UC's Brian Kelly to interview with Notre Dame on Tuesday
-
The EqualizerScratch Harbaugh. He just said on ESPN that he hasn't spoken to anyone at ND and there is no planned meeting as the NYT reported. Looks like we're down to one option.
-
JU-ICEI heard a radio interview earlier today and the interviewee was talking about how Kelly and possibly his wife have done some work for Pro-Choice groups in the past and this may be a sticking point to him getting the Notre Dame job. It will most certainly be brought up in the interview and could very well play a part in his possible hire.
-
jordo212000Definitely seems as if Kelly is headed to Notre Dame IMO. Especially with the lack of a #2 choice. It seemed like Harbaugh was that guy but both he and his AD say that rumor is false.
By the way, if a political issue like abortion is holding back Notre Dame from giving Kelly their head FOOTBALL coaching position, they deserve many more years of mediocrity. -
3reppomThat twitter account is Brian Kelly's, he did address the team today, if offered the job I wouldn't expect any announcement from either party until the weekend if Kelly keeps to his original timeline.
-
The EqualizerThey invited Obama to speak, I don't think anyone with enough stroke to stop this gives a rat's ass about a pro choice football coach
-
centralbucksfanTHis could be interesting. Kelly seems like a guy who likes to have total control. I could see him saying "no" if he doesn't get what he wants.
-
newarkcatholicfanKelly has won at every level he has been at but I am guessing that he has not coached at a place that is as hard to get student athletes into and couple that with the fact that if he takes this job he has lost his two biggest weapons and even with what is in my opinion a watered down schedule he will be lucky to finish .500 next season.
Can he turn things around at Notre Dame? Most likely but will he be given enough time to?
I think he will need at least four to five years and that might not be enough time taking into consideration where they are now and how difficult it is getting student athletes into. -
rock_knutneI have to laugh at some of these posts. Yeah, Clausen and Tate are gone but Dayne Crist and Michael Floyd aren't exactly chopped liver. They have depth at Oline, running back and WR. They have a stud in Manti Te'o that Kelly can build the defense around. The program is much better shape now than what Weis was handed five years ago, there's players there to sustain ND for at least three years and by that time, I'd like to think that a charismatic personality like Kelly would have hauled in a couple of great recruiting classes.

Maybe, maybe not. Still think there are a lot questions with the "amount" of talent that ND supposedly has.rock_knutne wrote: I have to laugh at some of these posts. Crist hasn't stepped on the field yet, and didn't he just blow out his knee as well?
Floyd is a stud, no doubt about that.
The huge question, obviously is on defense. Not much talent at all IMO. Going to take some time to rebuild that side.
No matter how you look it, its another rebuilding process for ND that will take, at the very least, 2-3yrs IMO. -

actually he has played, he blew out his knee in his second game he played this season. he will miss spring ball, but should be ready go next fall.Maybe, maybe not. Still think there are a lot questions with the "amount" of talent that ND supposedly has.

yeah, te'o is no talent,he was just the top rated lb in the country last year for shits and giggles. and the 3 4star dbs and corners from the 2008 recruiting class also are garbage. plain terrible.
it might take more than a year to *rebuild*, however, the talent is there, and anyone with any clue about notre dame football realizes this. -
rrfanFunny thing is he is going to be coaching in a BCS game this year...if he leaves for ND it will probably be his last. I know money talkes but I for one would not want to coach at ND. They also would not want me. Lol.

ND has some highly rated guys there right now. For the little playing time Crist has had, he's looked very good and I'd like to think that Kelly could get the most from him. Unless Crist has a set back, his knee should be a non issue when week one comes around. As for the defense, the Dline lacks talent, I won't deny that at all but there's some good linebackers and defensive backs in place. I don't think this will be as hard of a rebuilding process as some think, if Kelly's hired they'll be competitive.centralbucksfan wrote:Maybe, maybe not. Crist was in for several snaps against Purdue which was a tight game. He also played most of the 4th quarter vs. Washington State (blowout) and that's how he tore his ACL. So, he definitely stepped on the field. -
CitybuckI thought the ND fans said it was between Stoops or Meyer ?
-
rock_knutne
Myself included, alot of ND fans were wishing for Meyer but that's not in the cards. As for Stoops, there had to have been some serious consideration by him, there were tons of media reports and now it's obvious that Stoops to ND fell through. I've said all along, if ND couldn't get Stoops or Meyer, then Kelly wasn't a bad choice.Citybuck wrote: I thought the ND fans said it was between Stoops or Meyer ? -

Wow, you really are an idiot, aren't you? Seriously, chill out. I watched ND quite a bit this year...if there is so much talent, it all must have been on the bench defensively. The coaching, obviously not good, could not have been THAT bad. Again, its easy to name off a handful of good players. But Football is about having a lot more then that, along with depth. Thats where I have always questioned "all" this talent ND supposedly has. Until I see differently...I'll continue to question it.rocket31 wrote:

ewok, Crist played about half of the Purdue game and did a helluva job IMO.killer_ewok wrote:Crist was in for several snaps against Purdue which was a tight game. -

Maybe, just maybe, that talent wasn't developed properly and that's why ND is hiring a new head coach? I'll go back to what I've said all along, if these recruits, regardless of what side of the ball they play on, are so bad then why were the majority of them offered scholarships by places like Florida, USC and the like?centralbucksfan wrote:Thats where I have always questioned "all" this talent ND supposedly has. newarkcatholicfanWith the exception of one poster I think both of them coaches were a pipe dream even if they were the number one and two choices. Kelly if they get him has to be the third choice. That does not mean he isn’t good but in the eyes of those at Notre Dame he was the number three guy.
Now if he somehow turns it down, they would have to be satisfying with whomever they get while they try and spin it like the new coach was their guy from the start.
Notre Dame once was a top job now it is a top job in name only with where the program is. I think Kelly could wait a year or two and definitely land a better job as far as getting a job with a team that is more relevant in today’s college football scene.
History is great but history will not bring any victories on the field. -

yeah, for watching "quite a bit" it is mildly ironic you missed crist play...centralbucksfan wrote:

and keep questioning that *notre dame talent*...
the two underclassmen, clausen & tate, (for those scoring at home) who just declared to the nfl draft will be laughing their "no talent" selves all the way to the bank each sunday next season... -

Okay. I watched the whole game but it was a couple months ago and I didn't remember exactly how long he was in the game. I knew that it was quite a bit but wasn't exactly sure, hence the "several"........rock_knutne wrote:

FairwoodKingI said all along that ND would not get their first or second choice. And I doubt if Kelly will take the ND job. It is true that Kelly would get a lot more money at ND, but he will eventually get the money no matter where he goes. He might be using this interview with ND as leverage to get a better deal at UC. He will want more money, he will want a bigger stadium, and he will want all kinds of things. The likelihood is that UC will give them to him.
-
rrfanI just hope Kelly gets this over quick so he can get his team ready and everybody back on track. Put the distraction aside.

Please, your only interest in Brian Kelly is due to the fact the Zach Collaros plays at Cincy. BTW, those first and second choice guys are at big time schools, it doesn't hurt to find out if they had an interest and by most accounts, Bob Stoops did. -

1) UC will not get a stadium comparable to the top teams.FairwoodKing wrote: I said all along that ND would not get their first or second choice. And I doubt if Kelly will take the ND job. 2) UC is trying to get a new offer, but it wont even sniff ND's
