College Basketball Random Chatter 2012-2013 Season

I don't think Rupp is special at all, except for rivalry games and top ten opponents. There are too many alumni ticket holders that don't stand up or get loud. When it's a good matchup, though, it's awesome. The UNC game last year when Davis blocked the game winner was the loudest I've heard an arena.

I think most UK fans would second this sentiment. Good point.

Bowling Green giving overrated Michigan State a run for their money in Bowling Green. The game was knotted at 45 all just a short period ago, but the Spartans have jumped out to a seven to nothing run to take a 52 to 45 lead with six minutes left.

The last time Michigan Sate traveled to NW Ohio, the No. 5 Spartans lost in Anderson Arena in a route, giving up nearly 100 to the Falcons. Back in 1990. After the game was through, Michigan State head coach Judd Heathcote, despondent in the press conference afterward, said, "I can tell you this, I am never bringing my team back here," referring to the House That Roars. It really did.

I'm not sure what's going on in east Lansing. Seems like the last few years, they've not played well together.

Lets not forget they beat Kansas everyone. The way they play D, they'll always have a shot to win against anyone

There's a reason D*ck Vitale once called it the best basketball arena in the country. I believe he made that comment after coaching a game there while with the Detroit Titans. It was the toughest road game in the Midwest throughout the '80s and '90s. Didn't miss a game there during the Antonio Daniels years. Those were some great times.

Once Dakich left though, so did the students it seems. The last years sucked man, the only time it was rocking was girls games

Agreed. Having gone to BGSU, I witnessed first hand the disappearance of the famous Anderson Animals. Of course, I only went to a couple of games during my time there and they were both when Dakich was still around. I pretty much stopped going to Falcon games after Anthony Stacey and Dave Esterkamp. Stacey was the man. (Even if it did take him eight years to set the school scoring record lol.) A real good guy. Got to know him really well he was my coach for Junior Falcons. One of the funnier people I've ever met.

I'll never forget one particular instance when I was like 12 and playing on Stacey's team. During one of our games in Anderson, I had a breakaway layup and as I went up for the shot, I did the Iverson oop-to-yourself-under-your-arm move. Stacey told the referrees (probably DeMar Moore or Tony Reid) to stop the game and then started high-stepping across the court like Barry Sanders, yelling "He did not! He did not!" as if I had just jammed it over three guys. Lol. As a 12-year-old, I felt like the best player in the world that day.

"The last thing I wanna say is I'm really, really lucky," Kelsey said. "I'm gonna get on an eight-hour bus ride and I'm gonna arrive in Rock Hill, S.C., and I'm gonna walk into my house and walk upstairs. I'm gonna walk into two pink rooms, OK, with a 5-year-old and a 4-year-old laying in that pink room, with a bunch of teddy bears laying in that room.
“I'm going to be an agent of change with the 13 young men I get to coach every day and the two little girls that I get to raise. But hopefully things start changing, because it's really, really disappointing.
”-- Winthrop coach Pat Kelsey
"And I'm gonna give them the biggest hug and the biggest kiss I've ever given them. And there's 20 families in Newtown, Conn., that are walking into a pink room with a bunch of teddy bears with nobody laying in those beds. And it's tragic."
Kelsey acknowledged that his team's opponent put him on a national stage and that he was going to use that stage to raise awareness four days after 20 children and six adults were shot to death at Sandy Hook.
"This has to be a time for change," he said. "And I know this microphone's powerful right now, because we're playing the (seventh)-best team in the country. I'm not going to have a microphone like this the rest of the year, maybe the rest of my life.
"I'm going to be an agent of change with the 13 young men I get to coach every day and the two little girls that I get to raise. But hopefully things start changing, because it's really, really disappointing."
Kelsey, a Cincinnati native and Xavier alumnus, called on President Barack Obama and Speaker of the House John Boehner to mend their differences and do whatever was necessary to prevent another such massacre.
"I don't know what needs to be done," Kelsey said. "I'm not smart enough to know what needs to be done. I know this country's got issues. Is it a gun issue? Is it a mental illness issue? Or is it a society that has lost the fact -- the understanding -- that decent human values are important?
"I didn't vote for President Obama. But he's my president now, he's my leader. I need him to step up. Mr. Boehner, the Speaker of the House, he's a Xavier guy, he's a Cincinnati guy. He needs to step up. Parents, teachers, rabbis, priests, coaches, everybody needs to step up."
His voice rising, and with his eyes welling, he finished by saying, "I'm proud to grow up American. I'm proud to say I'm part of the greatest country ever. And that's got to stay that way. And it'll stay that way if we change.
"But we've got to change."
Winthrop Head Coach speaking his mind

What change is this agent going to make?

Nice thought, though.
• Azubuike24
Yeah, I read that and haven't figured out exactly what his point was...or at least what he is planning to do.

My Chris Collins hunch is just that, a hunch. I based that solely off of the fact that Collins handles pretty much all of the in-game (half-time and post-game) interviews that Coach K defers to his staff, has been responsible for the recruiting of more of Duke's biggest stars than any other assistant on the current staff (Duhon, Re**** and Scheyer among them) and has been around the Duke program since 1992 (when he arrive as a player). Wojo would also be an excellent choice as well, if the new coach is in fact going to be from the program's family.

Have you read something different, Red Rider? Or do you just think Wojo would make a better coach? Just curious.
I know people in the program- just trust me on this one!

Laley23;1345623 wrote:Cant wait for OSU/Kansas. Should be a telling point for OSU. Duke was first road game and still early. I think they have improved a lot since then, but tough to really tell because of who they have played. This will be a great test.

After that, not to excited about anything until conference play lol. B1G should be fun 5 nights a week this year. Really excited about the season, for one of the few times ever, to see up to 10 of the B1G teams. Usually its IU and a few others. This year, its IU and about 7-8 others...in other words, at least a game a night should have my attention.

How on earth can you say they have improved since playing Duke? I mean Savannah St and Winthrop??? Come on man !!!

Texas up big on Carolina at the half, 46 to 33.

The 6-4 Longhorns once again playing without the ineligible Myck Kabongo.

Yeah well, Carolina is playing without Marshall, Barnes and Henson.

Oh, never mind. :(

...and McAdoo is hurting. UNC might be worse than we all thought.
