I got my Census today.

From the Census: Many residents who do not complete and return a 2010 Census form will receive a replacement form. If no form is mailed back, residents can expect a personal visit from a census taker some time after March 2010. The census taker will ask you the questions on the form, record your answers and then submit the form for your household.

To paraphrase, if you're an ass about it, they will come and be an ass about it right back at you :)

If you don't fill it out you have no right to complain about it costing so much because much of the cost is having to pay people to physically go to your house and fill it out.

    Pretty simple to complete, painless..........

Surprisingly generic in content. My name and address and a few other assorted things and my wife's name and the same stuff for her. It took me less than a couple of minutes and I don't think it will be the start of a major investigation of my, or my family's private lives and activities.

That's just what they want you to think!!! :p

I threw it away today. Considering I don't want to deal with door-to-door people, I'll fill out the next one.
  • Cleveland Buck
They can stand at my door in the middle of the ghetto and knock as long as they want. Some crackhead will rob them on their way back to their car.

Finally came, I've been waiting by mailbox since the Super Bowl... Sure glad they spent money on that ad otherwise I would have never thought to open my mail; all of the other TV, Radio, and internet adverstising would have never affected me.... $10 says some higher ups in charge of the Census were at the Super Bowl as guests of an Ad Exec...

Mine shall be burned. It's my small revolt.

And I will put up a no trespassing sign on my yard so if Census workers show up at my door they will be getting the cops called on them.

I will gladly fill mine out seeing as how the census is how congressional apportionment is decided.

Not answering the questions is a $100 fine. giving false information is a $500 fine.

Does that really matter at this point?

No one has been fined since about the late 60's.

No matter what you think it always will matter.
Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or Person holding an Office of Trust or Profit under the United States, shall be appointed an Elector.

Fine with me as requiring me to answer a census is a violation of my 4th Amendment rights.

Constitutionally, only a headcount is required to fulfill the census requirements. The Census has never been mandatory until this year.

The court challenges will be coming.

This is not a representative Republic. That went out a long time ago. That is the point I was making. Whether you get three who don't represent you or two it will be the same.

The standards are quite rigid on how it is run and how the data is used, regardless of who is in power.
I find the amount of information the government already has about us alarming, I see no need to voluntarily give them more. Call me crazy, but I wouldn't trust our government with my grocery list, let alone private information about it's citizens.

I also didn't volunteer much information other than the basics. How many people in my household, whether I rent or own and what race. That's it. But I didn't do it becuase I don't want the gov't to have my info. (they most assuredly do since I was in the military and their slave for 6 years), I did it to be as much of a pain in the ass to them as I can be.

Nothing in that document means a fucking thing anymore. They might as well pull it out of the case and set fire to it.

You do realize that if you don't answer all the questions the Census workers will still come to your door and call you to get all the questions they want.

There is no long form anymore and the 10 question form is one of the least invasive since the 1900 census.

Yes, but the jokes on them because I will be moving before then with no forwarding address. And I assume since it was addressed to resident and not specifically to me, they don't know who the hell I am. So I am not too worried.

Don't know haven't seen it, but if the Census workers want you to answer all the questions they will show up at your door.

Now whether or not that actually happens who knows.

No law you have to answer the door.

I'm assuming the census workers will be about as hard working as any other temporary government employee. One knock and walk away.
