You don't "need" to kill his dog. You "want" to kill his dog. Big difference.
  • Steel Valley Football
It would be justified, no jail.

Incorrect. I would only kill it if latched on to a person or another dog and wouldn't let go.
  • dlazz
The odds of that scenario panning out are low. Also, not all pitbulls are mean.

Incorrect. Instead of trying to be "Joe Hero", call the cops the next time he has the dog off it's leash or animal control. There ARE usually leash laws. No need to shoot the dog when it's the owner who's the idiot and should be shot if he allows the dog to run loose and it isn't good around kids.

You can save yourself a shitload of drama by calling the authorities but do what you want. I'll LOL when I hear you got thrown in jail for carrying a weapon in the park around those little kids.

Agreed but the guy should keep the dog on a leash.

Are there leash laws there? If so report it to whoever relevant if you see it again. If not STFU unless the dog is maiming someone.

The odds of it latching on to someone or something are irrelevant. I'm only concerned about an incident occurring.

The concept is similar to certain types of insurance; health insurance, for example. Forgoing health insurance because of the low odds of getting critically sick is foolish.

    .
Then call the proper authorities the next time you see him bring it to the park. Perhaps some of the park visitors are concerned about a gun wielding vigilante showing up at the park too?

    Did you read the OP?

I'm asking for help on exactly what you just said, how to kill it when it starts to maim a child or another pet; my pet, in particular.

I think he DID and you still didn't answer our question about the local leash laws.

I apologize for not posting it twice, but you missed post #4 where I implied that I certainly don't want to use a gun for fear of harming someone or something other than the dog.

Have fun in court. Ohio law states you can only kill a dog to protect people or livestock. Cats and dogs are neither.

The solution is simple. You have a cell phone? Next time you go to the park and see the guy, call the authorities and express your concern about the guy with the pit bull, letting it run loose, and your fear of it attacking.

If he brings the dog to the park again, keep calling until he gets the hint if you fear for the kids and your pets safety. Until the dog has done something it's innocent until proven guilty. If you think it could be guilty and don't want it to get to that point, call the authorities and prevent it.

You're not going to be some kind of hero if you tote a gun to the park and shoot it. And if you think you won't go to jail for pulling some shit like that, try it as an "experiment" and see where it gets you. Better to report it and let the proper authorities handle it.

Hopefully the dog does some bath salts before going to the park next time and just bites your face off.

I'm not concerned with reporting leash-law violations. A woman there called the police and reported it, but as of the time we left it was still loose and no police had arrived.

(1/31/07 - KTRK/MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX) (KTRK) -- A Conroe man wasn't about to let a neighbor's pit bull attack him. He courageously fought back and now that dog is dead.
Von Pardue bears the scars of a frightening attack. His hands and wrists are heavily bandaged, the result of the early morning attack. It all started when Pardue went for his morning walk. He encountered the dog along the street.
With the dog attacking him, what happened next is amazing. Pardue was able to drag the dog all the way down the street and to his house."
"I thought he was going to take that finger off," said Pardue. "I was going to try and grab him by his jaws, but his jaws were so big and powerful, I couldn't pull my hand out of his mouth. So the only thing I could do was hit him in the ribs as hard as possible and it popped his mouth open. Then I pulled my hand out and got him by the collar."
Pardue says even though he had the dog by the collar, it was spinning around, trying to bite him again. With no way to call for help, Pardue dragged the dog to his back door.
"I just had him like this and had him by the collar and head and you know, flipped him around here and held him and banged on the door," said Pardue.
Pardue's wife called 911. By the time authorities arrived, the dog was dead. Pardue had choked the dog. Police say the dog's owner thought the animal was in the back yard.
"The owner said they didn't realize the dog was out when they woke up this morning," said Sgt. Mike Tindall with the Conroe Police Department. "They found the dog was missing. They didn't know anything about the attack at that point
In a strange twist, police say there is the possibility the owners could face charges. However, I learned that same dog was picked up by authorities last month after it was found running loose in the neighborhood. We have some numbers on dog attacks in Harris County and pit bulls are at the top. In 2006, there were 244 pit bull attacks. Labradors were involved in 164 attacks, followed by German shepherds, Chihuahuas and chows with 55 attacks. Harris County tells us it has seen an increase in the number of pit bulls it's taken in.

What thread are you reading? There is no gun involved. You have no argument.

Yeah, he clearly didn't read the original post either. His advice is irrelevant. Leash laws aren't going to help if the jaws are attached to a kid.

Cripes people, read the fucking post.

Point taken. 4Ringz "Glock" comment threw me off.

Guess if you're going to try to take care of it you'll need to (and I can't believe I'm saying this) use Isadore's advice and "bare hand" it.

The gun was assumed in that it's likely the only way you're going to take down a pit before it does significant damage IF it's owner trained it as an attack dog. If he didn't you probably have nothing to worry about in the first place.
