Hi R80.....how's Timken doing this year? -
RRRockHello all first time post, just wanted to say as most have already said very happy with the way the Riders are playing so far. Couple of questions, I have missed a couple of games and when I do go I usually do not get their until late in the JV game or it already over. Was wondering I think I heard the JV was like 3-5 can anybody pinpoint what is going wrong there? Seems that they have some size and some solid athletic players on the team. Also was wanting to know if anybody on here goes to freshman games or junior high? Was wondering how they were doing, always interested in the future. GO Riders!!

RedRider1Here's a newsletter with some info on the OMS winter teams.
I've heard the 8th grade team has some real nice athletes. Cupboard is not bare.

RedRider1Not that I'm aware....Booster Club website might have some notes under the "Coaches Report" section.
I try to keep up on my blog...but anything below varsity is very difficult to keep up on. -
FlashGirls Basketball
Coach Mark Alberts was not able to attend. Assistant coach Scott Myers reported that the 7th graders are winless and the 8th graders have only won one game, but both teams are slowly making improvements. The JV girls are 6-1 and playing well, while the Varsity team is currently on a great 8-0 run. Four of their next 5 games are away, the first of which is a big game against Wooster, so the next few weeks will be exciting.
Boys Basketball
Coach Sly Slaughter reported that things are going very well. He thanked and credited the program’s successes to everyone from the youth instructional leagues to the supportive parents and Booster Club. As for records, the 7th graders have lost 2 and the 8th graders have lost 1. Kevin Summers is coaching the 7th graders and Roy Woodring is the 8th grade coach. They are a very dedicated group of middle schoolers. The freshman team is doing well and play very good fundamental basketball under their coach, Chad Spurlock. The JV team is struggling right now at 2-3 and is going to keep working towards having the right mix on the court together. The Varsity boys are 5-1. They started out with a good win against Shelby, lost to a very good Mansfield Senior team, then have beaten West Holmes, Smithville, Ashland, and a tough Akron East in their last 4 games. The boys are starting to develop as a team and find and accept their individual roles on the court. They are looking for some community service projects to get involved with off the court. If anyone knows where there may be a need in the community that the team can fill, please contact Coach Slaughter.
Spirit Club
Thats the report from the booster club.
Been to see the 8th graders play a couple of times and we definitely have potential there to be good. The kids have been playing AAU and are working hard to be better.
The 7th struggled a little more getting started, but has good potential also. -

Wow. Well said.Flash wrote:Coach Sly Slaughter reported that things are going very well. He thanked and credited the program’s successes to everyone from the youth instructional leagues to the supportive parents and Booster Club.
Nice to hear about the community service stuff too. -
OrrPrideCoach Slaughter is a great asset to our kids, our school and our community. He is a great role model for the boys.
So glad the Short era is over. On to bigger and better things.
(I'll probably get attacked for that comment, but oh well.....bring it on.....lol) -
riders1I see a thread with the AP poll is now up. Who votes on this poll? They have triway with 2 huge losses at 5th and Smithville and Orrville tied at 20th with only 12 votes each. It's obvious some voters have no clue to voting! Also Hiland ( beat triway ) is only 14th!
-
BRFPitman is probably on the voting panel!
-
FlashIt's sports writers. Do you think they let RR 1 vote from the Orr views?
-
RedRider1I remember when Orrville got some pretty high early season rankings on name recognition alone. I guess it's Triway now.
Oh well....you know what the AP poll means.....unless we're at the top, then it's a big deal.
I wish I got a vote....how cool would that be? -
RedRider1Dont want to say this guy knows more than the AP, but his polls seem more logical....of course he has Orrville in the top 10.
www.ohshoops.com
just scroll to find the latest D3 poll.
Sounds like Cleve. Cent. Cath gave St. Ignatius all they wanted the other night...and Iggy is real good this year.
Whoever comes out of the Wooster district will have to play the Cleve. district winner in the Reg. semifinals. Probably will be CCC or VASJ. Either one will be no picnic. -
RRRockFlash thanks for that update, like I said before I am always interested in how the whole program is doing, thanks again and Go Riders!
-
RedRider1Up for debate at the blog.....The best 3 pt. shooter in Orrville history.
I don't really define the category....so it can be purest shooter, most accurate, whatever you want....I give some candidates, and leave the discussion open for others.
Check it out...you know the address.

BRFOut of several great candidates, I second this.

Mr. RussellThat is a great list, but Brandon Short never hit an outside shot in high school lol, although he was an understanding player, he became a much better shooter after school.
