Maybe he is all out of "sticky" for the moment. Could be shooting blanks.

Arkansas is playing better than both of those teams right now. They just handled LSU.
jordo212000;589233 wrote:I think Alabama is very scary despite their losses. They have a lot of next level talent. Same thing with LSU. Replace their QB with somebody halfway decent and we might have seen them playing in the National Championship. I also think more of their head coaches (Miles has done some dumb stuff, but he's been pretty good down there) much more than Petrino.

Alabama's offense is tough, but their D is questionable right now. LSU has no offense and the offensive playcalling is horrible. I don't think they could put as many up on OSU as OSU could on them.

I like the match-up. I think we are getting the next best team out of the SEC right now (outside of Auburn).

I'm probably just gonna go down and scalp some. Maybe even wait till right at gametime. Or just party with buckeye fans then watch it at a bar. But most likely I'll get a ticket.

Arkansas is a pretty good team. But I don't think their defense is that great. I think OSU's offense is going to have a field day. Arkansas will make some plays to keep the game somewhat close for a half...but I think OSU wins this one by about 14.

Ahh Chimdi Chekwa, the human piece of toast. I hope he decides to cover someone for this game. If OSU's secondary can get healthy and hold up despite their relative inexperience (Barnett, Johnson, Howard), I think OSU wins the game. OSU's defensive line will probably be able to get good pressure, but if the Razorback WR's are wide open, it won't matter, because Mallett has the arm to make throws even when he's on the move or not able to set his feet right. If they can cover those WR's and he has to move through his progression, he'll run out of time and start making bad mistakes (he's got all the tangibles, but his decision making under pressure has been suspect many times in his career). I think OSU's offense will take advantage of good balance early on, and then when they get a lead, letting Pryor/Herron/Saine and maybe even Hall/Berry do their thing on the ground. I also think Jordan Hall will set up OSU with great field position throughout the game. IMO he has found his niche at OSU, and he's doing a GREAT job helping out the OSU special teams and in turn, the offense by setting them up in great field position.

    The BAD

    1. This is OSU vs. SEC (even if it is Arkansas)...that's always been a bad omen. OSU hasn't beaten an SEC team since September 1988 and have never won a bowl game vs. an SEC team. Maybe this year the Buckeyes can get that SEC monkey off their backs.
    2. There's way too much time to prepare for this one. These extended layoff's have never been a good thing for the Tressel-coached Buckeyes. I love Tress...just sayin'.

    The GOOD

    1. This one's in New Orleans - not Pasadena, Orlando, or Tempe. Unless Pryor, Chekwa, Torrence & Tressel hit Bourbon Street, there's not much else to concentrate on except the game.
    2. It's Arkansas the Buckeyes are facing this time...Not Florida, LSU, or Alabama. But then again this is against a speedy team from the vastly superior SEC. So - yeah - I'm nervous.

    Ohio State 35
    Arkansas 31

someting tells me that even if the Bucks win they won't get any credit because they didn't beat an Alabama, LSU, or Florida type club

me too, but we need to win this one

This game is pretty simple IMO. Its all on the defense to get pressure on Mallett. If they don't, he will sit back and have a field day. If OSU can get pressure, with and without blitzing...OSU will force him into mistakes. He isn't a very good big game QB if you look at his history over the past couple of years. Of course those big game teams had pretty good defenses.
Stop the run, pressure Mallet and OSU will be ok. If not, then it will be tough. As someone above said, besides Auburn, Arkansas is easily the second best SEC team. Definately a good matchup for the Sugar Bowl. Could be a great game.

Arky has never really been accepted by the other tobacky chewin, rebel flag wavin, NASCAR lovin teams in the SEC as part of the family. So unfortunately when the Buckeyes knock the catfish fried grits outta these rubes we aren't going to get the full credit due for finally beating an SEC team.

As far as I'm concerned Mallet still has yellow wings on his helmet and we all know what happens when a Tress team sees the yellow wings...its kick ass time. OSU 42 - Ark 24.

Same, I think Mallett sucks too, which bodes well for our secondary.

Mallett doesn't suck. But his testicals tend to shrink up in big games/close games.

I didn't hear it, but some commentator fof BSPN (I think it was Rece Davis) said the same thing: beating Arkansas isn't REALLY beating an SEC team, like Florida, LSU or Alabama.

I say you can't have it both ways.

If you're going to pound us to death with the whole "OSU can't beat an SEC team in a bowl game" thing, then you can't change the rules at the last minute because it's not the SEC team you'd like to see OSU play (I'm assuming most of these yahoos wanted LSU to play again on their home field).

As for the whole question of whether OSU's secondary can "get healthy" for the game: there is nobody to get healthy, except Christian Bryant, and he's a long shot at this point. Everyone else who is hurt, is out for this game, too. Scary as it is, Chekwa, Johnson and Torrence are going to have to play lights out in this one.

But as many have already said: the key here is (1) stopping the run, because Arky does have a good running back and (2) getting consistent pressure on Mallet. If they don't do that, it will be another long night in the Big Easy.

Should be a good game and OSU should get the win. But if Mallet goes off then Arkansas can win IMO.

Oh and I'd just like to add: I HATE how the bowl games are all spread out now. Jan. 4th? Ridiculous. You've got a holiday on a weekend, play them ALL over that those four days (Friday to Monday) and be done with it.

This would be a glorified home game for LSU. I still like their players moreso than Arkansas's. LSU is loaded with talent and you never know what Les Miles is going to do

agreed, LSU plays on 1/7/10 the people here are raising big time hell.
