Yo 609, could your team beat the Andy White MU team?

LOL, I would love them to feel the DI wrath. They deserve it. Dont worry, it will soon be like it used to be when you were in school and their #1 guy wouldnt make our JV team.
Lol what?! Last time I checked Tipp's #2 Sam Wharton is way ahead of Milton's number 1! All-Ohioan as FROSH!!! You could even see Tipp be able to compete with Milton next year in cross because all the frosh will be more mature. If Ricky Andrews is healthy, WATCH OUT! If he isn't, then no, they won't compete.

Not until regionals when they choked every year. You should see some of the times those teams ran compared to their times at the end of year. They flat out choked (but hey it could of also been all that Schul training).
Zing! Kerpow! Maybe some day your coaching will produce something close to Andy White.....maybe. (haha)

I ran a 2:32 mile for CCRunner, but I wasn't eligible because I was already excelling in 15 other sports.

ccrunner609 wrote: Give you havent been around long enough. Until Larson (who ran for me) got to Tipp they spent 20+ years being not really good. The whole line about not making the JV was the fact that a few years before you came along we put 14 runners infront of their #1 at Sidney. Larson developed you and a few others and got it rolling. Now Tipp is the largest DII in the state and that doesnt hurt.
I think I understand the circular thinking. You coached Larson who developed the Tipp program, so really, it is you who should be given the credit, lol. Thats pretty funny you guys put 14 head of their #1. Thats just embarassing.

Anyways, as for Tipp being the biggest D2 school, THEY CAN'T HELP THAT. They have the number cutoffs and Tipp fell below that. You may get your wish by the next count.

I would also watch Luke Zerkle as Tipp's potential #2 1600 runner, he quit basketball and has been training in the winter for the first time. Last year he ran a 4:47 at a quad meet as a JV runner for Tipp, and I think he could possibly go as low as 4:38-4:40 and take advantage of a weak field to qualify for Regionals.

As I see it, the top two should be Feitshans and Bench, but then its anyone's race for three and four. Will anyone switch from a loaded 3200 to improve their chance to qualify?

    First off, great avatar 911.

There are so many runners that could do well at both 1600 and 3200. It will be interesting to see what Fink, Prakel, Wharton, Feitshans, and Townsend decide to run. Probably too early to make predictions because we don't know who will run which event.

Tipp's 4x800 could be close to last year's team in ability. They ran faster than the 4x800 from last year at Cedarville meet.

Looks like Dunbar is D2. They competed in D2/D3 Indoor State Meet. Which district would they go to?

Distance wise, Tippecanoe finished 8th in 4x800 at Indoor State meet with an 8:31. They had Tyler Feitshans, Kevin Fink, Cody Conley, and Luke Zerkle run. Feitshans outkicked Dunbar's anchor leg, but Dunbar still finished a respectable 9th. Both teams should be strong contenders at Regionals.
  • givetallugot
I know this a bit off topic with Mica Hatcher being in D1, but he didn't run any of the distance relays at the Tippecanoe Relays. Is he not planning on running distance? Did not run 4x1600, DMR, or 4x800.
  • givetallugot
Very windy at the Tippecanoe Invite.

Nicole Klimkowski ran well in the 1600. 5:37 in windy conditions. Not exactly sure what was wrong with Katie Landwehr who ran 5:59. You never can tell with girls. It seems like Katie performs poorly at the beginning of every season, but runs great at the end.

On the guys side, Tipp 4x800 ran well placing 2nd. Feitshans and Fink ran the 1600, placing 4th and 6th in a competitive field after running 4x8. Cody Conley was top D2 finisher in 800.

The weather cleared up during the 3200 and Sam Wharton ran extremely well in his first invitational, finishing in 10:19 for 2nd place. Jon McMaken finished in 10:30. McMaken went sub 10 last year and I think Wharton will be close to 9:50 this year.

Freshman Ricky Andrews did not compete, partly due to being on a very strong team. We will have to wait to see what he can do this year.
  • givetallugot
Yeah, did they step on the line or something? They got DQ'd. Would have finished 3rd.
  • givetallugot
Yeah, Fink's 6:45 effort wasn't as good as Bruns' school record of 6:37 from the previous year. I'm sure if he knew what splits he had to run that he could have come closer. Both Fink and Conley came back and ran 4x800 and helped team win.

Did fink use his sideways couch roll to get over the hurdles? That's the only method I've seen him use, where he puts his hands on the steeple and swings his legs up.

It felt really good. I didn't start to get tired until 3 laps left. Sat in 3rd the first 4 laps and led the rest of the way until the last 100 meters. 4:53 1st mile and went through 2nd mile in 9:57.

I was very pleased with the time. It was our first outdoor meet. Next week is All-Ohio, so hopefully I can have a similar performance.

Jason Bruns ran under 16 at the Miami Invite, going 15:52.

ccrunner609: How is parking going to work at the MU meets this year?
  • givetallugot
Didn't run well at All-Ohio. Rainy conditions before and during race. Puddles everywhere. Everyone ran in it, I just didn't perform well. Next weekend will be our last track meet. I'm running the 1500 and 800. I'm still content with my 15:25 from last week because I've only been running 30-35 miles a week this winter and spring. Looking forward to upping the mileage and getting ready for cross.

Butler Invite tomorrow at Tipp will be VERY competitive. Where is MU running?
  • said_aouita
Yo 609- Missed yer call a couple weeks ago. Assuming it was to see about the track meet that weekend.
I've only went to one track meet so far this year. Ya know I won't miss districts. Although I hate the dump I may go to regionals to watch Mcmac in the 3200m....
  • givetallugot
609- great showing by both your 4x8 teams at Miami County. I was very impressed with the 8:29. I see them possibly scoring at Regionals.

Juli Accurso had a great double yesterday. Landwehr and Klimkowski did as well, but I was hoping they would be able to challenge Accuro in the 1600, but didn't.

I wasn't there, so you'll have to tell me if I'm right...

Looked like Feitshans cruised to the win in the 1600 with Zerkle running a 4:42 for a PR. I think Zerkle can make it to Regionals. He had a dissapointing cross season and wants to make it up this track season.

Sam Wharton followed right behind Kevin Fink in the 3200, both going a solid 9:53. That might be the top freshman time in the state for 3200. I think Fink could have gone low 9:40 yesterday if he had someone pushing him the whole time.

    Tipp's 4x8 ran 8:20 without Zerkle. I think their team as a whole could win Regionals. 2nd in 08, 3rd in 09... 1st in 10?
  • givetallugot
Can't wait to see the frosh showdown between Prakel, Wharton, and Townsend. What will they all decide to run? Will they be able to beat Fink (3200) or Feitshans (1600). I think they can compete with them, but I don't think either Fink or Fietshans have been pushed to their max yet. Hopefully we can see some fresh open times from them in the regular season.

The 3200 could be STACKED!!! Here is everyone's PR. There is no doubt about it...you will have to break 10 to HAVE A SHOT at qualifying.

    Kevin Fink (Tipp) - 9:53
    Sam Wharton (Tipp) - 9:53
    Jon McMaken (Graham) - 9:58
    Sam Prakel (Versailles) - 10:01
Zach Hawke (Graham) - 10:07 - can he break the 3 year curse of finishing 5th at districts?
    Todd Hewitt (Eaton) - 10:11
Brandon Townsend (Kenton Ridge) - 10:21
    Josh Richardson (Shawnee) - 10:24
Sam Bench (Brookeville) - 10:29 (District Champ for XC)
    Logan Jackson (Milton-Union) - 10:30
  • givetallugot
Hey Said...Robert Pumphrey 4:31?!?! Where did that come from? That time is 2nd best in the conference/district. McMaken ran well too with a 10:08. What is up with Hawke? 4:42 is respectable, but has this kid lost all his drive?

Shout out to Tyler Feitshans running 4:25!!! It's about time he ran a great mile after running 4:36 as a freshman. He has also been tearing it up as the anchor leg in the 4x8. Luke Zerkle ran another PR as well, 4:39. Great improvement from cross.

Sam Wharton goes 9:45 and Kevin Fink go 9:48. Both will be contenders for the Regional title and could go 1-2. Although I'm biased, I think Tipp can win Regionals with Alex Trotter and Dylan Bourelle in the sprints to supplement the distance runners.
  • givetallugot
    4:15 for D1?
  • said_aouita
Robbie ran really well. He looked good at Graham but I'll admit that PR drop was a bit of a surprise. I'd like to see him get under 4:30. I still think Mcmac will be under 10 by districts. Zach has not found his leg turnover yet for the mile. I don't know if he will beat Robbie but he will be closer.
  • givetallugot
Who will be at CBC in Tipp? I'm excited to be going. First year at BG done.
  • givetallugot
Mica Hatcher was the CBC Performer of the Meet last year. He won 3 events (HJ, 1600, 800) and his 4x8 placed 4th, giving him 35 points, or 31.25 if he gets 1/4 of relay points. He is entered in the 4x8, 1600, 800, and high jump again this year. How many points will he score? Will he be the top performer of the meet again? I haven't seen any performances from him this year.

    Here is my prediction.

    4x8- 4th (5 points)
    1600- 2nd (8 points)
    800- 3rd (6 points)
    HJ- 1st (10 points)

29 points, 25.25 if he gets 1/4 of relay points

That is a really disturbing statement although probably true.
Anyone have his times so far this year?
  • givetallugot
I'm a bit confused. How is that a disturbing statement? I talked to Mica today. Running has not been a priority for him. He said he got injured in cross and said he is focused on college. I think he is going to Northwestern (Ohio).

He ran 4x8 today and it just wasn't the same Mica Hatcher I'm accustomed to seeing. He has a lot of natural ability. He'll score points Friday, but I can't see him winning any of the running events.
