For me it's because (a) these clowns showed little regard for the traditions & honor of being a Buckeye and (b) because they are only eligible to play because the NCAA, The Big 10, the university, and the BCS "system" all want a profitable Sugar Bowl.

you seriously think those 5 players sitting out would cause them to lose money? Lol. Is the school gonna take a refund on the tickets or what? Not as many people gonna watch? I doubt it.

While I pretty much agree, you still have the Sugar Bowl lobbying for their playing time. Why?

    Ratings.

Yeah, I know...rhetorical question. Sugar Bowl wants these dudes playing so average Joe college football fan sees their advertisers commercials, not OSU/Arkansas fans.

I think the suspensions will get reduced to 4. The suspended players will see better teams during their own practice then they would have seen the first four games. I think the Buckeyes will be better next year because they will be much deeper with the backups playing the first four games.

i dont know..im an average football fan watching 2 teams I have no interest at all in right now..smu vs army. I dont think the sugar bowl would lose THAT MANY viewers to become non-profitable by a couple players sitting out.

Like I said, I pretty much agree, but their job is to maximize viewership/add response, any drop-off is not good for them. So they're in response mode, trying to pump this "both teams coming in at full strength" thing to minimize any drop-off...= money.

I heard this on the radio this afternoon and my first thought was 'have these guys proven they are trustworthy?' What's to say that they don't just say that and then leave anyway? If I was in Tressel's position it would be tough to take them at their word.

i agree.but if they backout on the commitment, it ruin their reputation, which will more than likely hurt them on draft day.
  • ytownfootball
Nothing prevents them from leaving, but I would think that going back on your word after what has transpired would look a little more dooshy to drafters, thus dropping already down draft stock. Looks a little blackmailish but it does have an effect.

like one of the beat writers said..... if the players were to play then go ahead and leave. They wont be welcome back on campus. They will be blackballed. Look at others who have played at OSU... they have tv jobs, insurance jobs, jobs in the athletic department. OSU has always taken care of former players. While i think BOOM is stupid to come back. I don't know if i think they will go back on their word that they gave tress.

If they want their legacy at OSU to forever be "5 stupid guys who sold cherished Buckeye items, then lied to Coach Tressel and bolted for the NFL", then they'll leave.

If they want to repair their legacy, and have a shot at a great/special season next year, and do the right thing, they'll stay.

BTW, I think Posey already sealed his playing time in teh bowl by announcing the other day he is coming back. I think he is the only one that publically said this.

It's amazing that Tim continues to prove all you wrong, yet he still can't get any respect from any of you

Tim Tebow > Terrelle Pryor as a QB

True he will be playing in the NBA.
And how does Boom hurt himself draft wise?
These kids were 18 and 19 not like they commited a felony or robbed a bookstore or something. Shit they sold some crap whoopeee. I would be all for piling on them if they were due in Franklin County Municipal Court.

Its been two games. Tim Tebow will not be a starting NFL QB in 2 years.

There were alot of you who said he would never even play in a game as a QB,let alone start 2. So you were wrong

I never said that. You're wrong.

He has played two games against mediocre teams, I'm not convinced.

Because of Tebow being a 1st round pick and the Broncos ending the season playing very bad...they had nothing to lose by playing Timmy. He probably has played better than what some people think, but again, it's only been 2 games. Ask Colt McCoy that after beating the Saints and the Patriots...after that, he and the Browns came back to Earth.

This is what I thought of when I heard about this. If they lie and don't come back after the bowl, they better hope the NFL works out because you won't see any Dimitrious Stanleys or Maurice Halls out of this bunch. They won't be able to "make money off their persona" with autograph signings or on alumni bowl cruises. It was either come back and face the consequences of your actions or no longer be a buckeye and all the perks that come along with it. I think it was a great move.

Smart move on Tressle and it makes sense .. Hey we are a title contender next year with these guys and they owe the Buckeye nation more than ever .... If they go back on there word I can tell you one team that wont go near any of them .. Pittsburgh ....Cowboys might take one ... It would cost them millions and many spots in the draft if they renig ... I think they will work harder than ever and maybe Pryor will grow up and be a leader next year

Bingo! What the hell is to stop these guys from declaring pro? Just because they promise Tressel they'll come back, that doesn't mean shit. These guys are obviously selfish and their word is shit.

IMO, all these guys are doing is saying they'll return; they'll have this bowl game as their last "audition" for the NFL and they'll go pro. Maybe not all, but I think a few will. I also think Tressel knows this, but as OneBuckeye said, is covering his ass to justify why he is allowing them to play in the bowl game.
