Salem needs a new coach.

sports_talkYou guys from Salem are dreamers. But there is nothing wrong with dreaming. I don't know the guy who was there from jesus Christ but I have seen how Salem has faired in the past 20 years. Don't blame the inconsistant play for all the coaches.
I trust Futbol's comments almost all the time but he is using a superlative on the Brinkster that is not correct this time. He is an average coach at best. Just check out his past 4 or so years up at a big D1 school. The word is stinko. Sorry not a Brink fan. Way over rated. -

I talked so critically of the programs and the town in general on JJ that I had people divulging my identity, talking bad about my family, and saying I should give back my alumni scholarship.
I'm on the PRO Salem side here, and am the one catching the crap once again. Can't win.
Salem has had some years full of stinkers (Classes of 2002, 2007, 2008), but it's not a regularity. Look at Bill Miller. Vince Lombardi couldn't have coached the first football team he had to anything decent, but once he got the players his last year he STILL proceeded to go winless. Now it's his fault.
It has been a lot of a coach issue in Salem lately, look at the last 10 years:
Football: Mehno, Miller
Baseball: All
Softball: All
Boys' Basketball: Spack, Klucinec
We had the horses in all of those (exception: Football 2000-01, 2006-07). We had bad boards that hired back coaches.
We have a GREAT school board right now. Fiscally responsible, understand the balance between the work and the play, and are capable of making good hires. It's going to be fine. -

Oh kind of like Jim Carrey. Hey I can do that but what comes out is quality. I am dead on all accounts. Especially the man in black. What a joke. He pulled up so quick when he saw the talent level and moved to the rich section. Still no wins. I don't even think he has been over .500 yet. -

When a football team goes 0-10 (and 3-27 in 3 years) and then immediately turns around and goes 9-3 including a playoff win, can you explain to me what the difference is?sports_talk wrote: You guys from Salem are dreamers. I have dreamed, and I have also witnessed what happens when you have the right coach in place. Imagine then what happens when you have the right guy in place long enough to build an entire program. -

the key "having the right guy in place long enough to build a program" Is that what Salem is going to get for basketball? Even our current football coach was "looking" for next year....QuakerOats wrote:

sports_talkI call it having a good class. I would not judge the cover. One year is not enough my friends. Your man Brinkster had 1 decent year. Then the cellar fell out. That is why he left. GUARANTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

tribepronk41brink left for 2 reasons, and none involved never having talent...he got an opportunity to coach a major d-1 school where it obviously gives him a better chance to further his career and second the state of the salem school district was a little shaky, not being able to pass levies and he didnt want to lose his teaching job

I can buy losing his job thing. But usually they con't cut coaches. But as of getting a major D1 is really the far cry from what Hudson is. They are and still a team that gets beat up by the teams they play. None of teams they play are actually any good for that matter. He is well under .500 so as for being a great coach has proved my point. Just another guy who was lucky to have very good talent at Springfield. Very very good talent. I don't blow smoke. Just tell it like it is.tribepronk41 wrote: brink left for 2 reasons, and none involved never having talent...he got an opportunity to coach a major d-1 school where it obviously gives him a better chance to further his career and second the state of the salem school district was a little shaky, not being able to pass levies and he didnt want to lose his teaching job
Good luck to Salem. It would be nice to see a school like this have success. It is a nice comunity and a good place to raise a family. Hopefully the get a hard working guy and they trust him and give him time. -

sports_talkWhat is not surprising is his comments about the high school and freshman young men. Sorry my friends not sure this old timer will start where it needs to be built. FROM the BOTTOM UP. Not a good choice in my opinion just based on his comments. I could be wrong because I don't know him from Adam. Just sounds like a guy who expects it to be there by the time he shows up.

Selling point."He's looking at starting a program from the grade schools all the way up," Bratten said. "Stability is definitely an attraction with Rich. He doesn't have anything to prove to anyone. He's not looking to use any place as a stepping stone, not that the other candidates we interviewed necessarily were. That's something we're not worried about."
I love that that is a said goal right from the start. -
tribepronk41gopens, how do you feel about this hire?
-
ts1227Any idea of if they're going to look for a teaching position or not? I know originally they said there was not one there, but is Hart looking to teach here should a spot become available?
-
sportsforlife
No teaching positions in his field as far as I know. Think it will be tough to teach in Minerva and coach in Salem - Personally think head coaches should be in system - but that is just my opiionts1227 wrote: Any idea of if they're going to look for a teaching position or not? I must have missed that??? If he said that then my opinion has changed.SQ_Crazies wrote:

IRISHBUCKI believe new Salem coach Hart along with building a program from ground up is also going to have to do some damage control with returning players.Seems as though former coach had good relationship with a number of players.Which is true for any coaching job that has a good number of seniors returning.I think Salem has 5-6 seniors coming back.It will be interesting to see if any of previous staff is retained or will new blood be injected from top to bottom. No coach should have assistants pushed on him.
