    Off topic, and no real point but just an observation, this reminded me that I read about the Boise State sanctions today. One part of the LOIC stance was that the athletes were not properly educated on the rules. The whole reason the OSU players last year were allowed to play in the bowl game was because they were not appropriately educated on the rules. I've seen some posts about the hypocrisy of the NCAA, so is the fact that the NCAA bought that excuse but then didn't hold it against OSU in the same manner they did against Boise State another example of that hypocrisy?

    Yes, seeing as how a lot of the infractions were recruits passing out at parties and getting $2 cheeseburgers

    Not sure what you mean there. The NCAA hasn't penalized them for playing in the Sugar Bowl have they? Although, considering the coach was sitting on information that would've changed the decision, I don't know how that would be wrong if it happened.

    One difference is the fact that the Boise State problems were across multiple programs, not just football. Alot of people seem to leave out that fact when comparing OSU to USC or Boise.

    The excuse that it was for travel expenses is valid, as charities are allowed to reimburse for such. The charity can write off $.14 per mile, but $.51 would probably be acceptable. About 136 miles each way, so ~$138 of just IRS rate reimbursement.

    NOW, OSU does specifiy to ALL charities that they MUST give the reimbursement directly to compliance, then compliance will handle it from there. This situation is exactly why. It's also said that most of the time OSU will just say screw it and make a school employee or a coach take the players in a university vehicle so that they don't have to deal with it.

    Agreed and I do not believe OSU should have gotten LOIC. It is still funny that "lack of education" was specifically cited by the NCAA as a reason to benefit Ohio State (that is why they allowed the players to play in the bowl game) and then everyone just kind of moves on with the "rogue" player/coach line. But that lack of education elsewhere indicates a problem with the school.

    yep. if you can't trust the boosters or players to follow the rules (or know the rules even). then you do everything as a proxy that way if and when something like the tattoo deal comes up you can point the figer at everyone involved and say "without a doubt it was them. they're gone."

    Many OSU reporters are tearing him apart on twitter right now. For one, Miller was dressed and on the sideline. Suspended players could not be in the stadium. And two, the NCAA letter detailing the investigation was dated September 1st, before the Akron game. Miller obviously played.

    Nowhere in anything does it say Braxton or Williams were suspended.

    Ok. So why would Miller play vs. Akron and not Toledo? The letter you linked is dated Sept 1st.

    Because the letter only says 3 players took money. Those 3 players were the guys suspended for the Akron game. The NCAA came back at OSU on Friday before the Toledo came and told them that those 3 were not able to play that game as well. My guess is they had more to say than just that.

    The five "current" student athletes referenced in letter are believed to be Hall, Brown, Howard, Pryor and Newsome. The two "former" student athletes are believed to be Troy Smith and Ted Ginn. Obviously, I don't know this information first-hand. I got this from reading tweets of other OSU reporters tonight.

    Btw, Brooks is the same guy who said Delaney was discussing a TV ban for OSU and also that he had copies of checks made to Pryor from Talbott. He operates a gossip website.

    Hooley is acting desperate. Never liked him but I thought he was screwed over. Now I don't care either way.

    If Miller was indeed at the dinner I think it would be pretty easy to verify, as there were a hundred other people in the room. The Miller rumors just seem dumb.
