Notre Dame 2012

If true, Neal has lost two cousins in the last few weeks. One died in a car accident and now this. That's some crazy shit in such a short period of time.

Perhaps the immediate family members of the deceased asked them not to talk about it publicly? Sure, it wouldn't take much time to say, "we had a death in the family." But maybe it wasn't mentioned out of respect for the family.

The fact that you really and truly think a person would make up a story about their cousin being murdered shows that you aren't very bright.

Haha not surprised to see you, karen, and tobias show up to defend ND...I swear to God you 3 are so damn defensive when it comes to ND.

You can't say "I don't buy it takes 3 days to come out and give a reason why you ______________" without you 3 getting your panties in a bunch.

    Love it

I'm not getting my "panties in a bunch" over anything. You don't believe the reasoning...that's fine. I don't care one way or the other. I just find it hard to believe that you really think someone would make up a story about a family member getting murdered.

Douche on, my man. Douche on.

I didn't say he made it up. I said it seems weird to me that it takes 3 days to come out with it. How is saying "we had a death in the family" disrespectful to the family anyways?

    You love making illogical statements?

Think about what you are saying.

I'm not making any statements, actually.

If the family says, "we'd appreciate it if you didn't talk about this until we're ready" it would be disrespectful to say anything about it before they are ready. Maybe not everyone in the family found out about it yet, and the immediate family didn't want the rest of the family to learn about it from reading ESPN. Just a thought...

You are saying it makes more sense to make up a story about a family member getting shot and killed than to not make a public statement on a very private and traumatic family matter. That is illogical.

There is no point in discussing this any further with you, it will just lead to the thread being locked again.

I'm not a troll, this thread won't be locked. It's just conversation. If the mods feel this is trolling/"illegal conversation" then wow.

Just because I'm saying it makes more sense for A to happen than B, does not mean I said A happened.

Regardless of what did or didn't happen after the scheduled presser, it's what didn't happen before that puzzles me. The family couldn't MAKE A PHONE CALL and tell whomever that due to a family emergency the press conference would have to be cancelled, pushed back, rescheduled, whatever? Come on

Agree with this. Cancelling is perfectly acceptable give the reason. But someone could have made a simple call to someone letting them know they wouldn't be there.

I completely understand this. And yes, in a perfect world, a phone call would have been made. But I'm going to give the kid and his family the benefit of the doubt. He just lost his second cousin in a couple of weeks, this time because his cousin was murdered. I can't speak for him, but I know that I would not be in the best frame of mind and I definitely wouldn't be thinking about all the people waiting on me to announce my college decision.
  • vball10set
I can appreciate ND fans coming to this young man's defense, and we'll never know exactly what all the circumstances were surrounding the no-show, but as big a deal this announcement was made out to be and nobody thought to call and let some one know? For the record, I don't put this on Davonte's shoulders, I put it on his old man's-all the way.

Careful. Saying this means you think the family is faking the death.

Not one person was like "uhh hey guys, his cousin died...obviously the reason why he didn't show up"

    I don't buy it

That sounds an awful lot like you dont buy his cousin died.

I'm not saying they faked his cousin's death lol jesus, i've been on here and JJ for probably 5 or 6 years, have you ever seen me say something like someone would fake a relative's death? lol

I'm simply saying I don't buy the whole "ooohhh it's okay, his cousin died and no one, for 3 days, made something as simple as a phone call to call off the elementary school thing, or call a media outlet and say the real reason"

I mean come on...3 days. He was getting drilled by everyone, and they don't want that to be justified? Just let the kid take all this bad reputation because you couldn't make a phone call?

Actually, that's exactly what you were saying. When Karen posted this...

Again, I never siad it was made up..I said it being made up makes more sense than just not telling anyone what happened for 3 fucking days.
  • The Equalizer
Maybe they were a little more concerned with funeral arrangements and grieving than explaining why he missed a public appearance. It's college football. He didn't miss a chance to go into space or save someone's life with a cure for cancer. I don't give a fuck if they never explained it and the fact that its a family issue makes plenty of sense. If you didn't like how they handled it I'm sure they're real concerned.

lol....this has been an entertaining read.

It's a great get for ND, but IMO this whole situation is a crock of shit. I'm glad OSU didn't have to deal with this headache. We've dealt with enough of it.

Ehh...I don't mind dealing with this since it means Neal is Irish. It's not like the kid was late because he was in jail. The only people that will even remember this by the end of the season are the ones that hate ND.
