Orrville Basketball

RedRider1Riders fall to Senior, 85-79. I'm told we led early, then fell behind by double digits, and got to within 3 with less than a minute left.
Zach and Jake led the way again...hearing both had 27 -
BRFWe got outscored by their bench 25-0 according to the News Journal.
-
RedRider1We scored 79...and zach and jake accounted for 54 of that. i thought I read Sam had 10....so that only leaves 15 pts unaccounted for. I guess 0 bench points isn't to hard to believe.
We're not terribly deep and missing Hoobler and Ingram made us even less deep.
Groves (streaky) and Corbett (more of a defensive sub) are about all we had this weekend off the bench. -
THE4RINGZWhen is the Orrville v. Triway game? I need to get a cigar order together.

And I am STILL ticked about you guys beating us back in the fall!! -
RiderwannabeOrrville wins 82-79 in OT,didnt make it to the game just got scores.

FlashKnew this would be close. I saw Albert's here at least 3 times scouting. We have trouble against Nwtern and their outside shooting. This is a game that should have been a 10 or so points win on paper, but I knew would be a nail biter. Triway lost tonite at Wooster by 16. They got down 16-0 and couldn't climb out. Wooster hit their outside shoots tonight at the start of the game. Wooster's better than they played at Orrville and Triway is better than they played tonight. It will be interesting who will be able to out coach who after these teams have seen each other once during the season and then play again at districts.

RedRider1Any win at Northwestern is a good win. Thanks riderwannabe for the update.

Jake 38 pts
Wasson 9
Joey 12
Miller 9
Pirman 4
Groves 10
Jake & McKean , both with 21 at the half, don't know what McKean
ended with but the Huskies must have had 15 to 16 3 pointers in the game. -
RedRider138 for Jake = new career high.
Averaging nearly 30 a game over his last 3. -

Jake should take over the scoring lead in the county at about 22.5 to Lowe of Kingsway's 22.25 approx, leads by 1/4 point, with Mckean 3rd just under 22.RedRider1 wrote: 38 for Jake = new career high.

I would like to see Jake take either of those two on in a one on one!riders1 wrote: Jake should take over the scoring lead in the county at about 22.5 to Lowe of Kingsway's 22.25 approx, leads by 1/4 point, with Mckean 3rd just under 22.
How about Wooster dropping 96 on Triway?
Upon reflection (and reading what Flash said about Alberts watching us play at least 3 times), I am thinking the Huskies went above and beyond in preparing for us and that is how a 6-7 team gives us a hard time. If you were at the game, can you explain to me how they contained Zach for only 9 points? I tip my hat to the Husky coaches and hope that we take a note from it for later. -
FlashI wasn't there, but physical play and fronting with a double team is probably how. That would leave the outside open and the reason Jake scored 38. Did we try to limit there best player by getting in his face and doubling him? Or are we saving that for a later date?

rrfanWow! 38 for Jake. What a game for that young man.
BRF Nice avitar! -

5 of Orrville's 11 wins are against these same teams! A win over Smithville, (are they really that competitive in this division)? How tough is Shelby? An OT win against a 6-7 Northwestern. That leaves the top of the OCC, where Orrville is 1-3.RedRider1 wrote: Wooster is a little deceiving. 4 of their 6 OCC wins have been against West Holmes, Ashland and CF (i.e. the bottom of the conference)
They're good, don't get me wrong.....but their 2 wins against the top of the OCC have been by 1 (madison) point and 8 points (lexington)....both at home.
Their first big road test saw them lose by nearly 30 (at Senior).
Should be a real good game. Hoping for a noisy Wooster student section.
11-3 is a good record, but who did you really beat? -
RedRider1Smithville is at the top of the WCAL, Shelby is a .500 team, so is Northwestern...those aren't "bad" teams.
I notice you left out Akron East (coincidentally), we beat them too, they're 11-3 and ranked in the top 25 in the Plain Dealer poll.
I said what I said about Wooster while everyone was sniffing the glue about how good they were. The result of the game (77-51 Orrville win) proved my analysis to be very accurate.
If you're trying to make the point that the OCC has some bad teams, you're right. WH, CF and Ashland have struggled this year. Senior has ran away, again, and it's a race for 2nd place, again. -
CCRollyWooster beat one of those teams on the road on Saturday night, beating Madison. Wooster played one of their worst games of the year against Orrville the first time. It'll be a much closer game in Wooster, but I hope the Red Rider players think that Wooster is still a push over.
-
Go RidersI've seen the Riders play a few home games Wooster & Ashland and Senior. The Wooster game Orrville did everything well. The Ashland game we had Wasson on the bench for a large portion of the game and Miller had a fair share of mistakes. If Wooster expects to beat the riders they better start playing better in the paint. The 3 ball won't carry you through the tough games. Wooster did make some long range 3's but they also missed a fair share. In the OCC Senior is great WCAL teams would hardly give them a game !

FlashWooster games remaining: Lex, CF, Orr, Ash
Lex: Woo, Senior, CF, Orr
Orr: CF ,Madison, Lex., Wooster
Wooster may have the easier remaining schedule, but the 3 teams tied for 2nd will have to play each other to decide 2nd place. -
rrfanCCRolly- Orrville will not take Wooster lightly. You see you are still confused...the Orrville Kids just Want it more. It is a mind set. They will not lose focus on that game and Coach will make sure of it.
Will it be a closer game? Probably you got blown out the first geme, but the only W for Wooster the night they play the Riders will be on their Jersey. -
CCRollyIt's guaranteed win night for the Generals. I will be in attendance.
-
rrfanWow!! CCRolly trying to put some heart into the Wooster Generals.
You will still lose! -
Mr. RussellI think that the Riders will have a lot of success come tournament time in the Wooster district, however, a question has really come to my mind.
If orrville loses a game here they shouldn't to end the season, and ends up finishing third. Say behind Wooster. Is this a disappointed season? Or is it all going to be based on tournament success, due to the recent lack of it with the prior coaching staff? -
RedRider1Anything above 10 OCC wins is good for me. Senior is going to give you 2 tough games every year. And to me, it's not a conference that you can run the table with anything but a stellar team. Most years you're going to drop 2 or 3 games at a minimum.
That really hasnt changed from the prior coach. The OCC is still a tough league no matter who is running the show for us. What I think will be measured is post-season success...and Coach Slaughter HAS to know that.
1 win and 1 loss has been our average over the last 7 years, that wont cut it this year. This is a good team we have...and I hate to put high expectations on us, but there isn't a dominant team in districts this year. We SHOULD be in the district title game at the very least.
Just like in the past, a trip to regionals = a successful season. I think this team has enough athletic and basketball talent to get to regionals, but the 1st game in Canton would be against the Cleveland district (Which will likely be Cleve. CC or St. Joes)....but you get there and take your shot, just like Smithville did the past 2 seasons.
It got to be tough sledding recently with the addition of Buchtel and St V over in Canton, but we never even got a chance to play those teams, we had fits with the Minerva's and Canton South's of the world.
