I got my Census today.

it doesnt cost the govt any more money if they ask 1 question or 10 questions. and they wouldnt have to waste money going door to door if people(like you) answered the questions.
So, it's free for the government to send out notices that the census is going to be mailed? It's free for the government to print all the census, send them out through the mail? The U.S government is spending 14 Billion dollars solely on workers to go door to door? Wow, I didn't know that.

yeah its the Morales one. i didnt dive into it either, but when referencing whether the census violated the 4th amendment, thats the one it points to. i believe there were a few others around the turn of the last century too(1900). plus the one in 1970 involving how the punishment can be dealt out.

plus, 2 of your 3 examples dont apply. this isnt germany and privacy laws for the census were not established during WWII. and your third example, you even say they "wanted" to use the census. i am assuming something stopped them?

I think they did place a limit on the types of questions asked though. Their reasoning was beyond absurd though. They said since it has always been done it can't be a violation of the 4th Amendment. I guess slavery was alright then also since it had always been done.

I find it funny you think some measly privacy laws will stop the government from obtaining census data if they want it.

I got his point. I just don't care. I'll remember next time my friendly government worker comes knocking on my door. I'll be sure to answer any and all questions. Yes sir.

I'm sure the Japanese Americans would agree with that.
the laws protecting the privacy of the census were not in place when that happend.
And you think privacy laws will stop the government from using this information however they want? Ha.
    haha yeah, i do.
Where were the privacy laws here? Or do Arab Americans not deserve the same privacy? Government and privacy have nothing to do with each other. The fact is any information given to the government can be used against you.
On July 23, 2004, EPIC obtained documents revealing that the Census Bureau provided the Department of Homeland Security statistical data on people who identified themselves on the 2000 census as being of Arab ancestry. The special tabulations were prepared specifically for the law enforcement agency. There is no indication that the Department of Homeland Security requested similar information about any other ethnic groups. The tabulations apparently include information about United States citizens, as well as individuals of Arab descent whose families have lived in the United States for generations.

Funny thing is that the party that you seem to support so much because of their anti "big government" stance was the one in power when that example that you just whipped out happened.

And it probably was statistically relevant to what they were doing. If the Yakuza started bombing places it might be useful to know where there are high concentrations of Japanese-Americans. Because if I were a Yakuza member trying to blend in I wouldn't hang out in some redneck town. Similar thinking probably went into action with the Arab stat. They weren't using it to identify every Arab as a terrorist but to be better aware of where potential terrorists may hide out.

We are already screwed if the intelligence agencies aren't already aware of where high profile gangs like the Yakuza operate within this country.

I was just using that as an example. Maybe a poor one.

I'll follow the Constitution always, because I believe in it. I'll listen to the government when they follow the Constitution.

I do understand the point you were trying to make though.

hmmmm...the letter asked who lived here...what were their ages...what were their names...is it really that complicated? Just fill the dam thing out and quit stressin'. Evrybuddy is lookin' for a conspiracy.

Get real. Census workers are making 15-20 dollars an hour. You think that's a wise use of government resources?
Census workers do not make $15 dollars an hour.

    Not even close.

Except for the race information, most of the same information can be obtained from your tax return.

It's actually like $18/hr. My uncle is about to retire, but he decided to work for the census first to make some fast, easy money.
  • I Wear Pants
Um, actually depending on the area they make different wages.

    Columbiana county pays $12.50hr.
  • Cleveland Buck
Well, Cuyahoga County pays a lot more than that.

The census asks for each person's name, race, and sex. It's done every 10 years and is in the original Constitution to do so. It is done to accurately depict population for representation purposes. The bullshit on the net about census workers asking for personal data, income etcetera, is nonsense.

Do what the Constitution asks for...and be done with it.

You do realize that until this time, because a lot of people made a fuss, the census had a lot more questions that were a lot more invasive? How much you make, what you pay in rent, utilities, etc.
And I applaud the decision to be less invasive. Look, I'm not a pro big government guy myself. And I think the race quesstion is uncalled for. But the constitution calls for an accurate headcount for legislative purposes. Is there some waste of money? Yup. Is it worth 14 billion? At this point, who really gives a shit? We are going to go bankrupt someday anyhow.

We actually agree on something here. The cries about the constitution just calling for a head count are just plain not true, it calls for enumeration with the parameters set by congress.

Enumerate means to count and list. What they are counting and listing is determined by congress.

The context in the constitution for enumeration is in regards to determining state representation in congress and the electoral college.

I am curios to know what level of counting and listing by congress would you see as intrusive?

For instance: Do you use tobacco products? How many drinks do you have a day? What is your height and weight? Do you engage in promiscuous sexual activity? Do you own firearms? What is the make and model of your vehicle?

Any of these questions and more could be asked of the federal government to determine the allocation of their funds.

But those type of questions are not being asked. The census is for accurate headcounting purposes. The constitution wants an accurate headcount of people...not their vices or lifestyle.

Buck...is it possible to source that? I seriously doubt Cuyahoga County workers make that. It's not like the COL is any higher there versus other parts of the state.

Being reimbursed 50 cents per mile doesn't count as wages. I could see 18 bucks an hour in New York...but not Cleveland Ohio.

Most, but not all. They are looking for locations of people within certain boundaries. Addresses have been changed in a lot of areas.

My guess...in the year 2020, the process will be a lot simpler.

    10.50/hr in Ashland, KY
    16/hr in Cincinnati
    15/hr in Columbus
    15.25/hr in Cleveland

Way too much money for a temporary job knocking on doors.
