heard it was terrible! Where did you see the video?
  • Old Rider
Phone video. Wasn't the best quality but enough to show how bad the call was. Player literally shot the ball with back to the basket and flipped the ball over the shoulder. Bail out call.

    Oh well. Good luck Waynedale!

That is exactly what the radio said when they called the foul....

5 of those games were lost because the OCC is tooo big and toooo far away for Orrville to compete. :RpS_lol:HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

If the OCC was truuuly the problem and the solution was a new league then you would think the Red Riders would have been better than 2-6 in non-conference play.

I have said this since day one...the conference was not and never has been the problem...Proof is in the last game of the girls basketball season and boys season...

Lose to Chipps and Waynedale. Not in the OCC and last I checked were in the Wayne County League. Our AD and staff can get us into whatever league you want if you are not good enough it does not matter.

Fairly the Girls have been good and Chippewa is legit, but the conference is not going to fix everything and maybe nothing at all.

I agree, we're not as good as the past. Why drive to Clearfork, Lex, Mansfield and get beat. The PAC has closer schools, might as well save the gas. Will we beat up on the PAC, I doubt. Will we win more games, a few more. We'll win in boys sports when the talent level gets better. Speaking for myself, I'm glad I don't have to drive to those places.

I can respect that view. If we are going to lose we might as well not drive as far.

Having 4 boys that will soon be playing middle school sports then on to high school...I am VERY glad we are no longer in the OCC.

And as far as winning more games in the new league...we will and I think even more importantly is the fact that our middle school will now be more competitive. We have lost kids who play in middle school and then choose not to in high school because they never experienced success. Ask the coaches...they say the same thing.

And someone mentioned that we should have been better than 2-6 in non conference play in boys basketball??? Did you go to any games??? Did you honestly see this group play?? There was ONE good player on the team...Luke! Conway was good...at times, but other times not as good. Show me one other basketball player on that varsity team that would have made that team better than 2-6 in non-conference??? There isn't ONE! Thats like saying the football team should have went 6-4 last year. The horses are NOT there!

I will repeat it again...athletes are not there! So why stay in the OCC and get pounded when you have the opportunity to better your chances and give the KIDS a better opportunity for success?? Only makes sense to me. Its a better opportunity for the KIDS!

Winning more, maybe. Does THAT make you better? No.

I never said they should have won more games. What was said is if you cannot win in the non-conference part of your schedule then it should be obvious that the OCC was not the problem. Plus, if kids are quitting because they do not win, those kids will never help you because they are competitors. And if the coaches use that as their excuse for not winning then they suck as coaches and you need new ones. Everyone knows the athletes are not there, but now the attitude is not get better it is better weaker competition. Not a quality many like to instill in their kids. Just saying.

For the record I am not an Orrville guy but did see a few of the Orrville games this year and I thought they did have some players. An I am an OCC parent of kids who have lost MANY games but find the struggles of competition to be rewarding in many ways. Win or Lose.

I beg to differ...Winning breeds Winning! The culture at Orrville (mostly football) needs to change. Winning can and will help bring that culture back to what Orrville is used to seeing and producing!

I am all for the "struggles of competition" and the rewards that it brings and the rewards it doesn't. But an ass whooping night in and night out by a school 3x your size isn't improving or building any kids confidence or making them "a better person". People can twist it anyway they want and I respect your opinion as an outsider, but I played here, live here, and now have boys that will be Red Riders. I am glad we have moved to the PAC...it is a better fit for Orrville as a school, for the students, and our community.

Things are much different now for sure. OldRider if you got your teeth kicked in one night what would you have done? I know what the answer is but that does not happen anymore. There is merit to winning breads winning...but right now the work these kids are putting in is a joke. The coaches can't push them or they quit. Kids are soft and are babied to much! We will see what happens in the PAC I am not convinced much will change.

We can differ in opinion but the reality is playing weaker opponents does not make you better. Beating a lesser team will only make you feel good. Did beating West Holmes by 20 make you better. Or did playing Madison to a 1 point loss and Mansfield by 3 do more for you? I would argue with the right teaching you can learn from a loss. With your thinking you should be scheduling patsies for non-conference to get feel good wins so you can get those soft players out on your teams. I would consider an Ars whooping to be a 15+ point loss. that happened 5 times in 22 games. That is not night in and night out. Be glad for the PAC and I respect your opinion but I do not have to live in Orrville to know school sports that my kids have already played thru and into college.

The PAC may be a weaker conference (or weaker opponents) as you put it....but its where we belong now! This isn't Orrville of the late 80's - 90's, nor is the community the same. I am NOT saying that weaker opponents make anyone better...I am saying that we need to be playing in the PAC because that is equal in terms of level of competition.

We will see about that. My feeling is if these kids don't have the will to work and win you can put them in the toilet bowl conference and it won't matter. Time will tell but would be nice to see some kids doing all the extra things to make themselves successful.

And what if it's not? What's next? Do you look into scheduling girls teams for your boys. When does it stop and you start expecting the kids/coaches to step up?

I think there are a few girls at our high school that could help our football team. Just saying...

I agree with this 100%. The football and boys basketball programs have been down the last several years. I don't think anybody will dispute that. The move to a smaller, inferior conference puts everyone on a more level playing field. If the programs continue to struggle, it's time for new leaders to take over the head coaching positions. Not that there ever should've been to begin with, but there are no more excuses.

Could say for the talent level the girls have out there that some of those coaches have underachieved also. We got our doors blown off against Chippewa a week ago and the coaching was horrible. If you are going to go hardcore on some sports you better do it for all of them.

You are right. Virtually the same kids for both teams played a nail biter last year in the district finals. Chippewa clearly got better at a faster rate than Orrville did during the next 12 months.

Coaching changes and I know the coaches would agree!
