Mizery turns down the SEC to stay in Big 12
-
Speedofsandstay tuned for more Mizzou to the SEC rumors. I saw it on twitter.
-
MulvaLouisville would be a better get than Missouri in my opinion. But apparently Kentucky is not about that.
-
Manhattan BuckeyeWhat does L'ville bring?
A commuter school, granted with a heavy donor in the PaPa John's guy, but that is it. Terrible academics, terrible sports aside from b'ball and f'ball, and even then they aren't great.
Mizzou is the flagship university of a large state with two tv locales. Mizzou way above L'ville for that alone. -
Little DannyI don't think the quesiton is Louisville over Missouri. The question is who would be a good addition to the B12. Louisville makes sense from a geographical perspective. Kentucky borders Missouri.
I took this from one of their boards. Also, I could not find the link but I have seen repeatedly Lousville is #21 in athletic revenue in all of college sports. Their basketball is the most profitable in the country.
Well I'll try and make the case for Louisville.....
Basketball
-Ranked by the Sporting News as one of the top 7 programs of all time
-2 National Titles (1980 & 1986)
-8 Final Four Appearances
-35 NCAA Tournament Appearances
-Home games are always a sellout
-Most profitable basketball program in the country
-Brand new Basketball Arena (22K seats)
Football
-2006 Big East Champions
-2007 Orange Bowl Champions
-15 Bowl appearances
-1991 Fiesta Bowl Champions (defeated Alabama 34-7)
-1993 Liberty Bowl Champions (defeated Michigan State 18-7)
-Finish ranked in the top 5 for the 2006 season
-Brand new stadium expansion (Stadiums now seats 55K)
-Legendary Johnny Unitas played at Louisville
Women's Basketball
-Played in the National Championship game against UConn in 2009
-Ranked in the 3 in women's basketball attendance
-Will be ranked very high preseason this upcoming season
-Head coach Jeff Walz is reeling in top 10 recruiting classes
College Baseball
-Has an excellent head coach in Dan McDonnell who came from Ole Miss
-Louisville appeared in the 2007 College World Series
-Gets great crowds at Jim Patterson Stadium (which will soon be expanded)
Other tidbits
-Men's Soccer played in the National Title game last season and is ranked #3 right now
-Softball has made 9 straight NCAA Tournament appearances
-Women's Volleyball has a very strong program that is usually always in the NCAA Tournament
Here is a link to all of our facilities. Most are brand new

Manhattan BuckeyeNo offense Little Danny, but that is terrible aside from men's basketball.

I am not an Louisville guy, I am just stating what their fans beleive they offer. Louisville looks to be a serious candidate for the B12. The B12 is not as exclusive in their membership as the B1G, PAC12 or the ACC. You don't have to be a public ivy or a private school with top notch academics to join. The conference already has Kansas State and Oklahoma State which are not great academic programs. Most of the schools in the B12 are out in the middle of nowhere (Manhatten, KS, Waco, TX, Stillwater, OK).Manhattan Buckeye;915523 wrote:No offense Little Danny, but that is terrible aside from men's basketball. -

No doubt. Especially since it is mostly about football and the highlights are: 1) we were ranked in the top 5 once.....literally, once; 2) of our three BIG bowl wins, one was the Liberty Bowl.......almost 20 years ago; 3) we had a GREAT QB.....50+ years ago; and 4) our stadium has finally separated itself from Vanderbilt-like capacity.Manhattan Buckeye;915523 wrote:No offense Little Danny, but that is terrible aside from men's basketball.
Please.
EDIT: LD - I know that was posted in reference to the Big XII, which I agree would be a decent pick up for them. But using the selling points you listed (as Louisville sees themselves), I can't understand the previous post about how Louisville would be a good pick up for the SEC. -
Little Danny^^ Oh-- I agree with you an MB that Louisville likely has no shot for the SEC.
-
dlazzLouisville isn't a big enough name for the B12.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Missouri has taken another step toward leaving the Big 12 Conference and there is interest in the SEC in taking the Tigers.
http://www.columbiatribune.com/news/2011/oct/21/mu-takes-another-step-toward-leaving-big-12/?tigerextra
"We delegated to the chancellor the authority to make decisions including entering into contracts on conference alignment," Erdman said, "so that he can take that action without any further action by the Board of Curators. I think that’s a significant step." -
SportsAndLadyMissouri plans on leaving the B1G for the SEC today

I never knew Missouri was even in the B1G... man that must have been a short-term deal.SportsAndLady;943324 wrote:Missouri plans on leaving the B1G for the SEC today
Is this another case of you not knowing what something means (Ex. Mike, Sam and Will). -
Manhattan Buckeye^^^
Rutgers/UConn need to jump on the ACC bandwagon. -

It's called a mistake..sorry you never made one beforeFly4Fun;943329 wrote:I never knew Missouri was even in the B1G... man that must have been a short-term deal.

Haven't they been trying?Manhattan Buckeye;943330 wrote:^^^

General question - who misses the boat if Mizzou splits and the Big XII expands? If the Big XII goes back to 12, the teams that seem to be in the mix are BYU, Louisville, West Virginia, and Cincy. If the ACC rescues UConn and Rutgers, does that send South Florida (and Cincy?) back to non-AQ status (CUSA?)? -
Manhattan BuckeyeLikely, no one cares about Central/South Florida, they are directional commuter schools that don't get the UF/FSU/UM tv market. The Big East holdouts need to lick some Big 12 boot.
-
jordo212000WVU and Louisville probably get invites to the Big 12, Big East replaces them with Boise, UCF, Navy, etc.
It'll be interesting to see where Houston lands? Maybe in the Big East as well? -
dlazz
Probably not. Big East to ACC is a push, IMO.enigmaax;943337 wrote:Haven't they been trying? -

Maybe, but UConn and Rutgers both made it publically known that they want in the ACC. ACC hasn't really cared, apparently.dlazz;943660 wrote:Probably not. Big East to ACC is a push, IMO.
A couple takes supposedly from insiders on the Big XII's next move once Missouri bolts.
http://eye-on-collegefootball.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/24156338/32915206
“West Virginia has better football than Missouri, better basketball than Missouri, a better budget than Missouri and more passion among its fans than Missouri. They’re better, anyway you turn ‘em. The travel’s not good but that’s it.”“The only place where there’s an advantage for West Virginia is better football,” the second official said. “Their academics is not as strong. If there’s any thought about what’s best for the student-athlete, we’ll go with Louisville.” -

Maybe I'm wrong on this..and if I am then LOLfail on me..but shouldn't it be 'their academics ARE not as strong'...I mean, if that's wrong, and that guy made a public statement bashing someone's academics while making a grammatical error in the process, then that's just funny.Their academics is not as strong -

Yes, noticed that. Little DannyThey are now talks that MU plans on staying in the B12 afterall. They did not put in their notice as expected today.

ESPN currently gives a lot more TV money to members of the ACC. The ACC is now negotiating a bigger pay raise after acquiring Pitt and Syracuse from the Big East.dlazz;943660 wrote:Probably not. Big East to ACC is a push, IMO. -

Missouri has done this before. It is their "move" -
enigmaaxDon't care if they go to the SEC, but would absolutely love to hear the, "we've done our homework and we're going to stay in the Big XII" announcement. As in, we just got bitchslapped again thinking we were a hot commodity but we're going to do some Oklahoma PR to pretend like we're important.
