Boise is damn good. Almost won in Lansing, and lost to Utah recently. The Broncos were lights out in that game, shooting 60% including 10-19 from 3 and Marks scored 28 points in the second half alone

There's definitely a difference between the tradition and success of the Super Six schools that I mentioned, and the schools you have listed above. But I agree that Stevens could just as easily go to Michigan State, Syracuse, Arizona or Georgetown and end up doing really big things that might elevate one of those schools into that next tier. Stevens is that good.

Although this is certainly an optimistic fan talking, I might argue that Durham, North Carolina, would present the most ideal destination for Brad Stevens (minus the significantly high downtown murder rate, which Stevens could easily avoid by never leaving campus). Duke, like Butler, is a small private university with a community of less than 7,000 undergraduates (in Butler's case, under 5,000), nestled deep in the friendly confines of the Duke Forest. Stevens has oft said that he deeply cherishes the small-community atmosphere and aspects that both Butler and the city of Indianapolis offer, and that they are the reason why he has fallen in love with the school, the program and the people. And like Butler, Duke has an unusually dominant basketball program relative the to the small size of the university. Things to think about. It will likely never happen, though, even if Steven were available, because Coach K is going to ensure the next coach stays in the Duke family. It will be Chris Collins.

Of course, it is also possible that he wants to stay put and continue to build Butler into a bigger and bigger basketball power. I think he has the talent to do it. If he stays there another 30 years, I wouldn't bet against him winning a national championship there one day. It wouldn't be a smart bet.

I agree with all you said except Dukes next coach being Chris Collins-it will be Wojo! This I know

What makes you say that, Red Rider?

I know that. At least that is the plan right now.

^^^seriously, though, what basis do you have in making that statement?

Battle of unbeatens. Illinois beating Eastern Kentucky, late 2nd half right now.

This is more what I was going for, Red Rider.

My Chris Collins hunch is just that, a hunch. I based that solely off of the fact that Collins handles pretty much all of the in-game (half-time and post-game) interviews that Coach K defers to his staff, has been responsible for the recruiting of more of Duke's biggest stars than any other assistant on the current staff (Duhon, Redick and Scheyer among them) and has been around the Duke program since 1992 (when he arrive as a player). Wojo would also be an excellent choice as well, if the new coach is in fact going to be from the program's family.

Have you read something different, Red Rider? Or do you just think Wojo would make a better coach? Just curious.

Not that Wojo or Collings would be bad coaches at Duke. But if they go that route when Stevens is avaialble and willing to come to Durham...they are ratards.

I think you are underestimating Coach K's loyalty and desire to keep the job in the family. Duke has always operated this way. That's just the way it will probably be. It's his empire, and while it's not K's final decision, he is going to make his feelings known and offer his personal choice.

While I'd love Stevens, both Wojo and Collins have been with the program for so long learning under K's tutelage, that I would be very excited to have either one. The love each has for Duke is enough for me to know that they'd stop at nothing to keep Duke near the top. And on top of it, both are some of the best recruiters in the country for assistants.

It will be from in the family, no doubt in my mind.

    Maybe Dawkins will come back?

Doesnt make it the right move. As I said, it may work out and not saying they will be bad coaches at all. But I personally HATE staying in the family and think it is usually the wrong move unless at a mid-major.

Perhaps. But I hope not. He is in his fifth year at Stanford, and has yet to reach the NCAAs. Or even finish within the top three of the Pac 12, which is by far the worst of the major conferences annually. I like Johnny Dawkins, but he just never displayed the fire and spirited passion on the bench while at Duke or Stanford that Coach K is so famous for. I love that in a coach. Dawkins is a very soft spoken and reserved guy. The very antithesis of K, Collins and Wojo. That doesn't mean it makes Dawkins any less of a coach, but he also hasn't produced anything significant on the court yet, either. An NIT title is not getting it done.

Agreed. If the decision were left up to me, and it was between Chris Collins and Brad Stevens, I'd politely select Stevens. No hard feelings. It's highly probable, however, that Stevens won't even be available at that point in time, because I really do not anticipate K leaving Duke until 2022 at the very soonest.

Here's a name. How about Geno Auriemma? He said he'd only leave UConn for Duke or Carolina and the man can flat out recruit

Id laugh if he even got an interview anywhere but a stepping stone mens job. Like MAC level bad.

    ...jump shooters with vaginas. Haha.

I really am not sure what to think about that, because I never have before. While Auriemma is obviously a great women's coach, he's never coached men's and the transition would be very unique and I'm not sure the jobs are as transferrable as you seem to be making it out to be. The women's and men's games are entirely different worlds. JMO.

Well why couldn't he do well? Only difference is he has men instead of women

What's the difference other than they're shorter and slower and much less atheltic

About the biggest difference you could ask for in sports...

He has NEVER coached men, to my knowledge. His offense is nothing that would ever work in the mens game anymore. He would have no ties in recruiting...at all. He likely has no ability to transfer thoughts to male players, because women listen a lot more easily and are much more coachable than guys.

    It would be a disaster.

Those are pretty much the same thoughts I am having, especially the coachability point.

I mean, he is a great coach. But its womens ball.

I honestly dont know if he could recruit anyone. He has no ties anywhere... Even new coaches getting their first chance at a HC job have been recruiting as assistants for 10+ years, usually.
