College Basketball Random Chatter 2012-2013 Season

Not sure if anyone here has heard this or not, but everybody at N.C. State quit today.

C.J. Leslie is going pro, Lorenzo Brown is going pro, Rodney Purvis is transferring and T.J. Warren, who started 10 games, has put his name in the NBA Draft pool and is seeking counsel. The wheels are falling off the Mark Gottfried train quicker than I anticipated, but they are falling off nonetheless.

He might even get fired before Frank Haith does. That would be quite an accomplisment.

Yeah. When they go from fourth (I think?) in the league to last place over a one year period of time (a year in which the conference is expanding and, therefore, will get more overall attention...as opposed to the usual where it's a ton of attention for Duke and UNC and then a team has to be kickass to get anything noteworthy), that'll end his tenure with them quickly.

Should the Pac-12 Head of Officials, Ed Rush, be fired for his comments towards Sean Miller?

He said, and I'm paraphrasing here, "I'll give you $5,000 or a trip to Cancun if you T up or toss Miller" to the other officials, in Vegas, during the Pac12 tourney.

After the Donaghue stuff, you have to fire him don't you?

If these allegations are true, he should be fired on the spot

Just heard this on Mike and Mike. Some crazy stuff. Even if he really did say it as a joke, he needs to go. You don't joke about that stuff.

Pretty sure it's true..the Pac 12 commissioner released a statement, essentially saying he said it in jest and the other officials knew he was not serious.

N.C. State transfer Rodney Purvis, who originally verbaled to play for Rick Pitino at Louisville, apparently would like to move back home and play for the Cardinals. Very much doubt that N.C. State grants him permission to transfer to another ACC school, and even if he did, per ACC transfer rules, Purvis would have to sit out for two full years and would not be eligible until 2015-16. A kid with NBA talent isn't waiting that long.

Some big-time program is gonna get a good transfer.

Purvis' final 3 were N.C. State, Louisville and Kentucky. I don't see him staying in the ACC. I don't see Cal taking anymore N.C. State transfers (Harrow & Mays this past year). Will be interesting to see where he goes...

Reportedly, the main reason for the transfer is Purvis wanting to primarily play point guard, which Mark Gottfried apparently did not have in his plans for Rodney. With Anthony Barber set to arrive on campus this fall, Purvis wasn't playing any pg.

So, look for the kid to transfer to a school where he can play that position. I don't personally see him jumping to the pros. He's not on any draft boards, to my knowledge. He'd be going straight to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.

I saw on an NC State board that Tyler Lewis will also transfer.

Wow. Then that all but ensures that T.J. Warren, who took Rodney Purvis' starting spot at the end of the year, will bolt as well. N.C. State is facing the reality of losing its top eight performers from 2012-13.

They are in deep shit. With Syracuse, Pitt and Notre Dame heading to the ACC next season, N.C. State is probably assured of finishing somewhere in the 10 to 14 range.

There are also rumors of serious in-house problems that escalate beyond basketball. Mark Gottfried, the heat is on.

He gone. Pernetti has no choice but to let this guy go. S&L, you worked with Pernetti, what's your take on this?

Wow, that was even worse than I thought. How the fuck did they not immediately fire him after watching that tape? The guy is psycho.

Haha no..I met him once, he was an intense dude. His wife is hot, I was looking at her the whole time.

If he were five years younger, targeting Bob Hurley Sr. would be a fantastic idea for Rutgers. Doubt he would ever leave his post at St. Anthony's, though.

Dan Hurley is an up-and-comer but struggled in his first year at Rhode Island -- anyone would, the program was a disaster when he took it over -- so he likely will not be in the running. I wonder if Greg Marshall might listen with it being a Big Ten job now. Wouldn't be a great move, though. I think Rutgers is a tough job.
