Anyone else change their mind?

  • BigAppleBuckeye
I hate to say this, as I am a Jim Tressel supporter, but I think I may have changed my mind after considering the latest allegations against JT. If these are true, then let's face it, OSU will never again be taken seriously nationally, and this will greatly hinder recruiting with this black mark on our record. So, it pains me to even think this, but it's time for Tress to step down.

What say the rest of you? Anyone else change their mind? When I heard the initial allegations, I was quick to support Tress, but this has gotten past the point of salvaging this mess.

I've been too wrapped up in moving into my new house for the past two weeks, so will someone please be kind enough to fill me in on the latest "allegations?"

He was photographed leaving Charlie Sheen's house late Saturday night.

My apologies for the new thread, but the focus of this was more for Tressel supporters who think a move is necessary. I have already seen the anti-Tressel smack talk, but this is coming from a Tressel fan who thinks its time for a change, thats all.

I like Tress and he is a great coach, but he messed up big time. It might help us with the NCAA if he walks off into the sunset, but I doubt that is going to happen

    What are the new allegations?

I think allegations is the wrong word. Maybe revelations would fit better?
  • queencitybuckeye
Has it been determined that the latest revelations are new news to the NCAA and weren't mentioned in the report. Wasn't the case the last I heard. Has this changed?

If you are refering to forwarding messeges. Gene Smith stopped Tressel when he was asked if he forwarded the email to anyone because it pertained to questions the NCAA asked in their interviews of Tressel. So it should be no news the NCAA unless tressel lied in his interviews. It is most likely not, because this information obtained by the dispatch was probably from a leak at tOSU or the NCAA. Not from a public records request which I think they mentioned they had not been granted yet in the article.
  • Scarlet_Buckeye
Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the new "revelations" are that Tressel forwarded the emails to somebody - a rich guy who served as a "mentor" for Terrelle Pryor.

I'm a huge Tressel supporter. I think he screwed up and he will have some penalty which he deserves. After that I'll be ready to move on.
  • OneBuckeye
    Agree^^

This is non news, because we already knew he forwarded it just not to who. Doesn't change anything. I will wait and see if more comes out.

    agree with both of these

According to 93.7 the fan out of Pittsburgh,Bill Cowher was spotted in Columbus over the weekend.

There is so much crap speculation and innuendo, everything is jumbled in the mix and it's hard to know what is truth and what is allegation. There's blood in the water and the media is in a feeding frenzy. I expect Tressel to take his punishment from the NCAA like a man and move forward. Unless the punishment is for activity that creates the necessity for serious sanctions against the university, there is no need for him to step down.

    There are no latest allegations.

I could deal with it a little better if it wasn't so hypocritical. He writes a book called "the winner's manual" where he rambles on about ethics, honesty, etc, etc, and then, when caught covering up a rules violation, says it's because he was "scared" but not scared enough to keep it from his star player's "mentor" who happens to be a really rich old guy.
  • j_crazy
tressel leaving doesn't accomplish anything IMO.
  • Fab1b
My thoughts will be JT will step down prior to the start of the season. They will go with an interim coach the rest of this year then prior the start of the 2012 season Meyer will be named Head Coach at TOSU. This is just gut feeling I don't want JT to be gone so keep that in mind.

No. Tressel messed up, but he's still one of the cleanest coaches in the country. Don't let the jealous haters convince you that he's any worse.
  • Timber
I have to wait to hear "all" of the information before I change my mind. He has to have a chance to speak about the situation concerning protection of players, TOSU management, emails to who?, NCAA investigations, etc.

I love Tress myself, but I love OSU more! If some of these allegations are true his "squeeky clean personna" on the recruiting trail may be tarnished so much that he must step down for the betterment of the program. But I will not throw that stone until it must be thrown.

    Go Bucks!

Did Gene Smith stop Tressel from answering the question directly before or after he said:

"I probably, or definitely didn't, move forward with this information to anyone simply because in my mind I couldn't think as to who that best would be. With the seriousness of what was discussed in the emails and also the confidentiality component." http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=6257370

If it is true it's big. He would have then claimed to not inform anyone at OSU, or the NCAA, but decided that 'best' person to know would be Pryor's rich mentor? Seriously, take the team colored glasses off for at least a second.

My opinion on him changed. He has def. taken a hit in my book. Now, I don;t think OSU should fire him, but instead suspend him for all of next year.
He messed up and really tarnished the university. He should have to pay for more than 5 games in my view.
OSU is now lumped in with USC, Miami and FSU as dirty programs and that's not right at all.

After Obrien I've never trusted anyone to be as squeaky clean as they seemed. I'm a little surprised, but not shocked.
