Mark May just said....

  • Scarlet_Fever
Mark May just said that NCAA are hypocrites (the only thing I agree with) because if this had happened to any player in the SEC they'd be suspeneded for the bowl game. He said the NCAA protects it's favorites the Big 10 and the Pac 10 and ALWAYS kills the SEC for their violations. How can ESPN even air those comments in light of all that has been going on with Cam Newton.

It only demonstrates once again that Mark May's an idiot. Why do you guys even listen to this douche bag? I can't even watch ESPN when he is on.

^^^this....I don't believe the NCAA even regulates the eligibilty of players in bowl games, do they?
  • THE4RINGZ
I saw the segment last night during Sportscenter and actually thought I was hallucinating. What an idiot.
  • WebFire
Yeah he said that yesterday. I think his idea that they should be suspended for the bowl game is correct. But the thoughts that led him to that conclusion are flawed.
  • vball10set
I wonder if he truly believes this, or is he just saying it for the shock factor/ratings

Mark May is exactly correct. OSU fans should be outraged that Pryor sold these items. Just like (Dr.) Robert Smith and Troy Smith, Terrell is a piece of garbage.

Robert Smith seeked attention by crying foul on Earl Bruce for making him miss a class. Oh yeah, because he wanted to be a dr. LOLOLOL.....

Troy Smith sat on the sidelines during the National title game raping laughing it up with his buddies.

    And Now,

This idiot Pryor sells items that mean something to OSU fans, but obviously not to this idiot. If Pryor really needed money maybe he should give up his condo or his chrysler 300 or stop eating at roadhouse 3 days week for steak.

    Qft

I also love how he lumped the PAC 10 in even though USC just got hit with the stiffest shit since smu.

May is a fucktard no doubt, but OSU (Big 10 et al) deserve whatever shit storm blows our way for these transgressions.

i guess robert smith attended OSU to play football and nothing else. actually it was elliot uzelac who told him to miss classes. OSU fans should be happy they had a student athlete like robert smith that actually wanted to go to class.

He is now a total fucktard. ESPN radio is having people on like Mel Kiper and having them comment on what he said. I am sure that ESPN will muzzle May and you will see that he wont be talking baout the NCAA any time soon.

and what does Mel Kiper know?

^^^About as much as Mark May.

As a Michigan fan, I truly feel bad for the school and fans of OSU. It's not like Tressel, the AD, President... made this ruling, so why is OSU/Big 10 getting a bad rap for it? If someone from OSU would have made this ruling, then yes we would have something to bitch about.

I can't stand Mark May and can't understand why he is employed at ESPN. Willbaughn (spelling?), the black guy on PTI, said it best yesterday. He said something to the affect of "We know you did wrong by trying to make some money, but if you don't play in the Sugar Bowl, we will make less money. We will let you play in the Sugar Bowl and suspend you for next season."

I guarantee the same thing will happen with Newton. He will be declared ineligible sometime in the offseason because the NCAA will have made their money off of him by that point. It's not like Auburn, the SEC, or NCAA will have to pay back the money they were rewarded during this season with Cam Newton.

    Bingo.

I agreed with May when he said they should be suspended for the Bowl game. And I had to feel the ground to make sure hell wasn't freezing over. Then he babbled on about the favorites and I almost spit out my coffee.

The NCAA is definitely protecting a group in this case (and in the Cam Newton case). But the group isn't the Big 10, or the SEC. It's the NCAA and the BCS. With Newton, they couldn't afford to lose college football's star player. They couldn't afford to allow Auburn to go down and have a non-AQ team in the National Championship. With this situation, they can't have a sugar bowl that most already consider will be a mediocre bowl game to lose even more luster. It's got nothing to do with the Big 10. But it's got everything to do with ratings and revenue.

What? I'm with you for the most part but this isn't correct. Most were considering it to be one of if not the most competitive game on the slate.

Comical that he says that after the NCAA let Newton off with nothing at all. May is a POS. OSU players deserve what they are getting..but dont' come on TV and be a completely moron saying what he did. Ridiculously stupid.

I would disagree. I think VTech/Stanford is going to be the most competitive game. All of the others (excluding the National Championship), IMO are going to be blowouts.
  • bigkahuna
I would say that the Sugar Bowl is getting the most hype though. I forgot that Stanford and VT were playing until you posted it. Obviously the BCS Game is getting the most hype, but OSU/Arkansas is #2 for hype.

    3. Rose Bowl
    4. Orange Bowl
    5. Fiesta Bowl

Stanford will beat Va Tech by 2 TDS.

Apparently Mark May missed USC getting killed by the NCAA and Cam Newton getting off without even a slap on the wrist after his dad admitted to trying to extort nearly $200,000 from Mississippi State. But he's right, the Pac-10 gets off easy and the SEC get's the shaft. And if any school in the NCAA get's tougher penalties it's because they have all been under major sanctions in the past so they should know better. One thing has become very evident in recent months, and Pony Excess was a great example of it, that college football is big business in the south and that even if the schools aren't involved the boosters really don't care about the NCAA rules and will do what is necessary for their school to get the top players.

He is right though in that the NCAA does seem to be making up rules as they go and they are making decisions that are in the best financial interest of the NCAA.

We can disagree about what game would be the "most" competitive, but "most already consider will be a mediocre bowl game" just really isn't true. Only point I want to clarify.

At this point, I am so miserably disappointed in the entire college football scene words can't adequately describe it. I don't know what I'm more angry/disappointed in, a system that basically fornicates athletes for making a few bucks off their own shit, the athletes for knowing the damn rules and continue to fly in the face of it, or the general degradation of society (generational) that feels such a sense of entitlement that requires them to get it all now instead of putting in their due diligence.

I realize it's magnified because I'm an OSU fan, but I just have become so disillusioned by the entire mess.

And I think OSU is going to crush Arkansas. Probably by more than 2 TDs.

It's just a bad match up, IMO. Arkansas' offense is very 1 dimensional. They don't run the ball very well, and I think OSU's defense is going to completely shut them down. When all you really have to worry about is Mallet, you don't have to gameplan a whole lot. On the other side of the ball, Arkansas' defense isn't anything spectacular. They've given up a lot of yards, and a lot of points this year. OSU will roll them.

I'm standing by it. Maybe I should have qualified the statement a little better by saying that "most outside of the OSU and Arkansas fanbases already consider will be a mediocre bowl game."

    .

Never thought OSU would pummel Ark and now with all that is going on, I am not very hopeful these players will be in the right frame of mind to get the job done.

Really? Then what would you call the sun bowl game? Toilet bowl?

Let me clarify that I am not trying to be a dick either. But I honestly don't think there is any question that this game is a very good match up. And I think the ratings will show, even before this crap went down.
