Miami (FL) fires Randy Shannon
-
LeonardoShannon is fired after a disappointing 7-5 season.
-
Manhattan BuckeyeMark Richt?
-
YtowngirlinflaShannon was a nice guy but a terrible HC. He'll get a job as a DC somewhere but he is no way HC material. I don't know after how many games you read his quotes of how he blames players for poor performance. He couldn't develop talent at all!!!!

I hope not he's just as bad as Shannon. -

Most logical choice.
This job has a ton of potential. Randy recruited pretty well, just didn't get the results. -
killer_ewokMark May completely washing Randy Shannon's hands of the shortcomings at Miami. Blaming players and fans for too lofty expectations. Shocker.
-
the_systemMike Leach
Well, if Miami wants to win...Mike Leach. -
karen lotzGreg Schiano??

Roland Martin from CNN was going off about it to.
Calling Miami "stupid" for firing Randy and that it takes longer than 3 years in college football to turn it around.
I know why Roland was upset, and it had nothing to do with Randy's coaching abilities. -

Yeah, I think we're on the same page here. -
the_systemHe's had 4 years. In those 4 years he has gone 28-22 (16-16 in a pretty bad ACC), and 0-2 in bowl games. Miami is a program that demands 10 win seasons and top 10 rankings. He is not going to get them that.
Wise choice to get rid of him IMO. -
killer_ewokIt appears that Miami(FL) is already getting the "That's Racist!!!!" treatment that ND got after firing Willingham.
Unfair IMO. -
Hulk SmashRicht already has a program going in reverse and Schiano won't take Miami any farther than Shannon has.
They need to lure a head coach from a mid-major or lower division school. -

I still think it should be Mike Leach.
Leach's offense + the speed/talent available in Florida + being on the water so he can have his own real pirate ship = win. -

Exactly. It's sickening that it comes down to that by some people. I guarantee race had NOTHING to do with the firing of Randy Shannon. If race was any factor, I would think he wouldn't be hired in the first place.
He was fired because his teams didn't produce in the 4 years that he was there, despite the preseason hype/recruiting classes.
To play the race card is asinine. This is 2010, let's be real here. -

Sounds like a similar argument that some ND fans made after Ty was fired. I couldn't agree more. It's all about winning. Get it done or GTFO. The only color that matters anymore is green. Winning = money. -

Hasn't been mentioned from what I saw. Brent Venables, Mark Richt, and Mario Cristobal (FIU coach/ U alum/Miami native) are the early names. Peterson would be good but I think Miami is a place where they really want one of their own to keep with tradition and know how to relate with the South Florida recruits. Mario Cristobal was doing a good job of recruiting Miami kids at FIU the last I followed them (a friend worked there), I think he'd be a solid choice over Richt. Venables is being mentioned because he has worked with Miami's AD before. Those type of deals aren't my favorite (Tom Wistrcill/Rob Ianello at Akron I am looking at you) -
karen lotzA couple of people are tweeting that Jon Gruden will be the next coach at Miami.

I've seen this too. Rumor has it Miami is prepared to offer Chuckie $3M per year. Gruden was a hot name last season for multiple jobs after comments were leaked he wanted to coach college football. -
karen lotzYeah I think he would do well there. Hopefully it would take him a few years to get things rolling with his elaborate schemes and terminology with the Irish set to play Miami in the next few years...
-
killer_ewokWasn't Gruden's Dad an asst. coach at ND? That ND-Miami game could get more interesting....
