Hall, Brown, Howard Suspended

• thedynasty1998
Saw this morning that these 3 won't be cleared to play until OSU talks to the NCAA. There has to be more to this story.

They had the guy from the Plain Dealer (forget his name) who covers the Buckeyes on 610 this afternoon. He spoke with the founders of the charity and they are absolutely appalled at all of this going on. They said they had no clue that the players were given any money and that the redacted name is no one with the charity. Also, it was mentioned that if they went, even as a charity appearance, they are allowed to receive the standard meal being served and gas money from the event sponsors. This is for 501(C) charities ONLY.

Glad to hear they have been reinstated!

How so? OSU talked with the NCAA.

Glad they're back. Hall, especially, is needed because his vision out of the backfield is far, far better than either back we've got available now.

It's ridiculous it ended up the way it did. Just another black mark against Gene Smith. I can only hope they shit can him before he has any chance of being involved in a new football coach search, assuming it happens (which I think it will).

I also want the name of the person who gave the money publicized so that person can be ostracized for his blatant stupidity.

I'm ok with the name not being mentioned. As much as we all love OSU football, it's still football, and it's not worth someone getting death threats and possibly being physically harmed over.

At the very least it will not make us rely on Smith in a pressure situation. I think he will eventually be a great player but the kid need to learn that you just can't put the ball on the ground.

With the whole "theres got to be more than what we are hearing" conspiracies that he always throws out.

Well apparently the investigation is ongoing per the NCAA so it seems there might be more to it.

Wait so they were reinstated but the investigation is still going on? (honest question..I didn't read up on the story)

The NCAA's statement ends on this well-known, but still ominous note (emphasis ours):
Reinstatement decisions are independent of the NCAA enforcement process and typically are made once the facts of the student-athlete’s involvement are determined. This is typically well in advance of infractions decisions. The enforcement investigation into the Ohio State University is ongoing.
In other words, this situation isn't fully resolved in the NCAA's eyes, but at the very least the three players involved can get back on the field.

That doesn't necessarily mean anything more will come of it, just that its not over with at this point.

I doubt OSU would reinstate them if there was any threat of further punishment..they already made that mistake lol

I think its probably for the OSU side of things, like did they possibly know this was going on or didn't do their due diligence in checking out the event.

The NCAA reinstated them. Read the link I posted and it says why.

Be mad at the players. They are the real dopes in all of this.

I'll be mad at both. People who knowingly contribute to getting players suspended are trash. Let their names be known and let them face some consequences. And no, I'm not saying the players aren't mostly responsible. These young people don't need more temptation thrown at them by idiot jock sniffers.

As for the on-going part of the investigation: I'm betting it has to do with whoever gave the money. Perhaps some procedure they go through to deal with "rogue" boosters.

Again.

I think the concern Ohio State might have is how whether or not this will reflect on the school considering they just had a hearing on infractions of a similar nature (athletes being paid). Just like in the Miami case, some players have served their penalties, which doesn't mean that the school has nothing left to worry about. So, it isn't like OSU is going to forfeit games that these guys play in going forward, but there may be some accountability from the school for why it happened in the first place.

At the least, you've got to wonder how in the heck this could happen with all the attention on they've had recently. Doesn't mean anything else will come of it, but it also doesn't necessarily mean it is a dead issue.

From what I have read they will most likely treat it as a "rogue player" scenario. Apparently all 3 have admitted that they understand the compliance regulations and that they should have cleared it through compliance.
• karen lotz
How many times can they use the rogue player or coach theory though?
