Voters already trying to push OSU into title game. OSU jumps over Stanford

jordo212000The BCS has/will fail this year. No getting around it. There have always been flaws, they are just much more apparent this year.

1. Why would a 5-loss team get a chance to get hot for 3/4 games (a quarter of the season) and then be considered a champion over a team won more games in the regular season than they did even after that streak?Pick6;990090 wrote:In the NFL, you have to go through a playoff to get, and earn a chance at the best. Alabama has one loss, as does OSU. Alabama already had their chance, OSU deserves one. That is the only way a true champion will be crowned this year, IMO.
2. Alabama and OSU both lost. You can't say one had their chance and the other didn't just because Alabama played and lost to the best team and OSU played and lost to a crappy team.
No matter how many times you guys say it, the BCS doesn't crown any less of a "true" champion than any other format. -

No they aren't. There is nothing spectacularly more controversial than any other year. There are two legitimate contenders for the second spot in the championship game and either choice has plenty of ammo to back up the selection. If Oklahoma State loses, there's no controversy at all. You guys want a play-off so bad that you start jumping on every little possible scenario beginning with the first BCS standings and act like its proof the system is broken. It is highly selective, but it works in the end. At worst, you can always say, "this team might have been better" but you can never EVER say, "this team absolutely didn't deserve it".jordo212000;990121 wrote:The BCS has/will fail this year. I would actually answer this question in the negative. It was an ugly ugly overtime game marred by missed field goals, that resulted in a 9-6 final, a game in which Alabama outgained LSU by 23% of their total yards.Pick6;990145 wrote:Do you know that LSU is better than Bama?
So no, I don't know for certain that LSU would beat Alabama in the national championship game. -

the only thing that sucks about this year (aside from rematch theater for the national championship game) is that the last weekend of the year will have no effect on the title gameenigmaax;990150 wrote:No they aren't. There is nothing spectacularly more controversial than any other year. -

Bama was also at home. If they were to play again, it would be a virtual home game for LSU. I wouldnt expect the outcome to be different. But like I said, Bama had their shot, and choked.lhslep134;990164 wrote:I would actually answer this question in the negative. j_crazyIt's just weird that LSU has to beat Alabama twice to win it but Alabama only has to beat LSU once to be champions. I want OSU vs LSU for that reason.

Had their shot at what? To win out and play for the national championship? Same exact shot that OSU had and they blew it even worse.Pick6;990175 wrote:But like I said, Bama had their shot -

Had their shot to prove that they are better than LSU. OSU was upset, but had an excuse (mourning from the death of a coach/other faculty members).OSU wasnt mentally ready to play that game. Even though I dont really buy that, it has to be considered.lhslep134;990192 wrote:Had their shot at what? To win out and play for the national championship? You can't tell me that you would feel we would have more of a "real" national champion if Bama got the rematch. No matter the outcome of that game, there is going to be controversy. -

No. And no. Do you know that Alabama couldn't beat LSU if they played again?Pick6;990145 wrote:do you know that LSU is better than OSU? Do you know that LSU is better than Bama?
You guys talk about how other play-off systems are so much better. Baseball and basketball teams can be slightly better than .500 in the play-offs and be called champions. There's a much less sample size in football, so trying to pass off any single result as the end of the argument is contrary to everything else you want to believe in. -

This isn't about proving you're #1, this is about proving you're #2 (and hence getting a chance to prove you're #1) so LSU has nothing to do with this. Alabama blew their shot, in a 3 point loss to the #1 team. OSU blew their shot in a more craptacular fashion.Pick6;990200 wrote:Had their shot to prove that they are better than LSU. -

I really think people are letting the fact LSU happened to be the #1 team Alabama lost to cloud their reasoning. If that #1 were any other team, we wouldn't even be having this discussion.j_crazy;990190 wrote:It's just weird that LSU has to beat Alabama twice to win it but Alabama only has to beat LSU once to be champions. So try this. Instead of Alabama lost to LSU, just say they lost to #1...
"Alabama lost to #1 by 3 points in overtime. OSU lost to Iowa State." Which one should go? -

But osu has better wins than bama -

If you want to use that logic... Bama lost to #1 by 3 points, Houston has lost to nobody. Yes they did. The lost to Iowa State. Not hard to figure that out.Pick6;990272 wrote:Not if they beat OKlahoma. -

Obviously there are other factors that keep Houston from being #2. That's what the BCS does.Pick6;990268 wrote:If you want to use that logic... Bama lost to #1 by 3 points, Houston has lost to nobody. Which one should go? -
enigmaaxJust some random info as to what happened from last week to this week:
Arkansas lost 648 points in the Harris Poll with the loss to LSU. The top teams moved this much (actually picking up more than Arkansas lost):
Oklahoma St +147
Alabama +137
Stanford +141
Va Tech +136
Houston +87
Boise +55
Negligible difference at the top. Alabama will probably be fine in this poll with a 200+ point lead over Stanford and 300+ over Va Tech and Ok State.
Arkansas lost 412 in the Coaches Poll, which was restributed amongst the top teams (and all those points didn't go to the top teams:
Oklahoma State +89
Stanford +67
Boise State +51
Va Tech +49
Houston +21
Alabama -2
Alabama really doesn't have much to gain and Ok State is gaining steam, but still have a lot of ground to make up being 5th. Oregon picked up over 100 points in this poll to be the biggest beneficiary of the Arkansas loss. Really?
The computers suddenly love Houston - they jumped from 12 to 8 (Boise bumped from 8 to 9, which cost them a better slot in the overall standings, irrelevant as that may be). And the computers suddenly hate Virginia Tech - they dropped from 7 to 10. If they lost that much ground by beating an 8-4 team, not sure that beating Clemson is going to do anything for them. If voters come to their senses on VT, that is where Oklahoma State would make its biggest move in the human polls. Will it be enough (assuming they win)? -

Arkansas has a better record and is already ranked higher in the BCS than Oklahoma. That one win wouldn't be better than Alabama's top win.Pick6;990272 wrote:Not if they beat OKlahoma. -

A 9-3 Oklahoma or a 10-2 Arkansas? Hmm, seems like Arkansas is the better win.Pick6;990272 wrote:Not if they beat OKlahoma. -
