Bowl schedule

So BCS people are just going to look at their awful ratings to their biggest game and just go, "oh well...we'll get em next year"?

This excuse only works in the SEC(see Utah against Bama)

Sounds exactly like Bama this year.

Although there's a big difference, I'm sure Bama is grateful.

Yes...I seriously think that if the ratings suck this year they will not scrap the whole deal during this offseason. You seriously think they are going to be able to scrap the BCS, come to an agreement on a playoff scenario that all conferences agree on, solidify TV deals and site coordination, and have that system ready to go for next year...all in one offseason?

It's sports. Poor ratings mean that people don't like the match-up. It happens every year, in every sport...sometimes people don't tune in to a championship game because they don't like the teams. But the BCS is more than just the NCG...if you guys hate the BCS so much and want it to change, you better not watch the Rose Bowl either. Don't tune in to the Fiesta Bowl. Don't watch the Orange Bowl. Every year one of those has lower ratings than the others. The BCS is going to look at it as a whole to determine a loss or gain. Not just one individual game.

A business does not (or at least should not) over-react to a single bad year. Should interest decline over the next several years, one would expect changes to be made.

It'll do a lot more good than bad if you want the system to change. Good ratings=BCS forever

    Bad ratings + coaches bitching=change

It's really not that hard, do comedians go to college?

Actually yes. Most do. But I'm not sure how that applies to this conversation.

But bad ratings (for one game) for one year =/= change. There are more than just one game associated with the BCS.

Now if you had said: bad ratings for all the BCS bowls, for a few years in a row = change...then I would have agreed. But if you think bad ratings for this one NCG will somehow evoke all this change, you're just plain wrong.

It's really not that hard, do retards go to college?

Bad ratings + coaches/media talking, can absolutely be a jumpstart to change. Will it happen in a year, of course not, and I'm not sure anyone ever said it would. However, coaches are starting to talk, as more and more teams are backing into BCS games. Va. Tech? Really? Didn't have a win over a top 25 team, and didn't win their conference. How they get into a pool for a BCS game, I have no idea. UM, nice comeback year, deserving of a BCS game? No chance. It's not just the NCG, it's the whole system which has gotten worse, instead of better, over the past few years. It's never going to be perfect, but it has to get better than this. I even stated this back when Ohio State got into the NCG against LSU, there's no way they deserved to be in the NCG, but they lost earlier than the teams ahead of them, so they backed in. It's a terribly flawed system.

And the bad ratings have to start somewhere..so people don't watch this game, the BCS people will take notice. Then all these coaches start bashing the system and the NCAA will take notice. Then it happens again the next year. They'll change.

And queencity, this isn't the first time the NCAA realizes people hate the system. It's not just "one bad year" of the BCS..it's been a decade worth of stupidity, and this is sort of the nail in the coffin.

The next time that college football fans show their disapproval of the BCS by their actions will be the first. Words are meaningless, votes = dollars.

If you ran a business, and every customer told you he hated your product while at the same time handing over his wallet, what would you do?

SportsAndLady did when he said you just have to sacrifice one championship game and change will happen. I am simply pointing out that the BCS makes money off of the other bowls as well...so sacrificing this one game won't do much except make them say, "well shit, probably shouldn't let two teams from the same conference in the title game anymore."

And I'm not saying the system is perfect, and isn't flawed. But it's not designed to give the fans a "true" national champion. It's designed to take the top two teams from the poll (which the BCS is) and have them play for a title that the NCAA doesn't even recognize. All the while, the conferences make money.

Nobody is changing anything for at least another three years after this. That's when ESPN's conference with the BCS is up again. The only reason why coaches and schools are upset right now is because the championship pits two teams from the same conference. It's funny, because that would probably happen a lot more with a playoff.

But with ESPN pumping in an extra $125 million a year that gets distributed to the major six conferences, the smaller conferences, and ND (all of this on top of what the BCS already splits - $142.5 million last year)...I'm sure the schools and coaches will settle down a little after their checks come in.

I'd improve my product...seems like a simple answer.

People are always going to watch, why not improve the product to strengthen your brand?

No need when there is a.) no competition, and b.) companies like ESPN paying you hundreds of millions of dollars to get exclusive rights to show your product.

Incorrect answer. If you are maximizing your income, you do not fuck with success.

Maximizing your income? How do you know they are maximizing their income right now? College football can only get more popular..you seriously do not think with a playoff system college football wouldn't become more popular than it is today?

If it were a literal playoff, LSU would be champs without need to play. They are the only undefeated team.

Wrong. Everyone in my town could not watch. If they don't have a Nielsen box, no difference.

I could buy into this if you simply said "UM didn't deserve a bowl bid." I might still disagree, but it would be more accurate. MSU does not deserve a BCS bid.

I'm talking about a general population. Not anything specific. If some shitty ohio town you are from doesn't watch the game, obviously it won't affect anything..but say a million less people watch this year than normal, that would do something (the million number is just a guess..I don't know exactly how many the dent would be)
