John Simon

No. Never said that at all. I think he should stay because I think he won't play at the next level so why not enjoy another year of college football where he's basically worshiped like a god.

    Will he get draft? Sure.

Will he play at all when he's drafted? Sure.

Will he have a 2-3 NFL yr career? More than likely.

Will he sniff 6-8 years of an NFL career? Ehh.... perhaps he'll be on a roster, but I don't see him playing much by then, if at all (I hope I'm wrong, however).

Stay... get his degree... live another year of the golden life... he'll be drafted no matter what, even after another year... I'm sure he'll sign a nice contract and make more money in one year than I ever will in one year, but I just fear he is too small for DT and too slow for DE.

    I already did, didn't I?

Plus, I never said he WOULDN'T play DT (or even that he would), I simply stated I don't see him translating to the next level, and therefore highly doubt he will be a top 15 pick, let alone top 5 [like you hinted at with your proposition].

LJ;938512 wrote:Once again, why does everyone keep talking about him as a DT when he is clearly a 3 technique kinda player?

think Cam Heyward. Simon is just a bit smaller and just a bit stronger than Heyward. He plays inside and outside on the line just like Heyward did. He fits the 3 technique perfectly....

Or does no one understand what I am talking about? 3 technique is a 3-4 DE
IMO, Heyward was/is better suited, and look what he's doing / facing.

I just don't see a place for Simon at the next level. Again, I HOPE I'm wrong.

Of course it's my opinion. But I also think you'll find that the NFL scouts tend to agree, and I think this will become evident when we see Simon taken later than some on here are thinking (i.e., top 5 pick, or even top 15).

I'm not saying he isn't going to get drafted, because he will. He's had too good of a college career to NOT get drafted. Someone will surely draft him on what he's purely done, alone. The question is... will it translate to the next level, and IMO, I don't think it will.

I think Simon is a HELLUVA college ball player, but his size and speed just do not translate over very well to the next level. He's too small to be a NFL DT and he's too slow to be a NFL DE.

Is a 4.7 forty too slow for NFL DE?

I doubt he runs that. But even if he did, he just looks too stiff. I'm really surprised by the differing opinions on Simon. Some think he's a first rounder and others question his fit in the NFL.

I do think he will make a roster, but he does seem like sort of a tweener. And LJ is correct in that he will have to play a DT in a 3-4 defense. I don't see him dropping into coverage in the NFL.

I personally think Hankins has better feet and quickness than Simon.

I used to think Sleeper and Cats Gone Wild were the biggest d-bags on this site, but I'm positive it's you. The worst of it is... you're probably some scrawny little shit. I'd love to lay a beat down on your candy ass. Fucking retard. That's probably you in your stupid avatar pic too, isn't it? Mongoloid.

John Simon is a great college player, I think all agree on that. The difference in opinion is how he projects to the next level. I think he will have a good career in the NFL but not as a Tackle, most NFL DT are 300+ Lbs. Cam Heyward is a 3-4 inches taller than Simon and at least 30 lbs. heavier although I would consider Simon his equal at least at the college level. Where he ends up playing is a guess for all of us who aren't NFL talent scouts but I would guess DE for all the reasons earlier stated. Nathan Williams is another tweener on the Buckeyes defense (if his injury doesn't end his career all together) He probably will have to switch to LB or play the rush DE just on passing downs. Has there been any talk of him getting a medical redshirt?

For what it's worth, he's only NFLdraftscout's #9 rated defensive end for the 2013 class. That's a single year of a single position, and he isn't ranked in the top 5 there. DraftTek has him ranked as the #21 4-3 DT, and #245 as an overall prospect (for all players eligible for the 2012 draft).

He isn't considered a big time NFL prospect by many people.

That's 8th round, I think he is a little better than that, but I suppose his lack of size scares some NFL teams. If that is where he projects then he would be wise to stay in school for his senior year. Those services miss on quite a few players, the guy has a great motor and plays with a lot of heart, you can't measure that.

Heyward was 3" taller and 18 lbs heavier than Simon going into his Sr year

Williams is smallish, 245-250 I believe, he will most definitely be converted to LB

I think they mentioned applying, yes

He ran a 4.7 in high school. I seriously doubt he's gotten slower since then.

A 4.7 40 makes him a pretty good looking rush end out of any defense. The problem with him in a 3-4 is that he is too small as a Nose and 3-4 DEs are being asked to drop into zone coverage a lot in the day and age due to zone blitzes. Id see him as a 3 tech DT in a 4-3 or even a DE on passing downs.

Wisconsin figured out how to slow Simon a bit. Just grab and hold on for dear life. Simon, Hank, and Bellamy were being held all night. It was painfully obvious on the first Wisky TD pass.
