I think he may be gone but I hope not, I still think that he has more potential than Hyde or Hall, the incoming Freshmen being unknowns (as far as ability to contribute immediately). Something definately needs to be done to help the O-Line (new coach will be agood start) they were just horrible in the Bowl game. Sabino looked a little better and with Grant, Shazier, and a couple incoming guys LB should be ok. Moeller graduating will help, we won't have to watch him miss tackle after tackle anymore. Wide outs will be green but fairly talented and an upgrade in the secondary would not hurt either. A more aggressive approach may help those cover guys out too. QB, I really like Miller but is Guiton going to transfer too? If so they'll have to probably burn the redshirt season for Cardale Jones. I think anywhere from 10-2 or better is a real possibility next season and then look out for 2013.
I can't imagine Guiton leaving unless he is somehow passed up by Jones in the spring. Backing up a QB that's going to run the ball his fair share, will most likely turn into an opportunity for Guiton at some point in the season.

Berry was all but gone the first time he got into trouble this past season. The second time he got into trouble sealed the deal. I would be *SHOCKED* if Berry did not transfer out / was let go.

Rod Smith is the interesting one. Smith certainly has the talent to contribute at Ohio State, but because he can't quite seem to hold onto the ball (and is somewhat buried on the depth chart), I would not be *that* surprised if we end up seeing him leave. I do think he stays, however.
LJ;1040280 wrote:Were you missing from this forum all last offseason?

No... I knew there was talk about it... I'm just surprised to see it happen his senior year. If it would have happened, I would have thought they would have done it last season. Why switch someone right before their senior year?

Interesting. Baldwin was buried at DE anyhow.

Maurice Clarett? Marcus Lattimore? Lamichael James?

lol, uh.... did you mean to quote me?

Smith holding onto the ball can be coached. You can see the natural talent. I think if he stays, he'll get some carries this season.

That's plenty? You just mentioned a guy that isn't even on the roster... You talk about Smith and Berry not proving anything yet so it doesn't hurt. You do realize that Dunn and Ball have proven less as of right now, right? That's pretty much my whole point. You have Hall that's going to have the typical Urban RB role. You have Hyde that's probably going to be the workhorse (which is a new role to him, even if his load is 12+ carries a game). Berry probably won't be on the team, which is great. Smith has to learn the first lesson of being a college RB, or he'll never play for anybody. Then two FR are coming in. IMO, I think we have a below average unit with potential. Potential may not be a dirty word under this staff like it was with the other. But all in all, we've got a couple of backs and none of them are proven just yet. Hall and Hyde look like they can be pretty solid, but all it takes is a couple nagging injuries to flip the script.

As Mike Golic would say, reallllly? Go back to bed sir. You're making pennies to my dollars on this stance. I'll give you 100 guys that couldn't for every stud FR that carried the load consistently.

and James was only tossed in because of Blount's suspension

You said you cannot count on a FR. I listed 3 examples where you most certainly could. And that's off the top of my head. The reason why you don't see it more often is because typically you have junior or senior players that are much better. I'm not arguing that they're abundant, but to say you cannot rely on a FR RB is simply not true. In fact, if there's one position you CAN rely on as a true FR, it's RB.

Rod Smith, even if he returns will probably not be somebody who contributes much at RB in an Urban Meyer offense. His footspeed and agility did not appear to be good at all last year.

Not sure why he would play over Hyde who is a big guy himself and has some speed.

You're really reaching. The expression is you can't count on a freshman. Not that Freshman ALWAYS are bad. The general statement allows for the fact that YES, there can be good freshmen. But you shouldn't COUNT on it to happen... which is exactly what you are doing.

Getting freshmen that can contribute right away is a bonus, don't count on it.

    See how it works?

^What he said. I'm just hoping there aren't too many nagging injuries. It seems those nagging injuries over the past few years have put a damper on our overall group potential. They'll be fine talent wise, I just don't see any leadership from that position.

Injuries are a part of the game. If anything, I think OSU has actually be lucky with the # of injuries we have sustained and to the players who have sustained them. It's not like we've had our starting QB, RB, stud WR, LT, and some key defensive player fall to some serious injury. The whole "tattoos" thing is another argument. I'd say we've actually been pretty luck in terms of the injury game.

Rod Smith will be #3 at best next year at RB. I am wondering if he is able to accept that. And OSU two blue chip RB coming in with Ball and Dunn. So I am not too concerned about the RB position. With the drama surrounding Smith not making the trip to the bowl game, I think its highly doubtful he will return to OSU.

The only concern I have next year is getting his brother to commit. That dude is a stud.

Coach Meyer is working on Armani Reeves CB out of MA. Cameran Williams and him are a package deal most likely. I would watch that one close. Also Devonte Neal is visiting this weekend.
  • gyea36
sorry if i missed this, but what happened to the talk of rod smith moving to linebacker?
  • imex99
[h=4]Camren Williams NOT taking his visit to PSU this weekend and being reported that he will be a Buckeye....[/h]

Yes!!!! Now bring your boy Reeves with you!!

Reeves is visiting scUM this weekend and trying to figure out a time to visit OSU.
  • Midstate01
I'm not that worried about him visiting scUM because he will visit us AFTER them. And if Williams is osu, I think reeves follows.

I think he was basically an emergency LB. They were going to rep Boren at LB as well if needed.

So apparently Talyor Decker is back on the radar. WTF. This is going to be a crazy last month of recruiting. I think we finish with...

    Decker
    Dodson
    O'Conner
    Williams
    Reeves
    Neal

Dominic Clarke to be arrainged in court tomorrow after being arrested for OVI, speeding and running a stop sign....

With Dominics BB gun incident in 2011, will Urban lay down the hammer?
