PSU ruling

Paterno knew about the whole thing, and didn't do anything. Not to mention, Sandusky was around the campus years after he knew. Paterno is just as guilty as sandusky. I'll believe someone that researched this thing for hours over someone(you) who sucks the teet of accomplished athletic figures.
I see that you didn't find any implicit proof. Thanks for trying.

Again, I'll take the word of Freehs report over anything out there now. You are the only person who seems to be defending this.

The term you're looking for is explicit proof, and there usually isn't any in a coverup. You REALLY think there's truly incriminating evidence that's going to surface? No. Think Watergate

There is plenty of implicit proof that Paterno completely knew about it and at the very best ignored it, and I don't want to imagine the worst.
  • lhslep134
I'll freely admit it, I defended Paterno at first saying that I'll reserve judgment until we get both sides. I find the Freeh report to be sufficient enough for me to formulate my opinion that Paterno is a f*cking scumbag.

Thanks for the clarification there. My mistake.

    +1

I'm not someone who goes around calling 90 year old deceased people sons of bitches....but it's warranted here. Paterno covered up little children being raped by an old creepy man. He can rot in hell for all I care.

It has to come specifically from football revenue. They aren't even allowed to use money from another sport.
Yeah, but football revenue is used to support non revenue sports at most universities. I don't see where the NCAA has the authority to fine an institution for a non collegiate sports related crime. This is a criminal case surrounding people in charge of the program, but not specifically related to program violations of a competitive nature. I can see sanctions against the people responsible in the program, and to a lesser extent the football program itself, but where does the NCAA get off picking a $ figure out of the air and then demanding that be paid to whomever they designate. The penaties cut a broad swath, and affect people who are innocent of the whole situation. The NCAA has often been accused of being arbitrary, selective, heavy handed and uneven with the punishments it levies. This is another example....and a glaring one at that.

It is criminal when the innocent suffer at the hands of those authority figures that they trust. It would be nice if the NCAA got that message.

Vacating a win is like winning an argument with your wife. You know you did it, but it just doesn't count.

yeah. The way I understand it is the football program will still fund non revenue sports as usual, THEN the fine money would be paid. PSU stated they have an account for it and assure it'll use zero taxpayer dollars

Why isn't Jay Paterno getting roasted by the media? He knew everything and should have to do some jail time just because his old man took the pussy way out and died.

I think the ruling is absolutely fair. You can't tell me JoePa didn't know something was up. I don't care if he says he had no idea. You are the leader of that athletic program, and he had the university by it's ball (no pun) during his tenure, and you mean to tell me that no one told you about Sandusky? Come on Joe. You knew, and you did little to stop it. May God have mercy on your soul.

This is the same guy who wanted us to believe he didn't know what "BCS" stood for. Get real.

It didnt look like Penn St. was going to do anything, and if not them, then who would punish an institution who once found out tried covering it up? Our criminal system isnt set up to punish this program, that leaves the NCAA. If they do nothing, this coverup that took place on school grounds by school employees goes completely unpunished for not protecting these innocent kids while on their property and supervised by school employees.

Yeah it sucks for anyone not involved, but how could you want this crime to go unpunished by the very institution that was responsible?
  • derek bomar
I wish people would stop asking the Paterno family for comments on everything. Fuck you Jay, I don't want your opinion.

    Well said.

Also if players don't want to be punished, they have option of leaving!? Problem solved.

New coaching staff knew what situation was. No sympathy for them

Most psu fans around here knew it was coming. Most of them just want to move on and are excited to see what o'brian brings to the table.

The NCAA is supposed to govern college athletics.....PERIOD! PSU is taking the fall for illegal actions by Sandusky and those who were involved in the cover-up. PSU football gained no edge from the actions of the monster and others. The $60 million should go to the young victims of Sandusky horrible crimes. The NCAA should stick to college sports and let law enforcment do their job where criminal acts are concerned.

[URL="http://www.stamfordadvocate.com/sports/article/Moody-s-may-downgrade-Penn-State-s-credit-3730761.php"][LEFT]NEW YORK (AP) — Moody's Investors Service said Tuesday it may cut its rating on Penn State's credit as the university deals with the fallout from the Jerry Sandusky child sexual-abuse case and sanctions against the school's football team. The agency has an 'Aa1' rating on Pennsylvania State University's credit. That is its second-highest possible rating. The firm said a recent report by former FBI Director Louis Freeh and sanctions levied by the NCAA could hurt student enrollment and fundraising for the university, and the school also faces uncertainty in the form of ongoing federal and state investigations.Penn State has about $1 billion in debt, Moody's said. A downgrade could make it more expensive for Penn State to borrow money, which would be another long-term cost in a scandal that has already cost the school immeasurably.

While it may be off the subject, who governs the NCAA? Who do they answer to? It would be poetic justice if somehow( ain't gonna happen) the NCAA was taken to task over this ridiculous ruling.

Saw they took Paterno's statue over to the library to remind the students to keep quiet.

The NCAA is a membership run organization. Once the members (the colleges and universities) decide it has gone too far, they will make changes. Also participation in the NCAA is completely voluntary. If a school really felt the punishment did not fit the crime, it could just withdrawal and no longer participate in any NCAA events.

This is why the idea of the "Super Conferences" is so interesting in the world of college athletics. If a conference can obtain enough powerful schools and with the help of their own TV networks it appears that they could just withdrawal from the NCAA and have their own athletic association.

of course they got advantage from it. for over a decade they hid the child rapes. the revelations would have caused a loss of recruits and a loss of revenue.
