Southwest District @ West Milton

    Thoughts or predictions for D2?

Girls 4x800- Milton won convincingly last year, but graduated Angela Klimklowski. I still look for them to win with Indian Lake getting 2nd. IL returns everyone from last year.

Boys 4x800- Tipp lost Salyer and Bruns. They still have Conley and Feitshans from last year's 4x800 and will add Kevin Fink. Their 4th runner could be a freshman or Luke Zerkle who ran 54 in the 400 and 2:08 in the 800 last year. I look for them to repeat for the third year in a row and for Northeastern to get 2nd. Winning time 8:15.

Girls 1600- Cassie Schieltz from West Milton is the fastest returning runner. If Nicole Klimklowski runs I expect her to win. Rachel Watt from Indian Lake will definitely be in the mix.

Boys 1600- Kevin Fink is the fastest returning runner. He will most likely concentrate on the 3200 this year and Tyler Feitshans will likely concentrate on the 1600. I look for Feitshans to win and after that its up in the air. It may only take sub 4:40 to qualify. Freshmen Sam Wharton and Ricky Andrews from Tipp ran 4:51 and 4:52 last year as 8th graders. One of them will definitely bein the mix and Brandon Townsend from Kenton Ridge too if he decides to run.

Girls 800- Kristie Kiracofe from Eaton, Katie Finney from Urbana, and Rachel Watt are the top 3 returners and all qaulified last year. They were all within a second of each other. Should be very tight race. If Watt runs fresh she should win.

Boys 800- Michael Lanning from Northeastern is fasting returning runner with a 2:01. Tipp's Cody Conley went 2:01 as well. It will be a good race between those two. Look for Robbie Pumphrey of Graham to finish 3rd.

Girls 3200- Nicole Klimklowski won convincingly last yearand was 15 seconds off the record. She has a legitimate shot at breaking it this year if she is healthy. Mallory Kitts from Northwestern is the 2nd fastest returning runner and who knows what will happen after that.

Boys 3200- Feitshans is the fastest returning runner, but Fink will likely be running it this year. Fink never got an opportunity to run competitively at an invite last year in the 3200. His best time was a 10:06 at County. I still look for him to win with Jon McMaken from Graham a close 2nd. I don't think Zach Hawke from Graham will finish 5th for a fourth year in a row. He should get the monkey off his back this year. If Brandon Townsend from Kenton Ridge decides to run I think he'll claim the 4th spot. I imagine Sam Wharton from Tipp will want to do the 1600. I also do not believe he will finish 5th again, because he may not be running.

Zach's sport was in the fall with his close friends. After they accomplished what they've been wanting for a couple years, the rumor began that he may not be running track.
Unfortunately Jon loses a training partner, but he is motivated. Being the (obvious) alpha of the team will lead to some fast times for Jon.

Thats unfortuante to hear Hawke will not be running track. You either love to run or you don't. He obviously had a talent for it, but it seems like he never really loved to run. Could be a case of senioritis. We saw Ben Jones not run track his senior year and we also saw a rusty Dustin Hines run last year. Will Mica Hatcher run??? I know he isn't in this district, but he is in the CBC.

If this was pay pay huddle I'd probably get in trouble for spreading rumors. We really won't know for sure if he's running for another couple months. I don't know how much it's senioritis, he's always had other interests then (just) running.

Do you know if he's training?

    No.

the rumor is that hawke won't run, also pumphrey won't run is another rumor, and the other senior at graham who ran xc isn't running from what i've heard... only time will tell... i don't personally see it happening, but we shall see... i heard versailles was gonna be d2 this year so i'll say look at the 3200 potentially!

    prakel
    fink
    feitshauns
    mcmaken
    Hewitt
    Bench
    Leis

if i'm not mistaken those are all state qualifiers in xc... 7 guys of this caliber could be some kind of race... for 2nd i think... prakel should run away with it, and even if he isn't in the race all of these guys should be considered, and if hawke runs thats 7. gonna be stacked again this year... AS USUAL!

Glad to see ya again GORUN! Oh wow, If Versailles is D2 again, the 3200m will be loaded.

this will be one of those years where i think 8 guys could go sub 10 at milton in the 3200... man its gonna be crazy!

Man, COULD happen in PERFECT conditions......but if I was betting, I'd say no.

    My 3200 predicitons now

    Prakel 9:40
    Fink 9:45
    McMaken 9:50
    Wharton 9:55
    Hewitt 10:00
    Townsend 10:05
    Bench 10:15
    Leis 10:20
    Brubaker 10:20
    Jackson 10:25

From what I have heard, Feitshans wants to run 1600, meaning Fink will likely do 3200. Not sure what Wharton will do either.

i think that townsend if he doesn't run with 2 hands wrapped around his throat will run 9:40's...

prakel- 9:40 at the district, could run 9:20's at state i think
Fink- 9:30's if he runs the way he did at CBC's in xc...
Townsend- 9:40's maybe 9:30's but only time will tell with him...
McMaken (my boy gonna hopefully get it together and go REALLY fast!) 9:50's should be under 9:50 i hope!
    Hewitt 9:50's maybe 9:40's
    Wharton 9:50's maybe 9:40's
Bench( saw his speed in xc i think he would do better to run the 8/16) but he would be in this race if he runs it... 9:50's
    Leis 9:50's i would think

I agree with ya GO...I'm also thinking of years past and the heat and humidity. Those times as possible, as long as the weather is in favor of the distance runners.
  • GORUN
i look for this to be over pretty early... prakel will get out fairly quick and a few may try to go with him, which will be a HUGE mistake, or HUGE payoff... with townsend dr. jekell or Mr. Hyde could show up... i would really like to see him do as well as he did at the district xc meet where he beat fink and everyone else in that race... man this race is going to be pretty loaded this year... even more so than the last 3 or 4 years where its been really loaded... just to score you may have to run under 10:10... thats really quick for a district... this may be as tough or more tough comp. than the regional in the 3200... MAYBE... you add Corcoran from clinton massie and maybe even kasperski of valley view... going to be intense!

Gorun, I'll say it now (and this has nothing to do with what happened on huddle), Townsend will not break 9:55. I can't see a 4:55 runner one year doing that almost back to back the next. The 3200 is a physically demanding race and takes some time getting used to for freshmen. I don't think you'll see a ton of sub 10 performances at districts. It just doesn't happen. Look at the past 5 years. I expect a slow/tactical pace early on or somebody going out ridiculously fast and fading late. Good example of that is Jack Deford in 1600 in 2008. Went out 60 seconds first 400 and 2:10 first 800. Finished 8th in 4:45 or so.
  • givetallugot
He had a good showing his senior track season. I think he finished 2nd at Districts and 6th at Regionals.

    Deford vs. XCPhenom.....who wins?

16 down jack wins... 3200 up xcphenom
  • GORUN
give not to go there, but hawke went 5:03 i think as an 8th grader then went 10:11 as a fresh... we'll see you could be right, but i think townsend will surprise a few people in track

Good call on Jack vs. XC (hee-hee).

I lean towards what give is saying, as for a 4:55 miler coming back a year later and running close to a 10-flat. It takes the, "race of a life time" type of effort.
IMO- That race you mention ZH's Freshman year was one of his best ever.
  • GORUN
that was either the best race i've ever seen or the second best race... but b/c i know him i'd say that was the best race i've ever seen a person run...
  • givetallugot
I never clarified this, but Jack's senior year he finished 2nd at districts and 6th at regionals in the 800. I remember watching that 1600 his junior year though. I was in the stands and was laughing my butt off. 60 seconds first lap 2:10 800. It was like the whole field knew it. They weren't worried at all. Jack his a solid wall the third lap and the pack gradually caught up to him. Once he was passed he was completely done. So funny. Good talent though.

Hawke's 10:11 freshman season was a spectacular performance, but that still is well off a 10 flat. I would say Hawke was just as good as Townsend as an entering freshman. Hawke killed Feitshans in XC 8th grade year at CBC. He just hasn't improved. I ran a 10:15 freshman year at districts, similar to Hawke. But like Hawke, that was by far my best race of the year. My second fastest time that year was a 10:30. I can see him getting close to 10 flat, maybe breaking it, but not 9:55.

Will districts still be at Milton with all the construction?
