There might be quite a few SEC vs. Big 10 head to head this year. Ark vs. OSU, Bama vs. MSU, Mich vs. Tenn, and possibly more.
There are always at least 3 bowl games starting this year that will feature big ten and sec (outback, capital one, and gator). I also heard the rumor of gator, but I heard that Florida would be the sec representative. Most had thought michigan would drop down to the insight bowl but at rich rods josh groban singing party the AD announced that "I think we are heading in a different direction" after someone mentioned the insight bowl. -
darbypitcher22Nothing will be official until later tonight when the BCS sorts itself out... then the bowl tie ins will start falling into place. Things change significantly depending on whether or not both leagues get 1 or 2 BCS bids
-
krambmanBoth leagues will get two teams in BCS bowls. OSU, Stanford, and TCU are all BCS locks at this point. If South Carolina wins today then Auburn would be the fourth at-large. If Auburn wins then it's likely that Arkansas will be the other at-large, although there's still an outside chance that LSU or Boise State could get chosen as the final at-large. Quite frankly the Big XII and ACC don't have a second team good enough to get an at-large spot and the Big East doesn't have any team good enough for the BCS.

sleeperI'll take the Big Ten in every matchup.

TiernanTerrorist Bowl II (scUM vs ND is ALWAYS Terrorist Bowl I every year) - the game you hope Al Quaeda gets tickets to.

Manhattan BuckeyeMichigan appears to be a lock for the Gator.
Tennessee needs FSU to beat VPI to even begin to get the bid. If VPI wins, the Chik Fil A will take FSU and Mississippi St. and the Gator will take Florida. If FSU wins, the Chik Fil A will take Florida (against the ACC team) and the Gator will decide between Mississippi St. or Tennessee. -

Nobody calls Virginia Tech VPI... -
Manhattan BuckeyeThey do in Virginia, or alternatively they call it Vippie Sue. It is much easier to type VPI than Virginia Tech. Do people here not call Ohio St. OSU?

Was thinking the same thing. Only pretentious folk -

This board is called Ohio Chatter, so referring to Ohio State as OSU is okay. No one is going to wonder if you're talking about Ohio State, Oklahoma State, or Oregon State. If this were Virginia Chatter then calling it VPI would be okay. Besides, typing VT is easier than VPI. -
Manhattan BuckeyeDo pretentious folk call Texas A&M "aTm"?
Or are they just more efficient?
Kidding aside, if someone hasn't seen Virginia Tech referred to as VPI, they are educated about this. Virginia Tech fans (and haters) both refer to it as VPI. Haters will refer to it as "Tek" or "Vippie Sue", or my personal favorite, the "Chokies". There isn't anything pretentious about it, VPI is Virginia Polytechnic Institute, which is what it is. -
Manhattan Buckeye'Besides, typing VT is easier than VPI. "
And it also means Vermont. VPI is Virginia Tech, not Vermont. -

When do people think of Vermont in the context of college athletics? -

Context my friend. Context. Were talking about college football. No one will be confused and think that you're talking about Vermont. -

Pwned! In the late 1970s, the shorthand name "Virginia Tech" was adopted as the proper identification of the university's athletic teams over the acronym "V.P.I." and the media were requested to use "Virginia Tech" in their reporting of sport scores. In the early 1990s, the school authorized the official use of Virginia Tech as equivalent to the full VPI&SU name. Many school documents today use the shorter name, though diplomas and transcripts still spell out the formal name. Similarly, the abbreviation VT is far more common today than VPI or VPI&SU, and appears everywhere, from athletic uniforms, to the university's Internet domain name vt.edu. -
slingshot4everA thread about a SEC Big Ten bowl game and you are discussing an ACC team....PWNED....

I have lived in Virginia for 5 years now and have never heard anyone refer to them as VPI or alternatively, Vippie Sue. -
dtdtimDid I miss something? When did the proper nickname for Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University matter so much that it needed to overtake a thread about Michigan/Tennessee in the Gator Bowl? Really, does it matter that much people?
-
Manhattan Buckeye"Similarly, the abbreviation VT is far more common today than VPI or VPI&SU, "
Indeed, OUTSIDE VIRGINIA. I don't expect folks from California to know VPI or Vippie Sue. But it has NOTHING to do with pretension. Sweet Jesus even your wikipedia link mentions "VPI"! What are you pwning? Aren't you the same guy that said Okie-Texas wasn't a big rivalry? -
jordo212000Man I was hoping to see them play Florida. That would have been an entertaining matchup
Michigan should win this one -
bigkahunaI wish there was a Big 10/Big East matchup. I would love to see Michigan vs. West Virginia.
