College Basketball Random Chatter

Yeah 9 is an impressive number, but when you look at who they were against, it's anything but impressive.

And WVU, just got BOMBED. They have lost 7 of 12. They still host Marquette and at South Florida. They are in BIG trouble. Right now, I'd say they are out because of what they have done and what lies ahead. Prediction is they finish 18-13, 8-10, they would finish 10th in the Big East and have to play on Tuesday (against Providence or DePaul) and then would draw Cincinnati or Louisville on Wednesday.

I get that Cuse have a great defense, but does USF have any sort of offense? lol

    They're just dribbling around
  • Azubuike24
VCU holds on over UNCW and Drexel also wins
St. Joe's, LaSalle and George Mason in very late battles
Looks like USF is going to go down
  • Mulva
St. Joseph's lost at home to Richmond. They're probably done. I guess beating Temple and making the A-10 final could potentially do it.

Another unimpressive win for Syracuse. I just don't see it from them.

    LaSalle and Temple in OT
George Mason and Northeastern in OT
LSU up 8 on Georgia early 2nd half
  • SportsAndLady
Elijah Johnson has 15 points halfway through the first half...but ya it's against A&M
  • Azubuike24
Mason was the weakest of the 3 top teams in the Colonial. Losing to Northeastern knocks them down below VCU and Drexel even further. Likely have to win the CAA or make the finals at worst to have any shot.

Certainly not an impressive win but they were down big early and didn't get rattled. Went on a 26-0 run at one point. Just continuing to find ways to win even when they're not playing their best. There's something to be said for that IMO.
  • Mulva
Memphis beats East Carolina, but UCF is down to Rice with 90 seconds to go and Southern Miss is in OT against UTEP. USM can't afford another bad conference loss.

Add Minnesota to the list of teams that are officially done. 5-10 in conference now, still have to go to Wisconsin.
  • Mulva
USM loses. They're an interesting case.

9 RPI top 100 wins, 2 top 50. But when you look at the teams, it's Memphis, Colorado State, USF, Marshall, UCF (twice), New Mexico State (twice), and Ole Miss.

They have 3 losses to >100 RPI teams now, and Denver is almost a 4th.

KU going for 8 conf. titles in the last 8 seasons

To put that in a better perspective:

KSU has 8 titles in the last 51 years (none in last 35 years)
MU has 8 titles in the last 72 years (none in last 18 years)
Texas has 8 titles in the last 34 years
Ou has 8 titles in the last 65 years
OSU has 8 titles in the last 76 years
ISU has 6 titles in 102 years
Tech has 8 titles in last 67 years
aTm has 8 titles in last 90 years
Baylor has 5 titles in 105 years

UK has 8 titles in last 17 years
UNC has 8 titles in last 24 years
Duke has 8 titles in last 18 years
UCLA has 8 titles in last 29 years
Indiana has 8 titles in last 36 years

Impressive. But the big 12 has sort of been weak for a while right? I'm not being a dick. Just an observation.

I don't think its been weak at all actually, and I know you weren't trying to be a dick. They just have trouble as a conference when it comes to getting to Final Fours. There hasn't been a Big 12 team in the FF since '04 not including KU's title team in '08. But they're usually at the top when you count how many teams from each conf. in the sweet sixteen and elite eight.

They've consistently been a top 4 conference, w/ some of those years being a top 2 conference. They've just never really been the best conference in the country over that time.

But they've had some really good teams and players that's for sure.

Duke at Florida State has major implications on the ACC and NCAA seeding.

Alabama travels to Arkansas (who is nearly unbeatable at home and awful away from BWA), the Tide HAVE to win. Helps that JaMychal Green is back.

Louisville goes to Cincinnati. With a win, the Bearcats are a lock to make the NCAA's looking ahead.

BYU plays at Gonzaga, both are still hoping for the WCC title.

Some decent TV games tonight, despite the overall schedule not being great.

    Florida State is so bad

Is it OK to say that St. Mary is not only a bracket buster, but maybe Elite 8?
  • SportsAndLady
Hey Florida State, you may want to hit a clutch 3 once in this game

    Signed,

Kansas, Michigan State, Missouri and all the other 1 seed candidates
  • Mulva
Alabama gets the big road win. They probably still need to finish 2-1 to feel safe, but the schedule is favorable.

The SEC, where winning @ Arkansas is considered "big"

    :D
  • Little Danny
Cincinnati leading Louisville at the half, 32-30.
  • wildcats20
Cincy now up 9 with 3 min left.

This would be a very nice win for the Cats.
  • Azubuike24
Arkansas is pretty tough at home. Very similar to Missouri 2 years ago. Lots of young talent, playing without their best player. They are definitely on the rise next year and the year after.
  • Little Danny
Cincinnati pulls out the victory, 60-56. UC now 20-8, 10-5 in the Big East. They are tied fourth with USF. UC plays the Bulls in Tampa on Sunday.
  • Azubuike24
UC has really turned it around since their struggles early. They are now playing to try to get off the 8/9 line. Win 2 of their final 3 and I think they can get to the 5-6 range if they don't get bounced on Wednesday of the BET.
