yup
COLUMBIA - KOMU 8 has confirmed Boone County sheriff deputies arrested MU football coach Gary Pinkel Wednesday night for DWI. Pinkel posted a $500 bond and was released from the Boone County Jail.
Deputies pulled Pinkel over in his Chevrolet Avalanche for lane and signal violations on Keene Street near Broadway around 10 p.m. The sheriff's department said this is Pinkel's first offense, and deputies said he was cooperative.
Major Tom Reddin said Pinkel's name did not appear on the Boone County Sheriff's Department 0700 report due to a computer glitch.
The sheriff's department said it has a dash cam video of the arrest, but will not release it until the end of the investigation.
Pinkel has been an advocate for safe driving, particularly for motorcycle riders. He was the spokesman for the "Arrive Alive" campaign by the Missouri Department of Transportation starting in 2008. In the campaign, Pinkel appeared on posters, billboards, and radio commercials urging drivers to watch out for motorcycles and to drive safely.
Pinkel has had at least two players and an assistant coach involved in DWI cases last year. Pinkel suspended both players, Will Ebner and Beau Brinkley, but reinstated them after two missed games in the 2010 season. Police also arrested assistant coach Bruce Walker in 2010 for suspicion of DWI while parked in a running vehicle in a parking lot. -

He should get the same opportunity that any new incoming coach would get when hired under more normal circumstances.hoops23;975914 wrote:Just stop with the Fickell nonsense.
Please tell me WHY other than the fact that he's been with OSU, makes you think we should keep this guy? His coaching horrible, his adjustments are terrible, his in-game managent is horrible, and his game plans are bland. -
Y-Town SteelhoundHard to judge Fickell fully when he's not even coaching with his own assistants (except for Mike Vrabel, which I've yet to hear anyone say that was a bad hire for him.)
You talk about his "gameplan" and then fail to realize that is effect on the offensive gameplan is very little. -

I don't think it was a bad hire, because to be honest, he seems irrelevant. That being said, IMO this is the worst linebacking corps we've had in a decade, but is the lack of talent to blame, or the coaching? I don't know.Y-Town Steelhound;976478 wrote:Hard to judge Fickell fully when he's not even coaching with his own assistants (except for Mike Vrabel, which I've yet to hear anyone say that was a bad hire for him.). -

People think of Tressel as a defensive guy, but he actually had his hands in the offense mostly. That being said, basically it is the same whole defensive stuff + Vrabel. Klein isn't Brian Rolle or Lauranaitis. Sabino disappears. The secondary is extremely young. Everyone complains about Wisky and Nebraska coming back on OSU, but you gotta remember, those are 2 top 30 scoring offenses (with Wisconsin being top 10) against a young defense.vball10set;976490 wrote:I don't think it was a bad hire, because to be honest, he seems irrelevant. Good point LJ, I've been trying to tell people for over a year that no matter if Tress (or the Tat 5) were here or not...OSU was replacing 7 Defensive starters and that is tough to do and still maintain BCS Bowl expectation levels. IMHO I think Tress might have been only one game up on Fickell at this juncture in the season had he still been here. -

He's also never had a top 10 defense year in and year out like he would at Ohio State. I would love to see what he could do with the future NFL offensive linemen that come from Ohio and a dominate defense.LJ;976168 wrote:Chip Kelly?! You mean the guy who has never won a bowl game? -

People said the same thing about Rich Rod going to UM. He would still recruit the same kind of guys at OSU that he would at Oregon.TBone14;976616 wrote:He's also never had a top 10 defense year in and year out like he would at Ohio State. Chip Kelly will be available at the end of the season....or sometime next season once Oregon fires him for NCAA violations ala Jim Tressell.TBone14;976163 wrote:Ohio State fan here- desperate for Urban Meyer. Here's the problem, 4 and 5 star recruits don't want to play in gimmick offenses and defenses. Players with NFL aspirations want to play in systems that will prepare them for the NFL game. We saw that with Rich Rod. He wasn't able to recruit top notch talent in Ann Arbor, because big time players don't want to play in those systems. Look at OSU, Alabama, LSU, Florida, Texas, and USC, who are, for the most part, traditional offensive teams, and these teams get great recruits.TBone14;976616 wrote:He's also never had a top 10 defense year in and year out like he would at Ohio State. Why would the powers to be want Fickell to stay on as head coach??? All he was supposed to do was wear a headset, hold a plastic game plan sheet and PRETEND to be the head coach for FIVE DAYS.hoops23;975914 wrote:Just stop with the Fickell nonsense.

No he shouldn't. He wasn't hired as a normal coach. OSU didn't go through the same hiring procedures and exhaustive search procedures to find the best candidate. He should NOT be given the same opportunity as a normal coach as a normal coach would have gone through the hiring process.queencitybuckeye;976448 wrote:He should get the same opportunity that any new incoming coach would get when hired under more normal circumstances.
I don't understand why people think Fickell should receive an opportunity of a reasonable span to institute his program. He didn't earn it like a normal coach would. -

He earned it in ways that, and no offense intended (truly), you don't yet possess the maturity to understand.Fly4Fun;976706 wrote:No he shouldn't. He wasn't hired as a normal coach. What a great response that is...queencitybuckeye;976720 wrote:He earned it in ways that, and no offense intended (truly), you don't yet possess the maturity to understand.
Instead of just throwing out an insult, try articulating your point of view.
He earned the HC position because of a unfortunate position the school was in. Yes, OSU did put a lot of trust in him by naming him the interim HC for just FIVE games when OSU thought JT would be back. But then he was thrust into the full time HC position for the whole season. He didn't earn that... that was put on him. He never earned the right to be a full-time head coach at OSU. He was an interim coach and that was it.
He does not deserve the same opportunity as a normal HC would receive. It's pretty simple. -
TBone14LJ;976635 wrote:People said the same thing about Rich Rod going to UM. He would still recruit the same kind of guys at OSU that he would at Oregon.
Valid point. Rich Rod had some good offenses at Michigan, though. He hitched his star to the wrong defensive coordinator and tried to run the 3-3-5. Kelly recruits skill players from all over the country but get his guys in the trenches locally. Ohio HS > Oregon/Washington HS players.
LaGarrette Blount wasn't prepared the the NFL? You don't think James can play in the NFL? OSU, Alabama, LSU, Florida, Texas and USC get great recruits because they are OSU, Alabama, LSU, Florida, Texas and USC. Oregon runs a normal defensive scheme that Kelly has absolutely nothing to do with.se-alum;976692 wrote:Here's the problem, 4 and 5 star recruits don't want to play in gimmick offenses and defenses. Tressel had inherited a team that was lackluster the previous couple of seasons, but talented. He molded that talent. I don't believe Fickell could do that. I see what he is doing with it, they are regressing. They should have never lost to Purdue or played like garbage against Indiana. Hell, Miami and Nebraska shouldn't have beaten them either.se-alum;975890 wrote:Sure there's a difference, Tressel never had to face the obstacles that Fickell has had to deal with. I don't like the thought of firing a guy that has invested 10yrs and been a big part of the teams success, over a season that he's had very little control over.
I never said fire Fickell. But I do believe he should be fired as head coach. He is an interim coach on a one year contract. They can hire someone with experience and put Fickell back in his old position. -
2kool4skoolMeyer has had success everywhere he's ever been, and his resume surpasses all but maybe a couple currently working coaches. If you have an opportunity to get a guy like that, you do. Maybe Fickell will turn into a good head coach, but it would be silly to roll the dice if you had an opportunity at as close to a sure thing as you can get in the CFB coaching world.

Precisely. Do you roll the dice with Fickell and hope he can get the program to where it should be? What if he ruins the program ala Rich Rod at Michigan? Urban Meyer is a proven coach everywhere he has been.2kool4skool;976813 wrote:Meyer has had success everywhere he's ever been, and his resume surpasses all but maybe a couple currently working coaches. Luke Fickell is no victim here. He was paid 750K to do a job he wouldn't have sniffed under normal circumstances. I think he will live.
If Urban Meyer to OSU happens it will be fun to watch. Right now there is a VERY good chance it happens. -

Not a prediction---just a statement of where things are---right now---today----up to the minute. Could they change? anything is possible in this world---but I feel good enough about the info to put the "=====" on it, so that should tell you how strongly I feel about the quality of the info.
