College Basketball Random Chatter 2012-2013 Season

There has been lots of NPOTY discussion in this thread, so I thought adding Mason Plumlee to that conversation here after last night's dominating performance against one of the more premier front lines in college basketball was warranted.Prescott;1385099 wrote:If duke has it's own thread, why are there duke postings on this thread? More than a couple. But not the whole student section.
I will say, it sound like more students heard the few on the 1st FT and joined for the 2nd. First definitely sounds like "bedtime", but during the second FT it sounds a lot more like "grandma" -

Bottom line. There was no mass "How's your grandma cheer." Just because some lazy reporter "tweeted" it as fact, doesn't make it so. Go back and listen to any audio or youtube clip that supposedly documents the cheer. The only thing I hear is "Past your bedtime." If you hear something different, then you are possibly a rabbit.
I listened. Over and over, I hear grandma. I'm not the only one.
But like I said, you wouldn't admit Duke did anything wrong even if it were plain as day. -

Nope. Didn't happen. -

Get out of here with that. I criticize Duke, Coach K and the program's players all the time. That's bullshit.wildcats20;1385256 wrote:I listened. Over and over, I hear grandma. I'm not the only one.

Look in the mirror. Your hatred of Duke is blinding. -

reclegend22As I said earlier, even if there were one or a few rogue students who are idiots, then so what? That's the case at any university. I've heard far worse than that in the world of sports. Kevin Garnett called Charlie Villaneuva a cancer patient, and it was caught on audio.
The Cameron Crazies did not, however, chant that cheer en mass. It just didn't happen. As Laley admitted in his post.
We're not even 100% sure what was said. Let's be real here, Laley is not a human sound expert. With all due respect, he has no idea how many kids or if any at all really did repeat those exact words. Wildcats' broad generalizations, however, would have you believe that the Duke bench also took up the chant. Stupidity.Laley23 wrote:More than a couple. But not the whole student section. -

No. I said Duke fans.
Never said the whole section. Never said the bench. -

Perhaps one post would have been sufficient.reclegend22;1385244 wrote:There has been lots of NPOTY discussion in this thread, so I thought adding Mason Plumlee to that conversation here after last night's dominating performance against one of the more premier front lines in college basketball was warranted. -

GOONx19From a Duke fan at the game:
I’m honestly ashamed to say I’m a duke student. I’m post grad, and I was stunned to hear this Hurtful and wildly inappropriate chant. I was @ the game, I heard the chant. Amazing what will be spun as being “appropriate” after they royally screw up. I was at the game, section 19, row 3, and the crowd was not only chanting, but also spreading the word, to chant ‘how’s your grandmother’. Not 1, 2 ,3, but 4 separate people specifically told me his grandmother died as the reason for the chant.
Classless students who are “mightier than thou” have ruined any good the CC wee did. -

reclegend22Luckily, my favorite team isn't the Cameron Crazies. To be completely honest, I have never actually hyped them. I think they have been overrated for years. And I certainly do not care what any of them say in the stands.
As for actual basketball, going to be a good one today in Madison I have a feeling. I wish this were the late game tonight. -

You cared enough that you sat here and defended them. So obviously you care what they say/do -
reclegend22But to reply to wildcats' insistent whining about Duke, Raleigh sports radio broadcaster Joe Ovies has emphatically stated that nobody who was actually on press row during the Duke-N.C. State game heard the cheer.
From his Twitter: "Folks on press row didn't hear it. They would have noticed."

I will take a journalist's word who was actually there over somebody who thinks they have really good ears "analyzing" a YouTube video. -
Azubuike24Anyone see good bets today? Opinions?
Some important games for bubble hopes.
Temple at Dayton
North Carolina at Miami
Mississippi at Missouri
Iowa State at Kansas State
Some big conference race games too.
Southern Miss at Memphis
VCU at Charlotte
New Mexico at UNLV -
Azubuike24Also, lets STFU in this thread about the Duke chants. Who cares what side of it you're on...

Azubuike24Early game parlay...
Arkansas -3 at Vanderbilt
Butler -2.5 at George Washington
DetroitU -1 at Green Bay
Mississippi +6 at Missouri
I have a strong feeling about Michigan -3 at Wisconsin. Missed the deadline on it though. -

For somebody who inserted themselves into this whole Duke conversation, I find this funny.vball10set;1385688 wrote:Thank you.
I actually agree that this is a stupid as fuck topic. But, since people here were stating completely unconfirmed claims based on utter hearsay as fact, I decided to intervene. -

The only games today that really intrigued me were taking Wisconsin over Michigan (either moneyline or spread) and Carolina to cover in Coral Gables. Although, I wouldn't ever bet on North Carolina to win anything. For what it is worth, it is currently -7 Miami.Azubuike24;1385676 wrote:Anyone see good bets today? Opinions?

Azubuike24I like Kentucky -16 vs Auburn today. For the first time in a month, I think they are undervalued in the spread. They beat Auburn badly two weeks ago on the road.
Interestingly enough, UK is generally ranked around 30-35, but they are top 25 in the country in PPG, points allowed, rebounding, lead the nation in blocked shots and have the nation's leading shot blocker. About 40% of the teams ahead of them in those rankings are outliers and not NCAA Tournament teams.
While it would be a long shot for them to win the national title, from past statistical trends of previous champs, they are in the group of teams who could do it, along with about 15 others. Not a bad value bet as their odds of winning it all have fallen to as low as 30:1... -

If they can get hot at the end of the year it's not a bad choice. They are definitely talented.
