Conference Tournament Discussion Thread

Azubuike24You think? I think the NEC, MEAC, Southland, SWAC and a few others (depending if the top team gets upset) would be a 16. Asheville I see as a 14 or 15...but we'll see.
-
reclegend22For what it's worth, Lunardi currently has Asheville or Savannah State out of the MEAC as a 16 in the South.
-
Azubuike24We'll see. He generally isn't that great at picking the seeds. Especially the lower seeds or play-in teams. Asheville does NOT have one of the 6 worst resumes in the tournament, which is what this is saying. Look at their OOC losses. Almost all quality power 6 teams, close games too. NCSU by 9, UNC by 16, UConn by 10, Tennessee by 4.

reclegend22Did anybody else notice Butler playing Slam Ball last night against Milwaukee? It was like a half-time show. Numerous alley-oops and some other pretty acrobatic dunks (at least in comparison to what is typical from the more below-the-rim Bulldogs). Brad Stevens, as I knew he would, definitely has the Dawgs playing their best basketball of the year.
With eight victories in their last nine, and wins this season over Purdue and Stanford (admittedly, the win over Johnny Dawkins' Cardinal isn't very impressive) and a near-miss against Indiana, is Butler in regardless of whether they beat Valpo today? I saw Lunardi, I believe it was, say so last night on ESPN. But, at fourth place in the Horizon regular-season, should they be? It would be interesting to see if Butler's prominence in recent tournaments would get them the nod even with a loss tonight. -

Agreed about Lunardi not always being as accurate as some may suggest. I have no idea how being a bracketologist is his only job. I mean, seriously.Azubuike24;1103856 wrote:We'll see. It certainly helps Butler and Brad Stevens that other bubble teams are shooting diarrhea chunks out of their asshole.reclegend22;1103860 wrote:Did anybody else notice Butler playing Slam Ball last night against Milwaukee? In most years they're clearly out, but this is a strange year for bubble teams..EVERYONE IS STILL ALIVE lol -
wildcats20I'm hoping Tennessee State pulls the upset today over Murray State. Because I have a feeling that UConn will get in if not.
And UConn has NO business being in the tournament as of right now. -
SportsAndLadyDespite a 1st round BET loss, Uconn's comfortably in, imo.

Especially with Jim Calhoun back. I think that does make a difference. Agreed that they're in, even though I hope they aren't. I wish nothing good upon Calhoun (except for being healed from cancer. I'm not a total a******.)SportsAndLady;1103869 wrote:Despite a 1st round BET loss, Uconn's comfortably in, imo. -
Azubuike24The bubble is really weak. I have a formula that I use every year to do my own projections, which are slightly different, but the numbers keep going down. I've narrowed it down to the absolute maximum of around 83 possible bids and I can't believe some of the teams at the very end.

They have 0 chance unless they get the auto bid.reclegend22;1103860 wrote:With eight victories in their last nine, and wins this season over Purdue and Stanford (admittedly, the win over Johnny Dawkins' Cardinal isn't very impressive) and a near-miss against Indiana, is Butler in regardless of whether they beat Valpo today?
Also, I checked out the bracket matrix, and didn't see a single projection that didn't have Asheville as a 16. Their best RPI win is 147. 1 Top-150 win and 0 top-100.
Compare that to a team like Valpo, who has 9 top-150 wins with 3 in the top-100, Bucknell (5 and 1), Montana (3 and 2 with a top 50 win), or even Long Island (2 and 2), and the resume is at best, on par with those, and in some cases clearly worse. -

The MAC usually gets a 14-15 seed, and Asheville got pummeled by Ohio (by 19) 2 weeks ago. I could see them easily as a non-play-in 16.Azubuike24;1103852 wrote:You think? reclegend22We're heading for a frantic finish in the Ohio Valley. Buckle up.
-
chicago510Wow, big no call there on that go ahead bucket by Murray state. Bubble teams holding breath.
-
Azubuike24Agree with Fran. Either charge or block.
-
wildcats20
WAY too much contact for a no call.Azubuike24;1103888 wrote:Agree with Fran. Either charge or block.
1.1 now. And it SHOULD be Murray St. ball. -
ts1227Fran is going to choke a bitch
-
MulvaI think the ball was clearly out of his hand before the contact was made, so unless I'm mistaken the basket would have counted even if a charge was called.
-
wildcats20
True, BUT they don't call it that way very often.Mulva;1103893 wrote:I think the ball was clearly out of his hand before the contact was made, so unless I'm mistaken the basket would have counted even if a charge was called. -
reclegend22Don't worry Tennessee, there's always the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament.
-
MulvaWichita State and Illinois State tied at 58 with under 8 to play.
-
Azubuike24Looking at the first huge upset of Championship week.
-
MulvaTop seeds always seem to struggle in the MVC. Creighton plays no defense at all, so it's far from a sure thing that they'll win that tournament.

Or not.reclegend22;1103896 wrote:Don't worry Tennessee, there's always the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. -
Azubuike24Creighton is rolling Evansville and will roll ISU.
