Kirk Herbstreit has Pryor 4th on his Heisman list and says 5th is "generous" for BCS

If Herby's dad hadn't been Cooper's roomate in college Herby doesn't even play at OSU and goes to a MAC school and ends up selling insurance in Centerville, OH. Kent Graham played 9 yrs. in the NFL and started for 2...how does he play behind Herby for 3 yrs? Another example of what a buffoon Cooper was.FatHobbit;518179 wrote:Kirk makes all his money because of his looks (the chicks dig him) not anything he did at OSU. -
centralbucksfanHerbie often goes out of his way so not to sound like a Buckeye homer. Not a big surprise and can't blame him. If he has said Pryor was #1, and OSU was this and that....all the haters would have started a thread about that as well. Just typical pot stirring. Herbie is one of the best at his job. Has he been wrong before? Absolutely. What reporter has ever been perfect?

Probably the same way Joe Germaine played behind Stanley Jackson. -
bo shemmy3337There is no reason for Pryor to be in the top 5 for Heisman currently. It is not a team award and if you look at his stats, it is flat out wrong to have him in the top 5 IMO.
Pryor is #31 in the country in passing yards.
#13 in completion %
#7 in TD
#6 in passer rating
#85 in Rushing yard( I know he is pass first)
The point is he does not have a single statistic in the top 5 as a QB. There is no way he deserves to even be in the conversation at this point. That is subject to change big time with really big games coming up. -
bo shemmy3337As for team, OSU will be in the tittle game for sure if they run the table. If OSU wins this weekend ( I would bet lots of money on it) they will move to 3erd at worst IMO.

I agree with you there. I also forgot to mention that he has played little to no competition which is another reason that his numbers are killing him now. -

He was 56-32 at Tulsa, 25-9-2 at Arizona State, 111-43-4 at OSU for a total record of 192-84-6. He also won 9 conference titles. That's pretty good. (It's a good thing they don't keep stats on the last two games of the season...) -

Those are pretty good #'s for a guy playing in a balanced offensive system, while playing an entire game only 1 time this season. If those #'s meant much the Heisman winner would come from teams like Hawaii or Texas Tech. I don't think he's proven to be a Heisman winner yet though. He has 2 games he has to be great in to win the Heisman(Wisky & Iowa).bo shemmy3337;518387 wrote:There is no reason for Pryor to be in the top 5 for Heisman currently. "The thing that I see, is, Terrelle Pryor came in with all the attention and all the hype and all of the athletic ability, and you don't see him progressing to become a complete 'quarterback'. Knowing down and distance, knowing about the play clock, knowing what hash you're on. Being able to read defenses, being able to just grow and develop as a quarterback.
"Listen, we've watched Tate Forcier as a true freshman have a better understanding of what it means to be a quarterback than Terrelle Pryor. We've seen Matt Barkley as a true freshman have a better understanding of being a quarterback and what that means than Terrelle Pryor. So he is not advancing as a quarterback, and to me that is more alarming -- and the fact they can't find a system that fits his abilities -- is more alarming than any of the numbers coming off a bad game against Purdue.
"This is a big deal."
Lee Corso then suggested that OSU run the football to take some of the pressure off Pryor. Herbstreit answered Corso's suggestion with even more personal jabs at Pryor, and added some biting shots at the offensive line for good measure.
"They can't run the ball because they have one of the biggest underachieving offensive lines in the last ten years in college football history. And they are uninspired, uninspired consistently, so you can't run the football.
"Terrelle Pryor allegedly runs a 4.3 forty... that means you run away from defenders if you run a 4.3 forty. That's like having a 100 mile-per-hour fastball. He's playing like he runs a 5.3 forty, not a 4.3 forty. He lumbers horizontally. He doesn't get up field and run with the football... he looks shackled, he looks confused, his body language is terrible. Other than that he's playing well."
That quote sums up my opinion of one Kirk Herbstreit. Ohio State finished their last 5 or so games with over 200+ rushing yards, Tate Forcier has been relegated to the bench, and Herbie continues to spout off BS like there's no tomorrow. -

You got to have better than number 31 in the country in passing yards to win the Heisman IMO. The voters look at things in the dumbest way. Kid from Oregon should not be ahead of a guy like Denard who has more yards on the ground than he does and he is a QB. He also has a lot of passing yards too. This does not mean Denard should win the Heisman but there is just no way a RB should win it this year is a QB has more yards on the ground. -

You forgot #1 in the country. I mean look at Ingram, does he deserve it based on stats? No(I personally think the guy is garbage and would be 2nd string at best at OSU). But it is what it is, his team was undefeated and his stats were OK.
Let me repeat this, #1 in the country, where's Michigan at? -

Out of the 30 guys ahead of Pryor in passing yards, only 2 are Heisman candidates(Mallet, Luck). Tebow was 23rd in the country in passing yards, Troy Smith was 38th in the country when they won the trophy. It's about winning and how you play in the big game. Pryor right now is on pace to have a season almost identical to Troy Smiths Heisman year. The Wisky and Iowa games will make or break Pryor's Heisman hopes. FWIW, I think Luck is the best QB, and Heisman frontrunner.bo shemmy3337;518621 wrote:You got to have better than number 31 in the country in passing yards to win the Heisman IMO. I don't think Denard is out of it yet. He didn't have a good game against MSU, but it wasn't horrible. If he can continue the pace from before he can get back in the picture. And it might help him that UM plays crappy defense because he'll get to pad his stats and might be able to lead them to some exciting wins. If he can't, well there's always next year... -
TBone14Heisman Trophy isn't a stats award. If Ohio State goes undefeated, Pryor will be in New York for the ceremony and will be one of the favorites.

Timmy Chang must have 3 Heismans that I didn't hear about. He had some incredible stats. -
TBone14This articles proves why Pryor is the front runner for the Heisman. http://www.digitalsportsdaily.com/college-football/news.html
Basically, of all the Heisman winners since 2000, 6 (White, Leinart, Bush, Smith, Bradford, Ingram) were from the team that finished the season #1 in the BCS. 2 (Weinke, Croutch) were on the #2 team. Only twice since 2000 has the Heisman winner been out of the top 2 in Palmer (#4) and the man on the right hand of God himself Tim Tebow (#12). Others may be invited, but if the current standings hold, you can bet that Pryor and Moore are locks to be in NY, along with either Thomas or James. I don't know if Dalton does enough to get invited, but if they run the table and are in the top 3 he could. -

As you said, Pryor is the #6 rated QB in the country. I'll take that any day. The other categories you provided go into compiling the "passing rating".
