More Disappointing Exit: Woody Hayes or Joe Paterno?

This I don't get. I agree that Joe Pa needed fired. He was told in detail what McQueary saw (unless the GJ report is false) and he was prompltly fired for not doing enough. Yet McQueary actually sees this happen and does just as little yet he's being kept on. McQueary needs to go now.

Most people down the road will lump them together as both being coaching legends that had one massive fuckup cost them their jobs.

Only the 2 fanbases in question will give enough of a shit to break it down any further.

I agree to an extent, McQ should have confronted him, (Sandusky) immediately, and got the kid out of harms at that immediate time, why he didn't, who knows. Joe on the other hand allowed this man to remain on campus, allowed him, for a while at least to continue to bring young boys around. Don't get me wrong, this situation was handled VERY incorrectly by EVERYONE, but Joe was bigger than ANYONE on that campus.

So let me get this straight.

Joe Paterno (according to his grand jury testimony) is told that something happened that was upsetting to McQueary, but never is informed of the seriousness nor the heinous nature surrounding the actual scene that McQueary walked in on (again, that is according to Paterno's testimony). He goes to the proper authorities and reports McQueary's watered-down story. Those proper authorities being the athletic director and president of Penn State University. The all-is-clear is given. Joe Paterno has no reason to think that criminal activity is being covered up by respected leaders of the campus and goes back to business as usual, believing that the university has covered its bases. Should Joe have done more? Why should he? The proper authorities, whom Paterno likely greatly regarded, said there is nothing to see. All is clear. And besides, Paterno is never told the true details anyhow.

The winningest coach of all-time and face of the university is later fired via text message. (Basically.)

Mike McQueary, 28 years old, walks into a shower and says he sees a senior citizen entering a child from behind. Nobody has any clothes on. He goes home and has dinner for another nine years.

The redheaded assistant coach tosses passes to Nittony Lions today and will coach against Nebraska on Saturday.

Yes, there is nothing going on under the table here. Mark it down. Some of the men on the Board of Trustrees who sat in cowardice late last night as an American icon was suspended from a symbolic rope, are going down. This is only going to get more horrific.

Using your logic, those two did what they were supposed and notified their superiors, right?
No, the Janitor told a co-woker not his superior and neither ever reported it. Coach McQeary witnessed a 12 yr old being raped with his own 2 eyes walked away, went home and called his Dad and told Paterno the next day. In both instances they chose to really do nothing as eye witnesses. At the bare minimum McQeary could have called police authorities from his cell phone while he stood there and watched.

Up until the last couple of days, the words Joe Paterno and American Icon, are words I could see myself using, not anymore.

Lou Holtz is a thing that causes people amusement or laughter. That is it. He needs to STFU. In 20 years, nobody will remember you, Lou.

He's not THE victim, but he is someone who is unfairly be vilified for his supposed inaction of KNOWING that a child was raped. The truth will come out in a due time; my hope is that its not too late to save the legacy of a great man.

LOL, yeah no one will remember Holtz. SMH, he's only a HOF coach.

Have you re-read the GJ testimony yet to see that your janitor account is wrong?

He knew it was of a sexual nature. He admitted to this. Why are you lying on an anonymous internet board? Are you related to Paterno?

Lying? How is he lying? Paterno's testimony clearly says something of a sexual nature was what was convened to him not the act of rape. Do you know how many things could be considered "of sexual nature"

Exactly, did you see the word "sexual" in the post?

    I'll repeat it:

""Joe Paterno (according to his grand jury testimony) is told that something happened that was upsetting to McQueary, but never is informed of the seriousness nor the heinous nature surrounding the actual scene that McQueary walked in on (again, that is according to Paterno's testimony)""

Do you see the word "sexual" or any connotation of the word? According to bootlicker here Paterno wasn't informed of anything sexual, contrary to his own testimony - hence he's lying.

Before you cannonize Saint Lou, you should check his history. Holtz has a great feel when to make his exit....just ahead of the investigations.
  • Tobias Fünke
    Paterno. Not even close.
  • HitsRus
Definitely Paterno. The guy had a squeaky clean, grandfather image. ...saintlike. No more.

Woody was far from a saint and never had that image. That he punched a player, while disappointing, probably didn't shock many people. He had a history of a temper, and the later years of his coaching career were markedly more erratic. In short....Paterno had a much greater fall.

Have you re-read any of your idiotic posts? I made my post in jest to your idiotic apoligetic JoePa posts and you treat it like gospel. You have nothing. You are okay with kids getting raped, just like JoePa was. We get it, you don't care about protecting children.

LOL, seriously? Yeah, I am cannonizing Holtz by saying he is a HOF coach and will not be forgotten in 20 years. STFU

    I agree with him.

Yeah, I am cannonizing Holtz by saying he is a HOF coach and will not be forgotten in 20 years.
Sorry. You are right. Holtz was a great coach. But as far as coaching programs go...he is the dirtiest of all time, having four of his programs hit with major NCAA sanctions under his watch.( for that alone, he won't be forgotten). My point was simply that Holtz does not deserve as much adoration as some give him. As far as I am concerned his opinions have little credibility where wrongdoing is concerned.

Paterno is not a great man. He's a coward that tried to protect (in this order) himself, a pervert buddy, a football program, a university instead of standing up for a child..."I should have done more..." the coward's own words sign his indictment.

Woody Hayes was a champion that didn't take the easy way out. Done. Signed. Sealed. Delivered.

The public flogging we've seen of an American hero this week is one of the saddest chapters in our nation's sporting history. I've never seen such a mockery in my entire life.

Long live the legend of Joe "Pa" Paterno, one of the truly great people to ever walk this earth. An extraordinary man.
    GTFO!

So there are different levels at which the cops should be called. "Well, he was only giving the 10 year old a blowjob, so I didn't call the cops."

Fuck! What is wrong with you people?

I can't believe anyone would even compare this to what Woody did. Its not even close, shouldn't even be a discussion. Woody "snapped" spontaniously for a moment. Joe Pa deliberately made a conscious decision not to do something. Then continued to let Sandusky around the football program. Not condoning what Woody did, but there is a HUGE difference here that isn't even close.
