Who is Minnesota's next coach ?
-
karen lotzHe is in year 2 of his first head coaching job. I do realize what he is doing now, trying to destroy Auburn's season and Cam Newton's Heisman chances by having his staff start rumors.
-
Ty WebbGood lord...you truly are ignorant
Also, they aren't rumors when they are true. -
karen lotzBecause you think Dan Mullen should be the top candidate for every head coaching position that opens up?
-
Ty WebbNo...but he should be A top candidate for the fucking Minnesota job
-
karen lotzWhy? Minnesota would be a lateral move at best for him and he has been in Starksville for a year and a half. Why would he leave when he could possibly have a good thing starting up where he is at?
-
Ty WebbNot saying he would leave...but you're acting like Minnesota shouldn't even consider him which is ignorant
-
karen lotzConsidering they are looking for more of a proven commodity, they shouldn't consider Mullen. 1.5 years is not enough time to see what he can truly do. Especially as the rumors continue to fly out of Starksville. Why would Minnesota want to bring someone in who runs a program like Mullen is? What happens if a prized recruit chooses Wisconsin over the Gophers? Do his assistant coaches start spreading rumors about the recruit's sexual orientation?
-
Ty WebbAs I've said...they aren't rumors anymore.
They have voicemails from Newton and his dad both saying it will take money to get him. Do you not pay attention? -
karen lotz
No mention of voice mails, just that there were alleged (read: RUMORED) conversations. Two sources who recruit for Mississippi State said that Cecil Newton and his son, quarterback Cam Newton, said in separate phone conversations that his college choice would be part of a pay-for-play plan while Newton was being recruited late last year.
Mississippi State compliance officials relayed the alleged conversations to Southeastern Conference compliance officials in January, according to two other sources close to the football program. -

I understand that Auburn will be at fault if anything is proven to be true, but no one is talking about how this makes Mississippi State and Mullen look. Newton was almost committed to Mississippi State and they have said his recruitment was all about money, so put 2+2 together and you have to come to the assumption that Mullen had an arrangement to pay Newton.
Is that a guy you want leading your program? And that's not mentioning the slime ball tactics of releasing this information about Newton. -

If the recruit chose Wisconsin, those wouldn't be rumors -

How do you make that leap? -

Agreed. I have the direct opposite assumption. -
mucalum49enigmaax;554654 wrote:How do you make that leap?
My guess is Dynasty believes it because Cam Newton was originally committed to Mississippi State so if he was quoted as saying "it was going to take a lot more then a scholarship to get him" then to get his commitment they must have paid him. Yet without knowing the whole story and the timeline of these phone calls it is hard to come to that assumption. My guess is he committed to MSU then Auburn countered with an offer including getting paid and then this is when he said it will take more then a scholly to get him. -
j_crazyso unless cam/cecil newton is going to coach in the twin cities next year, lets go ahead and talk about who will.
any news on the search, or are they going to wait until after the season to get hot on the trail?
a name I would consider if I was Minnesota: Brady Hoke. He was damn good at Michigan. had unparalleled success at Ball State and quietly has SDSU at 7-2 in the MWC. -
gorocks99Hoke is being considered, per some reports that have come out recently. I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to him, he did great things at Ball State and has turned around SDSU in short order. Also hearing Jerry Kill out of NIU being mentioned, but his health issues raise a ? for me.

None whatsoever. The fans over here: http://huskyhalfbrains.com/board/list.php?2 seem to think it's on the horizon though. I don't know why. His name doesn't thrill me. -

my thoughts exactly. hasn't really thrived in a (generally accepted) down time for the Pac 10. he'll have a rough go of it in the Big 10 i'm sure. if they stick it out and he gets a system established, he's a great recruiter so that will help.
