UC's Brian Kelly to interview with Notre Dame on Tuesday

  • Al Capone
Lou Holtz said on espn today that he thinks his son should get a shot.
  • justincredible
Ok, that last part isn't true.

This isn't fake, things are heating up:

I think it's a done deal. To me, what Kelly has done on the field is enough of an interview. If I'm ND I'm doing anything I can to hire him.
  • thedynasty1998
I agree. Everyone knows his resume, and just from interviews I've heard of him, I think he's a bright guy.

All that is left is the money part.

I will say this, part of the reason I hated Notre Dame so much is because of Weis. If they get Kelly, I will be cheering them on every week.

I'm in the same boat. Hated Weis/Notre Dame, but I really like Kelly and I've followed him since he was at GV State and believed he was one of the next big things.

Don't worry you have your coach, don't need any sources like some to believe it.

I should have quoted, but I was answering a post saying that Notre Dame has been going from coach to coach to coach and will continue to do so.

    gotcha'--makes sense!!!
  • Tiernan
Please hire him so the rest of us can all laugh in 3 years when you fire him.
  • vdubb96
WLW in cincy has been saying all day that he is as good as gone.

I don't think that will happen.

Kelly has won at every stop of the way and he will have better athlete's starting out at ND compared to the other schools.

It will be a good test to develop a good defense at ND though, that will be his only downfall if any.

I've stated that Kelly was a better choice than Stoops, imo it was easy to see that. Meyer was a pipe dream so I don't consider that a choice even if they wanted him.

If he's offered the jump will he pull the same shit he did @ Central and jump ship like he did to coach Cincy in the Bowl Game? Will he take most of that staff with him and leave some interim guy and a staff full of GA's to coach the Sugar Bowl game against a dangerous Florida team? That wouldn't be fair to the university and it wouldn't be fair to the kids.
  • devil1197
If he takes the job I doubt he coaches the Sugar Bowl game. As soon as he is named the head coach he has a lot of work to do at ND with recruiting, team, and staff.

great.... leave those kids hanging out to dry....

It's been done before, it's all business.

What does Kelly have to gain coaching UC in the Sugar Bowl if he accepts the job? What is it going to matter to the UC players, who he told that he was staying.
  • capninsano
It's not always about the kids. What's more important..someone's career or a football game?
  • thedynasty1998
If he accepts the job, he has to go to Notre Dame immediately. UC would find someone to coach the team in the bowl game, but Kelly would have to get to South Bend right away to work on recruits and build rapport with his guys.

I think that's the worst part about Notre Dame not accepting a bowl bid. The new coach could have came in and had 15 practices or whatever to evaluate his guys and to start implementing some of his system.

I agree, i think it's stupid to not play in the bowl game.

wait, as opposed to off-season training?

with a bowl game you have to prepare to play a meaningless game against a meaningless team....

now, notre dame cant concentrate purely on team development instead of game development.

implementing a system is much easily done with no preparation for a opponent within 15 days time.
  • King Curtis
Cincinnati should have fired him if he went through with the interview.

That really worked well for Boston College, oh wait....

The reality is when you're a program like UC you can't just fire the best coach you've ever had, you wait it out hope something falls through.

Who do you implement a new system to? You have to remember that Clausen and Tate were leaving, regardless if Weis was retained or not, Crist is out with a knee and the QB is the biggest piece of the offense. If and when Kelly accepts I think it's in his favor that ND did not accept a bowl bid. He will have ample time to school Crist, Floyd, Allen and company on the offense and hopefully he has a plan for the biggest problem of them all, the defense.

Any time you pass up an opportunity to get 15 practice in it's not the right decision, especially when said team needs all the practice they can get.
