Before the controversy, I didn't think it was one of the better matchups or more intriguing Bowls. It wouldn't bother me if an OSU fan said they didn't really care about this year's Sun Bowl.
Not sure why some(one) takes offense when other fans aren't dying to watch the Sugar or intrigued by it. Of course, things have changed with these latest developments so I am compelled to watch NOW. -
royal_kOrrigionally, this was one of the most compelling matchups. (Big 10 vs SEC and OSUs 0-9 record against the SEC) In light of the last 24 hours, it may be even more compelling. Especially given Tress's decision of whether or not to play the 5 kids.

Please don't get it wrong. I'm not saying the teams are mediocre, thus making the game mediocre. I'm saying that I feel (and many other people I've talked to who have no dog in the fight feel) that the game is going to be a blowout...thus making the game mediocre.centralbucksfan;612545 wrote:Really? Then what would you call the sun bowl game? Toilet bowl?
Let me clarify that I am not trying to be a dick either. But I honestly don't think there is any question that this game is a very good match up. And I think the ratings will show, even before this crap went down.
I love that I'm getting jumped on by OSU fans for saying that I feel the game won't be good because I think their team is going to smack Arkansas around. I can't win with you guys! -

Ya, not sure why some(one) takes offense when a bowl game is called the toilet bowl either. Fact of the matter is, you or sherm don't speak for the entire nation, nor do OSU/Ark fans. The ratings will be the telling story. And if I had to wager, I know where my money would be. -

That OSU-SEC thing doesn't mean a lot to me and most other neutral fans that I know. It obviously does to OSU fans and that's understandable. OSU-'Bama would've been must-see TV for many neutral fans IMO. Arkansas just doesn't have that same star power IMO. -

Ranked by the ESPN experts as #3 bowl to watch.
I'll take their opinions over yours (not that you aren't entitled to it).

Not jumping on you. And call me bias, but besides the title game, I think this is the second best matchup. And I thnk you are one of FEW who think OSU wins this game easily. And as I said, now with all that has happened...I am not confident at all that OSU will win. This is a huge distraction. Where do you think these players minds are right now? I'll tell you where...."NFL". -

Don't get the wrong impression, at least from my stand point. I'm biased as hell but my comments have been based solely on what has been spouted off at the mouth by talking heads prior to this whole mess. I never saw OSU rolling Arkansas, but I like the fact that some do just can't believe it. I thought this game had a lot of intrigue even before the disaster, most of the heads thought so too. -

You're going to base the decision on the best bowl game on ratings?
There's literally one team out of all the BCS teams that is heads and shoulders above all the others when it comes to fans traveling and tuning in for the game. Of course the OSU game is going to have higher ratings. The OSU bowl games ALWAYS have huge ratings. Notre Dame's bowl game is going to have huge ratings, too. Doesn't mean a thing. What do ratings have to do with the game being mediocre? -

Of course, with all of this controversy....the ratings will be very high. That's obvious. Shit like this sells. And if you don't see the difference between referring to a Bowl game as a "Toilet Bowl" and a couple people saying that they really weren't intrigued by the OSU-Arkansas mediocre matchup (prior to the NCAA violations)......well, S&L hit the nail on the head about you. -

I guess that's where we differ. I hate the talking heads on ESPN (see the whole reason why this thread was started). Everything I've seen, when they talk about this game...they don't talk about Defense A vs. Offense B. Instead, they talk about Ohio State being 0-9 against SEC teams, and Ryan Mallett starting out at Michigan. I get it, get the ratings how you can. But when you have to point to things like that instead of match-ups on the field...it tells me that the game isn't going to be that great.
And Mallett is the biggest choker ever. He is the reason why OSU will roll Arkansas in this game. -

And some of those same ESPN heads are saying some pretty nasty stuff about OSU right now.
What they say isn't gospel. They can't be "ESPiN" one second and "the (legit) worldwide leader in sports" the next. They have their opinions just as we all do. Citing ESPN doesn't make your opinion any more valid than mine (and yes, I saw that you said I'm entitled to my own opinion). -

Tell me 5 bowl games that will feature more talented units than Ohio States defense and Arkansas' offense going head to head. (OSU's defense is 2nd in country and Arkansas' offense is 10th)
Just because you don't watch a ton of SEC games and are "turned off" because Arkansas isn't as "sexy" a name as LSU or Bama doesn't make them any less inferior of a team. You're blinded by your own ignorance. -

More ignorance.sherm03;612540 wrote:And I think OSU is going to crush Arkansas. Probably by more than 2 TDs.
It's just a bad match up, IMO. Arkansas' offense is very 1 dimensional. They don't run the ball very well, and I think OSU's defense is going to completely shut them down. When all you really have to worry about is Mallet, you don't have to gameplan a whole lot. On the other side of the ball, Arkansas' defense isn't anything spectacular. They've given up a lot of yards, and a lot of points this year. OSU will roll them.
Arkansas was 10th in the country in offensive yds per game and 33rd in the country in defensive yds per game. So where the heck do you get they've given up a lot of yards?
Do you even watch anyone besides ND??? -
darbypitcher22Arkansas may have given up the world to Auburn, but in pretty much every other matchup I thought their defense was pretty good... They had Bama beat for 3 1/2 quarters

Ignorance, huh? Arkansas' D gave up 22.8 points/game and 339.8 yds/game. Of the BCS teams only Auburn gave up more points per game, and Oklahoma, UConn, VTech, and Auburn gave up more yards.
I don't know about you, but if my D was giving up 340 yards a game, I would consider that a lot of yards.
And your question is not fair. Yes, I watch other teams besides Notre Dame. But I am not sober after Notre Dame games...so all other games just blend together.
EDIT - Just looked it up and Notre Dame's D is giving up 350 yards/game. And everyone on here, ND fans included, have talked about how porous the ND defense is. -

sirclovisI forgot about this news ( http://espn.go.com/blog/bigten/post/_/id/21116/five-buckeyes-juniors-mulling-nfl-jump ) posted december 15th, since all this controversy came up. I bet we can guess who at least four of those juniors are now. That being said, I would imagine these guys will try to play the game of their lives to showcase if they are ready for the NFL.

Again, if you want to talk about how bad of a matchup Arkansas-OSU is...
Name 5 matchups better than #2 defense versus #10 offense.
You can't. So stop hating just because you don't find Arkansas "appealing". -

Jesus Christ! I'm not hating! I think Ohio State's defense is going to shut down the choke artist that is Ryan Mallett. I think Ohio State's offense (that puts up a lot of yards/game) is going to beat up on Arkansas' defense (that gives up a lot of yards/game). It's my opinion, and it's the opinion of a lot of people outside of the OSU and Arkansas circles.
Why are you all on my case about this? I don't think the game is going to be a good one. You clearly think it's going to be the greatest game ever. I'm not all over your case about it. -
lhslep134sherm03;612658 wrote: I'm not all over your case about it.
Because I present a logical statistical based argument that you can't shut down and you are just spewing garbage dude. I didn't say it was the best, I just said it was ranked 3rd by ESPN and top 5 by me and now I'm asking you since you don't think it's going to be a good game to name 5 better games and give me statistical reasons as to why.
How can you say that a top 35 defense gives up a ton of yards? What's your definition of the 75th defense then, giving up oodles and oodles of yards? -
sherm03
Ok...let me try to put it this way. Would you say that Notre Dame had a good defense this year? I wouldn't. And they only gave up about 10 yards/game more than Arkansas. So yes, I would say that a defense that gives up 340 yards/game is not that great.lhslep134;612661 wrote:Because I present a logical statistical based argument that you can't shut down and you are just spewing garbage dude. royal_kYou have to look at who Arkansas was giving up that 340 yards a game to. Pretty good offenses for the most part.
