Aaron Craft

  • Ankle Breaker
Here we are at just past the halfway point in the season (far less than that in the Big 10) and I sit here wondering how good this kid will be by the time his OSU career ends. I know there are some areas he must work on but Craft is one of the best defenders I've seen. His motor never stops. He is certainly the exception to the rule that a kid from a small, rural school can make it at the highest level of collegiate roundball. What was his graduating class size - something like 65? Just wanted to give props to this young man - a pleasure to watch.

I love watching him play and said almost all the same stuff today discussing him. I'm excited cause I can not forsee him leaving early so it will be nice to have him around for awhile. I was thinking last night. He almost always covers like he's in a full court press and I'm pretty sure they aren't called. He never stops playing defense. Also, when he has the ball he always seems to be watching one step ahead of the play.

Easily my favorite Buckeye on this TEAM. (see what I did there lol)

But for serious, I believe he has the potential to be a very, very good point guard. Love the way he goes all out on defense and his shot is improving.

    exceeding expectations...happy about that

selfishly thinking he'll be a four year guy too

I don't think it would be selfishly thinking, he'll be here for 4.

At first thought you think he is a sure 4 year guy. But I think he will play in the NBA at some point. He has to work on certain things, but he already does so much well. Mike Conley was better as a freshman, but I actually think Craft may have more pro potential.

I don't want to dog the guy, just really don't think he's NBA material. It would be nice for him but...ya know?

Another thing I was talking about the other day. If Craft were black I think people would look at him different. As a white PG people label him a scrapper, which he is. However, if he were black I think people would call him a" player"

I know that is very stereotypical, but I think it's reality.

    Well...yeah

Maybe a little time and some numbers will help shed that pigeon hole he's probably in but his size is a draw back

Matta says, Craft = Stockton. One of the best, can't jump PGs.

To answer the original question. His graduating class approx. 100. Liberty-Benton a bedroom community 1 mile west of I-75 as it passes Findlay.

A funny nugget about Craft. This summer when playing against each other, Conley coined a nickname for (K)Craft, which stuck with his teammates, "cheese".

He has great size for a PG. His size is not a limitation.

I don't know how well he jumps, but he is very athletic. Great quickness, good speed, great lateral movement and a physical body.

Hes gonna be a Chris Kramer type from Purdue. A scrappy 4 year player who excels at defense.

    Just my opinion

Craft will easily be at OSU for 4 years. I don't see him ever playing in the NBA. But he can make a great living playing overseas. He will only continue to get better. What is going to be interesting, is to see how Matta handles next years situation with Shannon Scott coming in. The kid is really good and has stepped up his game this year. He just schooled a Duke recruit last weekend. Matta has gone from not enough gaurds, to having plenty of them. Which is a good problem to have.
BTW, Craft maybe the best defender I have seen at this level. He is exceptional and takes it personal. The pressure he puts on the ball, along with the ability to stay in front of someone is unreal.

JMO, Craft is a better shooter, ball handler, and sees the floor better than Kramer as a Senior

Didn't know what to expect when he signed, but has evolved into my favorite player as well...IMO, as long as he keeps playing with that edge, that "guy from a small town who wasn't highly recruited" chip on his shoulder, he's going to have a terrific career at TOSU. I can't wait to see him guard McCamey this Saturday.

Craft is Chris Kramer with a better shot. An NBA career would be a reach, but as hard as this kid works I wouldn't rule him out.I don't get Matta's John Stockton comparison, since Stockton was a blur with the ball in his hands. He reminds me more of Chauncey Billups.

I missed the last game but the last possesion I saw from him, he dribbled into the lane at 800 miles per hour and threw the ball off the bottom of the backboard.
That is why you don't base anything on one play or one example. In that same game Craft had 7 steals.

and this is also why you take everything ccrunner says with a grain of salt

I agree that if Craft were black, his pro potential wouldn't be as much in question...
  • gamauter
So why comment if you don't really know what he is doing.
  • Nashley25
Call me crazy but I think Craft is better than Conley was as a freshman. Craft has the upper hand in every area except for maybe quickness. He doesn't blow by people but on the other hand people aren't blowing by him when he's playing defense. If Craft keeps working hard which he will no doubt in my mind he will go pro.
