Salem needs a new coach.

SQ_CraziesAbout time.
No link yet, doesn't mean it isn't true--trust me, we have to deal with the Salem News, the story may not break for weeks lol.
Anyone know of any potential candidates? I know of one for sure, and it's who I think they should hire immediately. But we'll see.. -
QuakerOatsYour thread title is misleading; Salem needed a new coach for quite a while now
Anyhow, it is time to bring in somebody good; we have a great group of kids returning and there is no reason they should not be looking at 16 wins next year with the right leadership.
Go Quakers !! -
SQ_CraziesLOL, what was I thinking?

Trust me, i'm sure they know, but I bet they would love for you to be their investigative reporter on the issueSQ_Crazies wrote:

SQ_CraziesI wrote for The Quaker in high school, which makes me wayyyyyy over qualified to work for the Salem News.
-
ts1227I'd trust CardsFlyinHigh on this one.
It's just too bad the Salem News (and most every other paper owned by Ogden, save the Tribune) can't update their website with news throughout the day like every other relevant newspaper on the planet. -
SQ_CraziesYep, always gotta wait until midnight at the earliest.
-
tribepronk41Quakeroats- You're right, it has been a long time coming...The move should have been made way back before the 09 season. That team easily should have been 15-5 and won their tier. Questionable coaching decisions created the loss of 6 of 7 to end the season.
-
sports_talkGreat talent???? That is a bit strong. So you all think this Salem team was better then Poland and Canfield? Isn't that the tier they were in? I really did not pay attention to what tier but aren't they a D2? I don't think Salem could have won the bottom tier.

Boys basketball was in the middle tier, not the top one (which is where Poland, Canfield is).sports_talk wrote: Great talent???? That is a bit strong. Looks like someone put their article up early just to spite me -
CardsFlyinHighSalem was in the middle tier with struthers, Hubbard etc... Considering they lost in OT twice to Hubbard and once to Struthers, its not that much of a stretch to say they couldve won the tier.
-
SQ_CraziesMost people in the bleachers thought they could win that tier that year as well--everyone in the gym but the coach knew that his rotations were jacked.
-
sports_talkso how about some possible good candidates?
-
tribepronk41Tom King, ex-Hubbard Eagles coach and area personal development instructor deserves looks...He worked with a few Salem basketball graduates and one current player
-
SQ_CraziesI'd like to see Matt Mowery, former Quaker and current JV (correct me if I'm wrong) coach at United. Not a long coaching career, but IMO it's only a matter of time before he gets a varsity job--hate to see it happen at some place other than Salem because I think he'll be successful.
-
tribepronk41agreed sq_crazies...he would be a good one
-

-
SQ_CraziesYeah I laughed at some of his quotes in that article, but he isn't important enough to discuss at this point.
-
IRISHBUCKSo let me get this right a couple of you would like to bring in a new coach with no varsity experience. Can you expound on his qualifacations for this job other than you like him.Why is Tom King an ex-coach.Obviously there are posters who have an axe to grind with former head coach.Being involved with the league but not the school system. What were main concerns of coach being non-renewed.
-
QuakerOatsNot that some would even consider leaving their current positions but guys like Danilov, and Sembach, are the type that do a great job with varying types of players; King would be another consideration. Hopefully we get someone who understands the types of players he has from year to year, and deploys them in such a way to get the most out of them and the team effort.
There is a large group of talent returning, the facilities are excellent, and we have a good school board that will open up this search and I am confident we will get the right guy.
Go Quakers !! -
tribepronk41Danilov would be a great choice...I think he would love to take the position but i dont think he would ever leave his post in Campbell. He's done way too much good for that program to just get up and leave
-
IRISHBUCKYou assume the talent is returning.Do not discount loyalty to a coach. Many times players feel slighted and/or abandoned when coaches are released or leave on their own accord.Happens more in the larger metropolitan areas but players do tend to migrate.
If Danilov would consider and possible accept would be the steal of the year.Does anyone know what he teaches -
QuakerOatsChange is not necessarily easy, and if your point is that some players might not play now, I truly believe the love of the game should overcome loyalty to a particular coach. This is a life lesson and people normally should not quit what they are doing (and like to do) just because of a change in leadership.
The football players that stuck it out and then were part of Salem history last fall understand completely that change can be very good. -
tribepronk41
Completely agree...I know a couple players that were real loyal to the ex-coach, but i know many that weren't at all loyal (ones that have told me they were thinking about not playing if he had returned for next year). So I can almost guarantee 95% of the varsity team, excluding the departing seniors, will be back. There will be 4 seniors and one junior with tons of varsity experience. So whoever is fortunate enough to grab the position has a pretty nice team to take over.QuakerOats wrote: Change is not necessarily easy, and if your point is that some players might not play now, I truly believe the love of the game should overcome loyalty to a particular coach.
