Did i say them? They were both bad internal hires. I'm pretty sure JJ, Butch, Snelly and Erickson are all pretty big names. -

That's my point. I picked the last two coaches at the U and neither of them are currently "big names." I am saying that the program has fallen a long way. You do realize that Jimmy Johnson, "Snelly", and Erickson all coached there a really, really long time ago, right? -

MulvaThat's an intersting hire, because I could definitely see him bolting for Penn State as soon as Joe Pa finally steps down.
-
jordo212000Al Golden is a solid hire. If you can win at Temple, you can probably win most anywhere. Tuberville and some of the other names being tossed around would have been awful hires.

I agree, he's a good up and comer. Tom Lemming quotes on the Golden hire:
Lemming: "I always thought Golden could be one of those superstar coaches if he had the right platform. He does now
3 key things in recruiting: aggressiveness, relentlessness and personality. Al Golden has all in abundance.
Tom Lemming named Al Golden recruiter of the year in 2009. Lemming on UM's hire: "The Hurricanes hit a home run" -
karen lotzGolden beat one MAC team that finished above .500 while he was at Temple. Could be a swing and a miss.

Tobias FünkeHuh. Didn't see that hire coming at all. Any word on whether he'll coach the bowl game?

I've read that he won't be coaching the team for the bowl. He should probably hit the recruiting trail pretty hard. A lot commits have already jumped ship, they are down to 4 committments, one of which is Chickillo who could very easily be Irish in the near future.Tobias Fünke;598542 wrote:Huh. Miami interim coach Jeff Stoutland will coach the Canes in the bowl game. -

He's already hitting the recruiting trail. If Chickillo leaves it would be to Florida. -
SpeedofsandChickillo was interviewed on tv Friday night at the Lakeland/Plant game. Just like so many others without a coach, he seemed more open. No idea what he will think of Golden.

There are a few people saying he has a OV scheduled for Notre Dame. -

He is also a superstar recruiter. Many pundits thought he was in line to take over at Penn St., but it appears that JoePa is never leaving. People at Virginia would give anything to have had him last year. -

I've heard he was getting the Penn St job too, but I always kind of disagreed. Obviously JoePa is probably going to want his son to get the job (currently an assistant) but to me it seems like Tom Bradley has put in his time and probably should be the leader in the clubhouse whenever JoePa does walk away -

I thought Schiano was the next guy at Penn State? -

That might have gone away now that he is struggling out at Rutgers. The shine is definitely off -

Agreed, but he's in the picture. When (if?) Paterno leaves, that is one heck of a coaching opportunity. -

Why do you say that? I agree and disagree to an extent, but am curious as to why you think it is such a good job? -
Hulk SmashThis is what Miami needed...............promoting assistants hasn't worked out for them. If they made the right choice he will be successful AND he will NOT leave for the first NFL team that rings his phone.
Miami hasn't been able to keep the good coaches they hired and when you have to keep replacing coaches every 5-6 years sooner or later you're going to get a few duds. -

Mega recruiting ground, east coast market. Natural advantage over in-state rival (better facilities, better conference). Football is king in an attractive campus.
I suppose the negative is having to follow a legend. But someone had to follow Bear, Woody, Bo, etc. -
jordo212000I like Golden a lot, but he really doesn't seem like a Miami guy. He coaches wearing a shirt and tie haha. I want to see what he does to that culture down there. There may be some clashing at first

Schnellenberger also wore a shirt and tie so it's nothing new to the Miami program. -

That was a very long time ago. The tie wasn't my main point anyways. Just saying that his personality and style will be an interesting thing to watch down there.I like Golden a lot, but he really doesn't seem like a Miami guy. He coaches wearing a shirt and tie haha. He's got an old school edge and Miami is obsessed with being flamboyantly new school. If Golden was down there last season, I can guarantee they would not have had heaters going during their bowl game haha -
Hulk Smash^^^^no heaters would not have been a bad thing.
When the PSU job opens up Golden is just going to be one of MANY names wanting that position, there is going to be a lot of competition for that spot.
