Orrville Red Riders vs Col. Bishop Ready Silver Knights
-
riders1Well it's onto STATE and the final 4. Has it really been 14 years since we were last there? Seems like just a couple years ago.
State tourney history
Orrville - 1996 (1st), 1995 (1st), 1992 (1st), 1980
Columbus Bishop Ready - 2002 (2nd), 1973 (1st), 1972 (1st)
Football History
1983 Semifinals (Mansfield & Groveport-Madison)
Orrville def. Loudonville (9-3) 24-15
Columbus Bishop Ready def. Coal Grove Dawson-Bryant (11-1) 44-0
FINAL (Ohio Stadium, Columbus)
Columbus Bishop Ready (11-2, Coach Paul Nestor) def. 43-15
Orrville (9-4, Coach Mo Tipton)
Tom Bolyard was the QB in this 1983 football, and now in 2010, Jake Bolyard is the leader on this basketball team , hmmmmm interesting. -
FlashMassey rating had us beating Newton Falls by 12 and won by 11. Massey has us beating Ready by 3 56-53. Hope its true. Ready has lost to Hartley, Rosecrans, DeSales twice, Watterson twice. Massey ratings Orrville 71st in state in all divisions and Ready 87 th in all divisions.
-
FlashReady 18-6. Cody Culbertson 15 pts. 5' 1" guard controlled the tempo vs Tafts pressure defense. Joe Graessle scored 37 pts.

riders1The other 2 finalists
Lima Central Catholic - 2000, 1994 (2nd), 1993, 1992, 1989 (2nd)
note 1992 was when LCC had an 8 pt lead with under 15 seconds left, the fans were lining up for finals game tickets and were told of Hiland's improbable comback to beat them.
Chesapeake is making their 1st appearance in final 4 -
RedRider1Is there any offspring of Jewell Jackson for Ready? He was the back that torched Orrville back in 1983
-
ChesapeakeBRF, you all take care of JJ's Bishop Ready team Thursday and maybe we will face you all Saturday.
-
RedRider1So he'll be there for sure. Maybe I can pay my $12 face to face.
Extra incentive. -
BRFCan we get a moderator to fix the thread title? I'm a little superstitious with things like that! To Chesapeake (the poster): Could you have imagined this scenario?! Flash: I'll bet you'll be secretly rooting for that 5'1" player! . RR1: with you sitting on press row, I could see that little meeting happening! What an exciting time!
-
thePITmanGood luck Riders! See you down in Columbus!
-
THE4RINGZRoll Riders Roll.
Good luck next weekend. -
FlashBRF, I'd tower over him. LOL.
-
thedynasty1998As a Ready alum, I couldn't be more excited for this game. Ready has a coach in his 1st year at the school and the players have completely bought into his philosphy.
Ready is ver discliplined and has a GREAT player in Graessle. They survived the toughest region in D3 and beat the team that many considered to be the favorite.
Should be a good one! -
rrfanLet's continue the season for two more games!
Let's go Riders! -
RedRider1
Very similar things could be said of Orrville. 1st year coach, kids buying in, great player in Jake Bolyard (and I'd add Zach Wasson too). We beat the defending champs in Cleve. Central....so we're plenty battle tested.thedynasty1998 wrote: As a Ready alum, I couldn't be more excited for this game. Chesapeake has made it to the regional championship several times but could never get past it until this year.
I guess we face Lima Central Catholic Thursday at 10:45 am?
The Columbus Dispatch had Plymouth as defeating Lima Central Catholic last night but everyone else says Lima.
I think Chesapeake could've taken Plymouth depending on how fast it was going. -

Thanks for updating us, as I thought it was Plymouth, also. I just couldn't imagine that Chesapeake and Orrville would be appearing at the State Finals. BTW, congrats to Chesapeake, Chesapeake!Chesapeake wrote:

I was at that game. Quite amazing. The sequence of events that allowed Hiland to pull out the victory will probably never be duplicated. That was in the days prior to the double bonus. LCC missed the front end of several 1 & 1's. People were filing out of St. John arena in droves while one of the most improbable comebacks in high school basketball history was unfolding.riders1 wrote: note 1992 was when LCC had an 8 pt lead with under 15 seconds left, the fans were lining up for finals game tickets and were told of Hiland's improbable comback to beat them.
1992 was the same year Orville and Hiland won state championships. One of Hiland's two losses was to Orville. I believe it was by 3 points. Game was played on neutral turf at New Phila.
Good luck to Orville. They have a pretty good history when they end up in Columbus they bring home the trophy. -
BRFGreat remembrances, majorspark,
It's ORRVILLE!! -
THE4RINGZBRF if you want to help your team win next weekend you should show up in a pair of this old school Uncle Sam inspired striped warm up pants.
Anything for the team right ? -
BRF^^^Yes, that is really really funny!
-
THE4RINGZJust trying to help out.

RedRider1Here's my lookback at the '83 state title game. Hopefully times have changed and kids wont show up with swastikas on their leg and headhunt our best player.
I know it's almost 30 yrs ago...but the name Columbus Ready still evokes some emotion in Orrville.

The first comment after the blog was by Roger Davidoff who passed away last year. He played in that game I believe. -
rrfanI think a lot of people will not be working on thursday.
What does Col. Bishop Ready team like to do? Outside? Inside? Big? Any help to get me through to Thursday!
