Brian Kelly to ND?
-
newarkcatholicfanKelly could stay in Cincy for another year or two then land a bigger and better job.
-
3reppomBob Trumpy is a hack when it comes to UC. He doesn't have good connections to the program beyond what he overhears in local bars and restaurants. He might be right in the end but I would wait for the people who are plugged into the program to come out with this stuff. There is nothing approaching the vibe when Dantonio left for MSU yet. But this would be huge in UC circles and so far there isn't much going on.
-
TiernanSo do the UC faithful think Kelly is better than Dantonio? Or is he simply benefitting from the new path Dantonio got started? Hey ND don't kiss the first girl who shows you some attention. I say hold out for somebody of substance. If you select Kelly you will be looking again in 3 more years.

You get more unbelievable by the day....newarkcatholicfan wrote: Kelly could stay in Cincy for another year or two then land a bigger and better job. -
goosebumpsYes Kelly is better than Dantonio, most of Dantonio's guys are gone now. Kelly Recruited nearly all our defense, DJ woods, Zach Collaros, Isiah Pead, Armon Binns, the list goes on and on.
Some of you people know nothing of the program and yet feel the need to comment like you do. -

Agreed. For the non-UC fans, if it is not Josh Katzowitz, C. Trent Rosecrantz, Dan Hoard, Scott Springer, Lance McAlister or Moe Egger, don't put a lot of stock in the other announcers in WLW in regards to this story. As noted above, many of the others have no connections to the program and in fact, are connected to other programs and root for UC's misery. -

Kelly > than Dantonio by a mile. Dantonio got some good recruits in the system which helped the first year or two of Kelly's tenure, but Kelly has taken clomplete ownership of this team. Many of the recruits Dantonio brought in were converted to another position by Kelly. More often than not, it worked out for the best (ie. Connor Barwin from TE to DE, Gilyard from DB to WR, Ramsey from LB to RB). From this year's team, only eight players remain who were Dantonio recruits. The rest are Kelly's guys.Tiernan wrote: So do the UC faithful think Kelly is better than Dantonio? Or is he simply benefitting from the new path Dantonio got started? Additionally, BK reached out into the community of students, alumni and citizens to garner interest into this program. He let them know we can succeed here. He has helped raise a lot of money for the program. Dantonio had no interest in this and as a result he was not able to get over the hump with attendance. Look at what Kelly is doing-- UC is selling out Nippert and they aer talking expansion. Dantonio was lucky to get 25,000 to attend a game.
Finally, I know the OSU fans love Dantonio because he was the defensive coordinator at OSU. Look at what he accomplished at MSU. He finished 6-6 and his team is 22-16 over his tenure. This is the same record that J.L. Smith had at the same point in his career at MSU. I read today where 15-20 of his guys just got into trouble for some off the field activity. Dantonio might be looking for another job soon if he doesn't right the ship up in East Lansing. -
3reppomKelly is a better coach than Dantonio, more importantly he is better face of the program than Mark Dantonio. I have met Dantonio a few times and I know most of the staff up in East Lansing. He is an excellent coach and a good teacher but he never had the vision for the program that Brian Kelly has expressed. About competing for Big East championships and playing for national titles. But most damningly he never communicated his vision of the program to the media, to the university community or to the fans. Mark Dantonio did a lot of things right in his time at UC, a lot of things. He pushed Mike Thomas very hard to make the steps needed to expand the program but he did it entirely behind the scenes. But the things he didn't do, or often attempt to do kept UC from taking the proverbial next step. He wasn't very aggressive in recruiting because he didn't think that he could recruit at a high level in Clifton. He wasn't out in the community, and he didn't actively sell the program. He was never comfortable with that aspect of the job at UC. Thats one reason why he left for MSU where those activities aren't a requirement of the job.

athlete37Would this be why in Bob Stoops' press conference today he did not allow questions regarding Notre Dame?

athlete37Next week I don't want to hear any of this "well I guess it was Stoops and athlete37's guess happened to be right". I'm telling you right now that is who it will be

Tiernan"He was never comfortable with that aspect of the job at UC"
And that is because Mark always knew the Big East will never be considered on the same level with the Big 10 and no matter what the current record is for one year...HC at Mich St Univ is still a much more respected job than the HC at UC and will remain so for many years to come. -

This was a rumor that was started by Cunningham just to get under people's skin! It isn't true and won't be true! What benefit would Kelly have to go to ND besides money? He has said all along that he is happy here and that his family is happy here. The money at ND would have to be astronomical and guaranteed for it to even be worth it. ND will never win another National Championship no matter who is the head coach. Consider these points:vball10set wrote: I'm listening to WLW 700am out of Cinci right now,and they're reporting hot and heavy that Brian Kelly will announce after the game Friday that he has accepted the Notre Dame job...now please,I'm just posting what I'm listening to right now...they're saying he reportedly will make $5 mil per year--tune in if you don't believe me
1. They don't play in a league which hurts them alot.
2. They play one of the toughest schedules out there and will most likely never again go undefeated.
3. They have such tight academic standards that only proves to hamstring them as well.
At UC Kelly can win or be at the top of the league every year, has a great talent base right here and throughout the Big East to recruit from, and can continue to have an opportunity to be in a BCS bowl game every year to the point that one day as he continues to build this program they will name the field and or stadium after him.
Every once in a while a coach becomes happy with his situation and decides to stay for less money where he can make a difference and a name for himself (think Joe Paterno, or Bobby Bowden) instead of goig to a pressure cooker like ND. Just go ask Davies and Willingham if it was worth it. -
Mr PatNot playing in a league doesn't hurt Notre Dame at all.

Besides Money? You're joking right?
Brian Kelly I doubt goes to ND, but not because he decides to stay at UC, more likely because he won't be topping their list.
Seems as though you've left out one very important part of your "evaluation" in recruiting.
1. Kinnick...it holds 35K...35K or a packed South Bend?
2. Brutal schedule...you want to be the best you have to play the best (bigger road crowds too), not happenning at UC
3. Big East...pretty widely accepted outside the Big East that they are an inferior football conference, recent Bowl wins have done little to shake this idea.
4. Domino effect...two things, you're a four star rec. looking at your future classes of two star sprinkled with a couple of threes...where you goin'? Second, your coach is a hot comodity...how long is he stayin'?
While Kelly has done well at UC there are drawbacks, if UC is TRULY going to contend with the big boys, they have some changes to make, Kinnick and the Big East (though to a lesser degree) are the biggest problems. Kelly won't be around to see those changes. -

Notre Dame is only relevant in name only when it comes to college football today.steel_curtain wrote:

Keep thinking that.newarkcatholicfan wrote: Notre is only relevant in name only when it comes to college football today.
"Under the new BCS arrangement Notre Dame will be guaranteed one of the at-large slots in a BCS bowl if it is ranked No. 8 or better in the final BCS Standings. It is also guaranteed annual payment for its participation in the BCS. In those seasons in which the Irish play in a BCS game, the school will receive $4.5 million. In those seasons in which Notre Dame does not play in a BCS game, it is projected to be paid $1.3 million for its participation in the BCS arrangement."
The people that actually run college football wouldn't be paying Notre Dame $1.3 million a year to do nothing if their presence wasn't relevant. -
newarkcatholicfanThey suck and that is with a weak schedule.

Swamp FoxBrian has a very nice Irish surname and it would make good copy in South Bend, but why would he leave a sweet deal in Cincinnati to risk it all at the pressure cooker they call Notre Dame? I know the most obvious answer is for the money. I suppose that, in and of itself, would be enough but really....why would you put yourself through that? I think he'll stay in Cincinnati unless a job comes along that looks more appealing. A job where you have at least an even chance of succeeding. I'm not sure that going to Notre Dame would provide that opportunity. Tough entrance requirements, lousy weather, incredible alumni pressure...afterall shouldn't Notre Dame be way up high in the national rankings each year? I guess we'll just have to see what happens...

kathyjaneNotre Dame is no longer the place to play. Kids want the heat and beaches of Florida.
