And I disagree. Coaching at this level, almost ALL are pretty damn bright as far as knowledge of the game. If they aren't, they wouldn't be at this level. Sure, there are some exceptions. Major difference, besides recruiting, is in preparation, mentally and physically. Yes, game adjustments make a difference. No question. But they are minor. Its what done before the ball goes up that makes the difference. Then its on the players to execute a game plan. Which we all know, is far from a perfect science.

It's a mix of both. Sure the players have to execute...that is a given. But after 3 years for watching RRod and his staff, and Hoke and his staff, there are definitely good and bad game coaches.

Illinois has to drop some game soon...right?

Seven of their next thirteen games are on the road (PSU, Minny, IU, tsun, Neb, OSU & Wisky) with tough home games vs. Wisky & MSU, so yes, they will drop some games.
  • GOONx19
7 of their next 13? So basically half? Like everyone else in the country?
  • gorocks99
More importantly, they have to play Wisconsin (twice), Michigan (twice), @ Indiana, @ Ohio State, and vs MSU. That smells like at least four losses.

what does this have to do with last night?

Nebraska's biggest basketball win in over 10 years?
  • Azubuike24
They returned a solid squad from last year. I'm surprised Nebraska hasn't been better actually. Had them pegged as anywhere from 6th to 8th in the B1G...solid win.

Tom Crean's Hoosiers are taking on water...
  • Mulva
That's an awful loss. IU probably looking at 10-8 at best in the B1G at this point.

Nebraska hasnt been to the NCAA tourney since 1998
  • chicago510
Tom Crean isn't coming out of that locker room for at least 4 hours.

What kind of logic is that? All coaches are even in terms of in game adjustments, but not in pre-game prep? lol

Bob Knight once said, "Get me to the Final Four. Then Ill win it" Saying the players had to not fall on their face early on. But that he would out-coach anyone in the Final Four. He did to, 3/3 lol.

Yep. Starting to see what I expected this team to be all year long.

They just dont have any depth. Go about 7 deep. But that 7th is Matt Roth, who is essentially only a shooter (though a very good one at 60% from 3). But you have your starting 5:
    -Hulls
    -Jones III
    -Oladipo
    -Watford
    -Zeller

    Then the bench:
    -Sheehey
    -Roth

Then the guys who play, but arent good enough to play in the B1G in all honesty:
    -Elston
    -Pritchard
    -Abell
    -Moore

Bob Knight and his HUGE EGO ( I luv Knight) said that. Sorry pal, the game is won and lost most times, before the ball even goes up. Do you think that Izzo just wins games during the game? Did he just instill his teams toughness during the games? Did he just instill his teams rebounding during the game? Does Coach K just tell his players to play pressure defense and it all of a sudden just happened during a game? Did Knight just tell his players go play great defense in the half court during a game, and it automatically happen during the game? I could go on and on.
There is an old saying many coaches say after a practice heading into a game, "the hay is in the barn". Sorry, but the great coaches, win the games prior to the game. Yes, in game adjustments are big, no question. And no question, they do affect some outcomes. But its the preparation, execution that typically takes care of a game. A coach can't just make shit up on the run. Those things are practiced. Those adjustments, are in the plan, which was practiced prior to a game.
  • thavoice
^^Agreed about the Hay is in the barn comment.

I know BK was asked a few times after games when at the end he didnt use a TO and let the team play and his answer would be he feels that he has his teams prepared better than the other coach and why call a TO to let them catch up on defense.

Awful loss last night. I turned it away for a few minutes after they went up by ten. IU had many chances to extend the lead when it was at 7 and even at 10. There are games you gotta win if you want to be a true contender......so
