Is RichRod safe at Michigan

  • norwalk
Not sure if he's gone or not. I would think a lot would depend on who they feel they could get. No reason to fire a coach if your "wish list" is unavailable.

Serious question here. What has Rich Rod ever done that makes people think he can get UM back to a big time program?? He had some success at WVU, but annually lost the game he had to win. He's never faced the constant grind of a big conference schedule. I'm not convinced he can ever get UM back to being a powerhouse program. I do think he can have good years, but there will be plenty of bad years sprinkled in. I want to see UM back to winning 10 games a year. It's good for the Big 10, and it's good for the Big Game. I just don't see it happening with Rich Rod, EVER!!

I am not the least bit worried on offense as they are very young on both sides of the ball. But defense is getting worse every year IMO.

If he was willing to run a pass-first offense then why didn't he do that with Threet or Forcier? With both of those QB's he tried fitting a square peg into a round hole. He was absolutely unwilling to adapt, change, or abandon his system to fit his players strengths. I absolutely hate system coaches. They can have some excellent year, but when you run a system it limits the players you can recruit and you will have more down years than other programs because you won't always have the right kind of talent. Guys like Tressel and Saban recruit the best talent available and then develop an offense that suits their strength. Even Urban Meyer (a system coach) is having a down year because he doesn't have the right QB to run his system.

With as weak as they already were in the secondary this loss makes the Purdue game even less of a sure than that it was.

He rebuilt the West Virginia program, won four conference titles there, won a BCS bowl game, won at least ten games and finished ranked in the top ten his final three season there (which had more to do with Pat White than him, becuase as I already said, system coaches are only as good as their key players). Also, everyone and their mom was beginning to copy his offense at the time. Even though no one else really runs the zone read spread as their base offense like he does, a ton of teams run a modified version of. And at the time everyone said it was the wave of the future and he was the inventer (even though it's really just a modified version of the veer). There were lots of reasons to think that he could come in an contend and succeed. However, often times guys are over hyped and don't succeed. This is one of those instances.

if RichRod can't beat Purdue with his second teamers, he should fire Robinson on the spot.

Except that on that defense his starters are really second team guys talent wise, so his second teamers are really third stringers.

At some point though Rich Rod has to be held accountable for the lack of talent on the defensive side of the ball.

They pulled out the W. I'm certainly not going to say this game saved his job, but it did cool down his seat a tad.

A "tad" being key word. Kind of funny watching them celebrate a win for Ill like it was for the big ten title or something. But somewhat understanding in that it was in 3rd OT. UM has to be one of the worst, if not THE worst D1 defense I have EVER seen.

You didn't watch Virginia against Duke today. Crazily incompetent.

Its not just about today, its all season long. Hell Ill was worse today. But on the season...UM is just horrid on defense. Not getting better at all.

I bet Eastern Michigan is worse.

I was joking. ;) The defense is bad, win or lose.

I think that most teams would react similarly after winning a 3OT game with a sack on a two point try to seal the victory. Lot of emotion there regardless of who you're playing.

Or the Navy/East Carolina game yesterday. Navy put up 76 points and they run the triple option, which isn't exactly designed to score quickly and put up points.

Actually, there were several games yesterday that featured a complete lack of defense.

Kansas State beat Texas yesterday with only 4 passing attempts, 2 completions, for only 9 yards.

Wow. That's very uncommon with today's style....especially in a big conference like that.

Boise State beat Hawaii yesterday with only 37 passing attempts and 30 completions for a miserable 507 yards.

They also had 230 on the ground, totaling only 737 yards of offense.
