NCAA Finds No New Violations in OSU Case: Will Not Charge Failure to Monitor or LOIC

I still laugh at everyone pretty much writing off Fickell and his staff.

Nobody has explained why the NCAA is allowing 4 of the 5 non-amateur players to come back to the team. Under NCAA bylaws, those four players (and Pryor) had forfeited their amateur status by selling items pertaining to college football while they are still playing.

And to those that think Michigan has a chance, hell Brady Hoke will have the gameplan set for Ohio, not OSU. ;)

You never know, OSU may get a coach (perhaps Fickell) that is even better than Tressel (or just as good). Be carefull what you wish for.

I'm not writing him off quite yet. I'd like to see what he is capable of after all, Tressel was a "nobody" when he showed up at OSU.

They may, but its doubtful. I mean does the signing of a small name coach by UM(Hoke) worry you in the least bit really?

Tressel won 4 national championships before coming to OSU. I don't care if it was I-AA, he certainly had more of a track record than Fickell does now.

Nothing that I didn't expect to see. I have predicted this for the longest time and got a lot of shit for it. OSU will win the National Championship, and Michigan/ND/Florida/LSU fans will watch it all happen on TV.

why does anybody half to explain it? AJ Green was suspended 3-4 games for selling his jersey to an agent.

Not really, but only because the Ohio State program is in such good shape. Conversely, UM's is not, so any hire at OSU should worry Michigan fans IMO.

Note that I had "nobody" in parantheses. Many viewed Tressel as a bad hire, despite all the success he had at YSU.

I am hoping that Fickell will be like some other former Tressel assistants that have moved on to the HC job and had success like Dantonio at UC and MSU and Beckman at Toledo. Maybe Fickell will be the next one?

A step down from Tress(which is almost for sure what Fickell will be) doesnt worry UM fans....we view it as a good thing

Tress took OSU and put it over the top. The question now becomes: will Fickell be able to build on that success?

I think he can. He's a younger coach who can recruit with the best of them. That alone will put him atop the big 10 every year.

Heard on ESPN Radio tonight and they mentioned this - After August 12th, if the NCAA decides to accept OSU's punishment and move on, should Ohio State rehire Jim Tressel? I forgot who was talking, but he said he read on "The Onion" where this was brought up and that they were certainly joking. What would the critics say then?
  • karen lotz
lol, do you know what The Onion is?

I'll bet you everything I own sleeper that OSU doesn't even come close to the National Championship Game

It's been asked by legitimate sources though. I don't think they'd do it. Talk about creating some bad PR.

Yes, I know what The Onion is. The point is that they were joking but he, however, was not.

Though OSU might be tempted to re-hire Tress, not only would it be bad PR, the NCAA would definitely crawl into the inner workings of the OSU athletic department and give it a giant enema.

A step down from Tress would still be one of the top coaches in the country and certainly capable of beating a lower to mid tier Big Ten team (which is what Michigan currently is).
  • se-alum
This could be the best recruiting staff that OSU has ever had w/ Fickell, Vrabel, Drayton, and Haynes.

You think Fickell is one of the top coaches in the country even before hes coached a game? O.o

Well yeah. He is THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY's head football coach. That alone makes him top 2 if not the outright #1.

What makes each of those guys better recruiters than Tressel?

And how quickly we forget how well Cooper recruited.

Never stated that any one of those guys was better than Tressel.
