team in 2003-04 with Blake Stepp, Rony Turiaf, Corey Violette and Adam Morrison. Tony Skinner was also a great player, although young at that point. They finished No. 3 in the polls that year, and got a two seed. Of course, they then lost to Nevada in the second round.

Perhaps since Gonzaga has been around for so long now and has a stronger national reputation at this point than it did then, they will finally be given the respect of a one seed. But I don't think wins over Oklahoma, Baylor and Oklahoma State are enough to warrant it on their own merit. If Gonzaga played in the Pac 12, I think it would have at least five losses at this point.

I agree with everything Rec says except I think the ZAGS will get a #1 seed if they stay undefeated. They will get the #1 seed by default. The teams that could and probably should supplant the Zags will lose at least one more game.

Rec forgot to mention that the ZAGS also defeated K-State by a score of 68-52.

The Zags get a #1 if they win out. Like Prescott said. Their 2 losses, Butler and Illinois aren't bad at all. The Butler loss was almost a fluke. They could finish 31-2 and in a season where nobody else is going to have less than 5 losses, they are gonna get a #1.

On a subconscious level, I think you may be right. Carolina has finished first in the ACC Regular Season standings 29 times to Duke's 19, while Duke holds a 19-17 advantage in ACC Tournament championships. It's probably in our nature to favor those instances in which our respective team has an advantage.

I also appreciate the history of the conference, and I actually like the fact that the ACCT champion is recognized as THE champion for that season. However, I do still think that the team that has proven itself to be the "top" team in the conference over an 18-game schedule deserves some recognition. As far as I know, that does happen. We really don't disagree on anything other than the fact that the regular season means more than "nothing". To each his own.
Good post. I think you nailed it in that first paragraph. As for the second paragraph, I think I would have agreed with that viewpoint in the 1990s, when the ACC regular-season was still played as a true round-robin of 16 games with nine teams. With the random, unbalanced schedule in the ACC today, wherein certain years some teams have considerably easier paths to success by not having to play an upper-tier team (or two) on the road, whereas other teams might have to play those upper-tier teams on the road or both home and away, the regular-season has just lost some of the legitimacy that it once had. That's another reason why I prefer to crown the champion in the tournament.

If you really are that good and believe you can win the national tournament, then handle your business on a neutral floor against the teams in your own conference and prove it.

Gonzaga will and should get a #1 imo. Overall, the conference isnt hard at all. But OOC they did more than Miami who is going to get a 1. Miami -- injuries I know -- have some bad losses. The ACC is bad this year, so their only wins at this point are Duke and NCST. I expect them to lose to Duke second time around. There is nothing about the Pac-12 and Gonazaga that would make me think they finish 5th...

While the ACC is not at its peak level compared to glory years, it isn't even comparable to the WCC. Gonzaga would have a difficult time navigating the treacherous beast that is road play in the ACC.

They might get it, but do they actually deserve it? That was my contention, and I don't believe so. They will get beaten before or at the Sweet 16.

That is simply not a team that is heading to the Final Four. Quite frankly, I don't believe in Mark Few in a do or die situation.

2 wins against Carolina, the 24th ranked RPI team, are nothing.

Even throwing in UNC, Gonzaga has better wins overall coupled with no bad losses, imo.

The Zags have 3 wins against the top 50 RPI. Miami has 7.

Yes they have 2 bad losses, but they were not at full strength. Which is definitely a factor to take into consideration.

The question will be who deserves it more than the Zags.We can debate this when the time comes, but right now I think the Zags deserve a #1 seed. That being said, I would love to see the Zags as a #1 seed in the West(They usually get sent away ) and OSU as a #5 or #6 seed in the West.
