Would you want Notre Dame in the Big Ten?

The fact is it does make a difference, otherwise they wouldn't be in a conference at all in any sports. Go tell all the other kids playing athletics that they now have nothing to play for, no conference title, no NCAA tournament berth and see how many top recruits you get in those sports. But at the same time I doubt the Big East commissioners will sit around and let ND continue to have the opportunity to hire their coaches away in light of the recent situation without at least some future assurances that it won't happen.rock_knutne wrote:
First, ND will not join ANY conference, let alone be forced to join the Big East in football just because they hired a coach from said conference. Facts are, ND playing in the Big East in all other sports is a convenience factor.........BUT.........ND did return the favor when they agreed to play three Big East schools a year in football. Trust me, ND doesn't need the Big East for their other sports programs to exist, the football program makes more than enough money to fund the schools other sports programs.bcubed wrote: This topic may soon be very relevant to ND fans! It seems the hiring of Kelly has ruffled feathers in the Big East Conference! While ND football is still independant, the rest of ND athletics are in the Big East. The hiring of Kelly and discussions with UCONN coach Edsell are sure to be a hot topic at the next conference meeting. There are rules against hiring coaches from another team within your own conference and while ND football isn't technically in the conference you can imagine with the closeness of the rest of the athletic program this will be a serious talking point. It may come down to the Big East either forcing them all in or out, getting assurances their next hirings will not come from the Big East, or ND chosing to leave for another conference alltogether with the Big 10 being the only candidate! -
sjmvsfscs08^^The Big East needs Notre Dame more than Notre Dame needs the Big East. Again, the only sports that really matter are football and basketball. The Big East is one move away from being in serious jeopardy as a football conference. They will lick Jack Swarbrick's balls twice a day for the rest of time just to have him consider joining the Big East, and you can take that to the bank (God I hate that saying!). Bottom line is Notre Dame and the Big East are just fine.

Trueblue23Nope, not for me.

haha wow lets see how many teams are ranked in the top 25 from the bigten for basketball...a whopping 3 and from the big east?...6 so get the blinders off if you think the big ten is better than the bigeast in basketball because your making yourself look foolish.noquarter wrote:

now for the football i stand by my statement. ND would be at the top of the league most of the time with a few middle of the pack seasons.
as for the bigten title game. Lucas oil is Indy dumbass -
dlazzI find the ignorance of the ND fans comical.
ND went 6-6 with a terrible schedule. They'd be below .500 in the Big Ten.
Why would ND want to have a tougher schedule? They'd do even worse than they have been. -
Thunder70I'd rather have Rutgers than ND.
Partially because I hate ND more than I hate UM... -
j_crazyNope. too much drama. They aren't good enough to bring that baggage IMO.
IF it happened the league should be set up like this:
Great Lakes:
Ohio State
Michigan
Michigan State
Northwestern
Purdue
Penn State
Midwest:
NDU
Wisconsin
Illinois
Minnesota
Iowa
Indiana -

haha what? the big 10 actually plays some competition before the conference games start - hence the big 10 ACC challenge. I agree the top teams in the Big East are very strong, ND is not one of them. After the Big East starts playing conference games it will all shake out.Crimson_Streak wrote:

As far as football, you can stand with your thumb in your ass. ND may be in the top of the Big 10 - once a decade if that. You are entitled to your opinion (like most Domers we take it with a grain of salt).
ND being a real player - It kind of remindes me of an old saying "the sun has got to shine on the dogs ass every once in a while"
1 last thing - as far as Lucas oil in Indy - Read my comment you arrogant blind asshole. -

Wow... The big ten can't touch the Big East in basketball. Notre Dame generally puts out a solid basketball team.noquarter wrote:

0311sdpRemember Penn State, who the experts said would go to the Rose Bowl every year when they joined. They've gone what twice in 17-18 years. Notre Dame would be an upper echelon team (top half) most years, but if they had to play Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, and Iowa every year they would not win the Big Ten very often. Look how many times they lose to Purdue, Northwestern and Michigan State (not exactly big ten powerhouses.) As for Basketball, which conference is the best is different each season and I agree with you that this season the Big East at least early in the season is the best conference in the country, but that could change by tournement time.

you said whats wrong with indy ND too good to play there? i was asking a question on where it would be held and i thought indy would have been a great place to host the big ten title game.
as for basketball the big ten has 1 or 2 legit teams where the big east has 3-4 that could contend for a title
for football as of right now ND would be middle of the pack for now but give them a couple years and they would be in the top 4 for most years. and ill stand by that statement. Illinois? really? wisconson isnt that great and iowa is mediocre most years with a few decent years. as for pennstate i believe ND beat them a couple years ago under weis which is considered the worst decade of ND football -

Apparently ND said "No thanks" again. Weren't ND fans on the old huddle clamoring that the Big Ten doesn't want ND to join because they are scared? Seems to be the other way around, and I can't blame them because who would want to finish at the bottom of a conference year in year out when you can play patsy's all year and get BLOWN out in a bowl game? -

Miscommunication (sp) I apoligize - I thought you were refering to Indy as a step down for ND. -
bo shemmy3337I say no, I don't think the NBC and big ten network would make this a smooth transaction and ND is in great shape where they are IMP. They have the easiest chance of getting into a BCS game as it is. No way do they want in the Big 10 IMO.

Patsies all year, huh? Do you ever think before you post? ND's schedule was the 31st ranked schedule in the country. Not the most difficult but clearly stronger than any Big Ten team. The 4 Big Ten teams ahead of Notre Dame in the Saragin rankings and their SOS are:sleeper wrote: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4750901

I don't think either side is "scared" of the other. The Big Ten would love to have ND join to boost the conference's image and place in college football. Notre Dame wants to preserve "a big part of the tradition of the program and identity." -
rock_knutneThe collection of dumb asses on this board is really starting to mount. why don't some of you haters put that aspect aside and be reasonable in your assesments..........no logic what so ever, just hate!

What tradition and identity is ND trying to preserve? The fact that year in year out they are overrated by their fans and the media only to have a mediocre at best season and be placed in a bowl game they don't deserve only to get BLOWN out and have their fans go on and on about how good they will be next year blah blah blah? The only thing ND is preserving is their arrogance and stupidity, especially when NBC decides that 9 million a year for a bottom feeder program is too much, and ND comes begging for the Big Ten to be relevant again. ND wouldn't gain much from joining the Big Ten as most likely they'd still be mediocre year in year out, but at least when they lose their bowl game some people other than ND fans might give a hoot and want them to rise back to the top of college football.I don't think either side is "scared" of the other. You're an idiot.......scared of what, a conference that won 1 bowl game last year? BTW, get your facts straight junior.........ND actively pursued entrance in to the Big 10 years ago but was denied due to the BIGOTS that ran the show!sleeper wrote: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4750901
